    Sorry about the weird timing on this one. It was the victim of an unfortunate series of delays, and by now everyone's already done these kinds of videos and even more footage and screenshots have been uncovered. I hope you still enjoy listening to me obsessively comb through the footage though.
    And for the record, yes, I've seen the clip where the explorer Toad has a symbol in battle, and no, I don't believe this means he's a "partner" as we've come to know them. Giving some sort of ability in battle is not the same thing in my eyes. But I hope I'm wrong.

    Theory on the bag thing
    What if it’s filled with paper used to patch up the broken areas? Like after every battle, you get paper scraps, and as you get more your bag fills, and you can only fix so many spots before you need to kill more goombas to use their remains to fix a hole in the ground.

As is we've seen no proof of there being consumables or not... and we have seen no FP or any limiting factors for your attacks. If "random fights" are mandatory then this change makes perfect sense. It is basically those levels everyone hates in Mario Maker where you have to kill all 100 Goombas.

      Dragoonsoul7878 To be fair, battles in Paper Mario games have never been random before. There’s always been a set group of enemies in a set spot for every encounter, and you have to interact with an over world enemy to start the battle. Of course, it’s iffy whether the enemies respawn infinitely or if they die forever, but I don’t see why they’d change that out for random encounters.

    • @doctortoast4361
      @doctortoast4361 Před 4 lety +11

      Curses tended to be a lot more varied, and give more control to the player.
      While yes, you are right that there was certain markers on the floor, it only applies to two curses. The sailboat and the paper airplane. However, you actually needed to control the paper airplane and the boat. They probably had a lot more kinetic movement attached to them compared to the one ability shown on screen.
      And the other two was moving sideways and rolling up into a cylinder. Those you can initiate at any time with specific button combinations.
      But I’m sure with the way they are presented, they aren’t nearly as intractable as how the curses in TTYD. Of course, this is just supposedly “one” ability that is shown.
      Will there be more than just this one ability? And will those other abilities have more freedom with its concept and movement than just standing in one place? We don’t know. But there’s a reason why Arlo is coming at this from a “I hope it’s a lot more interesting than just pulling down or up in a specific, static spot”. At least, that’s what I’ve interpreted from this video.

    The bag in the UI could be part of a paint-like mechanic, where the bag is full of confetti and you have to go and patch up those holes in the ground. The paper maché goomba in that one scene isn't eating a hole in the house (in other scenes we see that the holes were there first), it's eating confetti that was covering up the hole. That's why it has confetti and not wood-like-paper on its mouth.
    If this is true, it would mean that spots to cover are quite uncommon compared to Color Splash. I guess that's a good thing, cutting down on the amount of things you have collect so you can just GO.

I don't think that it will have any effect in battles, but I think that you will be able to use the confetti to fill in the holes (Like Paper Mache). I think this might be true because during the scene where the paper mache goomba is eating a hole in a house, it seems to have confetti around its mouth, which to me indicates that the confetti is related to the holes in some way.
    I also think that the bag kind of acts like a confetti gauge, which becomes flatter the less confetti you have.

    I personally am excited for this, and the extendo arm Mario thing looks fun. The symbol below his feet looks to be locations to use it rather than only appearing when using the power, so that'd be handy to know where you can actually use those moves. I found in Colour Splash that half the time I was wandering around going into that pop-out mode just in case there was something to do that I couldn't see.
    The Bag icon looks to be for your inventory and either as you put more in it expands, or it's upgradable like the wallet and pouches in Zelda, the different coloured background of the larger bag makes me think it's the latter.
    That roll of tape or whatever on the wall behind the string/wire boss looks like it's the spot the tape wrapping up the castle is coming from, so we either literally cut it off at the source, or there's a button that makes it wind back up.
    Some shots show a 1-up mushroom over the health counter, so maybe it's like a Golden Bone in Luigi's Mansion or Phoenix Down from Final Fantasy and revives you if you loose all your health.
    And more games need a "Throw Confetti" button.

