Eagle SX4 Gets Brakes, Wheels, Tires & BACK ROAD THRASH

- My bucket list 1983 AMC Eagle SX-4 gets a new master cylinder, brakes, wheels and tires. I find and fix an issue with the front driveshaft that I can't believe I hadn't noticed yet, then demonstrate how to solve fitment issues with a Sawzall, grinder, and BFH. With the repair work done, JD and I test the car's grocery-getter capabilities. I finally figure out why this old budget junkyard find runs so poorly and earn a chance to thrash around the back roads and have a TOTAL BLAST with JD! ► Check out the full AMC Eagle SX-4 Playlist: • Scrapyard Eagle-AMC SX4

We need to get this much deserved guy up to 100k subscribers, am I wrong? Hell no I'm not, come on let's help him
I agree. Hot takes right here
BIG FACTS!!!
I’m subscribed under 4 channels…
I agree I have been tagging him in my videos as well and telling people to go to his channel but my reach only goes to 250 lol but you never know maybe some people in Germany will start watching his content as well
I've told everyone I know to subscribe and have also heard other CZcamsrs talk about the channel so I have high hopes that we'll get him there 🙏
"I'm kind of a perfectionist... sometimes" 10 sec later *applies HF ratchet strap in place of transmission mount* I'm rolling AHAHA
Hey! That's a Husky ratchet strap from Home Depot sir
@@PoleBarnGarage big spender. I usually just stea... borrow one.
@@raymondproseus6923 tactically acquire, is the proper term good sir
The ratchet strap was installed... Perfectly...
It's a joy to watch your son working with you. He seems to be genuinely interested in working on cars, and he absolutely loves his dad... that's obvious. Congratulations... you're doing more right than you think you are.
I just want to personally thank you for indirectly helping me fix my car, lol. I picked up a 72 dart with the 225 slant six a couple days ago and it sputtered and coughed real bad while running. I haven’t had the time to dig into it yet but I was watching your video this morning when I went “hmm, I wonder”. I walked outside and took a look under the hood and sure enough, cylinders 2 and 4 were swapped on the distributor. I switched em back and fired it up. Running smooth as silk now. 😂
Glad I'm not alone lol
You should do a "shoot a self tapper into it" t-shirt!
Man that is such a good idea no joke!! I can't believe he hasn't already done that unless he has and im just oblivious lol
I remember these back in the day. With IROCs and fox body Mustangs everywhere, Eagles we're about as un-cool as you could get! Almost 40 years later? It's actually a pretty cool little car! I'm glad you saved it!
It needs a roof mounted light bar for that "Enduro" look!
Agree!
JD is going to have the best childhood memories
"And if we don't - we gonna loose the shop" another t-shirt worthy classic.
don't forget "I paid three dollars for this car."
I'm a 46 old guy who was taught like you're son& I appreciate it everyday it's really good to see you keeping a old trade alive you have my respect& I'll help try to get you many likes as I can
Thank you!

Have had my sx4 for about 17 years. Still going strong and fun. Watching some of your fixes and getting ideas. But I have developed over time an OK working knowledge of these cars. LOVE mine and modded it a bit. Figured out retrofit parts, jeep swap ins and what nots. I did replace the rear with an XJ 8.25, and a low range T-case among many things and made it what I think AMC should have done.
I was going to chime in with this and that here and there...... BUT I had so much fun listening to your boy and his enthusiasm and actually some good input I just let all my comments go. So cool and awesome memories you are building with him. I smiled all the way through and I don't even have any kids. Heres a link to a vid I did after my poor Eagle sat for 5 years and I put some love back into it last spring (2022) Revived my love for her...... Can't wait to see how yours progresses ! PEACE !!!!

That NASCAR wheel change had me dying!!😂
Now this episode is something you can really sink your Talons into. Danger, Off-roading and Evading the Police!