      @@DeltathRiylaan ...Exactly. That's exactly why Generic Person said they "were going to" drop a lot of info. i.e. Nintendo was planning to, but won't anymore. Here, I'll explain it to you.
      Understanding the tense of phrases is important to understand what people are saying. Pretty much always, "was/were going to" indicates future plans that were canceled. "I was going to eat a cookie, but the jar is empty". "He was going to play a tennis match, but the court is closed". "Nintendo was going to reveal a lot of info, but E3 is canceled".
      Exceptions are when the "going to" is an actual part of the active verb. Like "going on a date" or "going to the store". In these cases "I was going to the store" indicates an event that was actively happening in the past instead of canceled future plans. If you want to turn this into canceled future plans, you need to double down on the "to go" verb, like so: "I was going to go on a date, but my girlfriend broke up with me"

  • @notapro6430
    @notapro6430 Před 4 lety

    Fun fact, the part with Mario in the cornfield or whatever has the bomb following him, which we can see in the Japanese sight in a short trailer section. We can also see the bomb in the part with the blue strand (the 2nd one) and he’s also there in a screenshot of a screen where in the bottom right we see the tip of a ship and PM with the bomb are looking at the magenta strand over the ocean (the 4th strand), so the bomb is with him for half the game. Also, in the beginning the strands tie up the castle and bring it to the top of a mountain, we can see this as well on the Japanese website for PMOK. We can see on this site as well that as Bowser, Olivia, PM, and that shy guy try escaping the red strand hits the clown car causing everyone to go flying except for the shy guy, Olivia and PM fly towards the woods (which is probably where that screenshot of PM in the woods with 50 HP comes from) and Bowser flies in the opposite direction. Supports there being no level system since he gets thrown into the world. There’s also probably not a level system, and those pipes are fast travel points, as we see in Toad Town there’s a path with terrain that matches a screenshot of PM in a grassy mountain area with the red strand, there’s a cable car in toad town too which is probably how PM meets the bomb, and there’s also a dock which is probably how he has access to a boat later. Also the part where you say they don’t like referencing past games has been shut down which is good news for the game, as there’s a screenshot of an origami spike in a room of paper peach pictures, one from each paper Mario game, and the gag of an enemy or npc being obsessed with peach is from the first three Paper Mario games (yes, counting SPM). If I had to take a guess the bag could be some sort of tracking device to let you know if you’re close or on the right track to a strand, as in some screenshots or gameplay parts it goes from normal green, glowing green, to yellow, some kind of hot or cold mechanic maybe. If I had to guess the bomb’s story arc is probably centered around him being a generic bob-omb without a fuse (which makes him chill). Just some guesses here, but it’s possible that the bomb was part of bowser’s army, however he lost his fuse causing him to be unable to explode, making him get kicked out of the army and he now has no purpose, so is exploring to find one and joins Mario’s adventure. Also, abt the Bowser Junior thing, it’s probably because he was dirty before. In another screenshot we see the Magickoopa carrying BJ rolled up on the Magickoopa’s back, however Bj is dirty. We also see Bj dirty in the overworld, so he probably cleaned himself in the pond. If I had to guess, the origami king crashed into the airship as they were on the way to the green strand causing them to be launched into the jungle, and the Magickoopa and PM land on BJ, which is why he’s the only dirty one (just guesses). Also, in another language trailer we can see the sun or black hole in the background, but the sky is a few shades lighter, supporting it being the sun. Could be the doing of the yellow strand, but something seems off about the whole area in general, the toads with no faces from the screenshot, purple desert, and the explorer toad could be looking for some treasure which could be the doing of this, just a lot of weird factors

    1. The ninjis are also origami

    Maybe the bag tells you how much confetti you have left and the flatter it looks the less confetti you have. The river scene had the confetti button so it’s possible you fix holes in the ground or walls with your confetti. This sounds very similar to the paint mechanic where you collect it and use it in the overworks. And those shiny boots may be made of confetti themselves, so perhaps you can craft your attacks or power them up with your confetti like in color splash and it’s paint.