I like when you said “I can’t wait to get my Waylon Jennings tape in that cassette player” and your son goes “oh yeah” 😂
I discovered your channel back when you were working on the goat and subbed ever since. This is one of the best channels on CZcams. You’re a great dad too.
Thanks that means a lot
I agree.
Dal'un reminds me of how my dad worked and taught his three sons in the 1960's. Good old fashioned DIY where trial an' error is a great tool for ler'nun.
Your son is very bright and really adds to your channel!
That's exactly how AMC did it in the
WRC Group B class. 👨🏻🔧🚘
The Steaming Eagle rides again...🦅🦅🦅
Genius
This channel reminds me of when I was young and broke working on my rusty piles of crap. Now I'm old and broke but my vehicle is not a rusty crap pile of crap. Yet.
I test drove a hatch eagle back in like 93. It was at a Honda dealership and they wanted like a $1200. I probably should’ve grabbed since I always had an eye for these. Please keep thrashing it and fixing it!
21 gallon tanks on those.
"you're saying the performance upgrade doesn't do anything" priceless, smart kid.
Dude 😎 you've totally brought that car from the dead, I love it!!! This car is amazing and really fun for you and your son. It looks so cool ripping around the mud. Your such a good father to your son and your really making the best memories with your son. When he gets older he will have the best memories ever saying to himself, my Dad rocks!!!
That Eagle is a diamond in the rough... very rough, but a gem all the same.
I love this car. The first car I went solo in with my drivers license was an 81 AMC Spirit. It was the 2wd 4cy/4spd version. Man these cars are something else and honestly nice to drive. And that vid...at around 55:00 LOL Cig in the mouth, rowing gears, looking in the mirror. Man that was great.
I had the chance to buy one of these Eagles many years ago but it didn’t have a ratchet strap transmission mount so I passed. Now, THIS car suits you perfectly! You look great in it!!!
"I dont want to put a hose clamp in there - that would be hackery!" LIterally the next clip "So the trans mount is broke - we we are gonna fix it with this ratchet strap...." Dude - I love you! LOL! - Subbed! BTW: I grew up riding in my dad's AMC Concord (2wd brother of the eagle) - Dad worked for AMC / AmGeneral is entire career.
Dalton: Flood Area Ahead
JD: ...Good
🤣
Resulting in our untimely death. Ahhh 😍, a man after my own heart. This is why I watch.
I remember when these cars came out in the early 80's in NY/NJ. They were plagued with problems from the beginning which was the beginning of the end for AMC. The concept was cool and for the first year or two of ownership owners had a blast driving them in snow. Then came rust, electrical problems, and constant breakdowns and they disappeared from the roads as quickly as the Chevy Luv! Both vehicles disintegrated within 3-5 years, from new. The only survivors are southern vehicles.
Cruise, craters, and cop cars WHAT a ride... You can't get content like this anywhere...
You betcha
I’m glad you specified that you used the correct installation method for the baling wire. I have used both methods before but I couldn’t tell the difference
The Eagle freaking Rocks!
Love that little car!!!! Reminds me of those old stomper cars from the 80s
Yah, a license plate and some self-tappers will take care of that frame rail.
Whoah! I was kiddin'!
This is one sweet little revival you have going on. This little car is a stand-out.
Love this one
Workbench reveal was a treat!
Kinda getting a little classy, just saying
I've owned 3 eagle wagons throughout the years and now I feel the need to get one again
15:15 Never knew this model had the extended length u-bolt option so you can hear it hit the frame rail before you fully bottom out the rear suspension. So many advanced features! 😅
Fairly certain the rear suspension doesn't move lol
She sounds more better gooder runnin' on six than on four.
Back in the year 2009 or so, I was the CEO of the city's Red Cross operation. I hired a tall gorgeous woman to be the director of our health & safety program - wonderfully talented single Mom. One Monday she came to work "tired" from her long weekend. I joked thinking she'd had her boyfriend over or something. No. She changed out the brake pads in her car. New respect. The woman had it all.
It definitely helps having the right firing order!
We all learn eventually... Eventually.....
I don’t know how this guy doesn’t have at least 300,000 subscribers, he might be a menace to society 😂but his content is top notch 💯💯💯💯💯. All his videos are pure comedy and genuine entertainment⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The old concord I had back in the day had a 30 gallon tank and a four cylinder. I live in central Illinois. Could make it to the upper peninsula and almost half way home on one tank. Loved that car. That and my station wagon ( 1990 mercury grand marquis) were the only 2 cars I cried when they went away.
Are you saying our performance upgrade isn't doing anything? That was priceless.👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
That's so cool that your son helps you and seems to enjoy it. I wish I could have done that kind of thing with my pops.
Just gotta make it fun for em. Like donuts and evading the police
Amazing how much better it sounds and looks with all piston firing, that is some stuff I'd overlook myself. Nobody knows how to screw myself like me. Awesome video
I love AMC and I'm so glad that you saved the Eagle. Looks like a fun car to drive. Keep up the great work!
"Who would do this?... it's me, I'm that guy!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can relate more than I probably should. But hey, works is works right! Great video my man! Always entertaining! Blessings and respect!
😂 i just heard him say that!
The Eagle has landed! What a beast this ride is!
The real hero in this. The headliner!
It’s wild the 95’ Cherokee Sport with a 4.0HO and AX-15 5 speed manual I had in HS was the exact same color as that SX4 and had the same black rubber molding with stripe that came with the sport package. It was like a trip down memory lane with the view of you working in the wheel well.
I’ve had a few of those 4.0s and they all rattled like that. Drove myself crazy trying to quiet the ticking down, eventually just accepted it and gave up. Send it!
Dalton, i just watched all of the eagle liftback series again. For like the third time. I appreciate these and find them enjoyable everytime. I hope the eagle is still treating you like the backyard built car it is.
After watching various series of videos. I always look forward to the usage of the phrase, "time to shoot some self tappers." It always reminds me of the phrase my dad always used which was, "Don't worry about it. It will be alright."
Thanks for watching!
There is an old AMC dealership here, Long since closed. They have started selling all the cars there. I'm talkin Javlins, Rebels, and Eagles. There were a few AMX's, but they went quick. I have owned several AMC's over the years, still love em. Love that Eagle!
“We have no gauges”, “yeah because someone pulled out all the wires” your kid is hilarious.
You can do so much cool stuff with this car. A guy I knew had three of them. He put a huge lift in one of them and put a gigantic winch on the front of it. That thing looked awesome. This will be a fun one to build.
Every Eagle/Concord (the 2wd version) we owned growing up had a pliers on the AC vent shelf under the steering wheel to open the hood--if you know, you know!
I had an 85 wagon that DIDN'T have vice grips until I let a friend borrow it for a week.........
@@PoleBarnGarage Yes, it could be done with just the right touch.
That little beige gem could use a new muffler/exhaust system. Im thinking it would benefit from some extra back pressure.
Has no exhaust at all, you're likely correct, but baby steps! This ain't (insert millionaire CZcamsr here) I gotta nibble at my projects like anyone else lol
@@PoleBarnGarage 🎯 yea me too.
Boy I tell ya, that Derrick fellow over at VGG.. I'll bet he's doing quite well. His channel apparently does well. I've noticed most if not all of the cars that he's featured on his channel are all either lined up on his back 40 or inside that giant friggin garage. So he's not selling them. Can a feller do well with a CZcams channel? Because Derek certainly seems to be blessed.
You Tube crazy awards... Puddin and You ! Congratulations. Keep crazy alive !
Grab a PTO on/off push/pull cable. That's what I used for all my Eagle wagons. Worked great!
Great idea
The eagle has landed. You pushed the stuffing on this old car. And it did not break down. The brakes are working. So, I think you may have a driver. Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
I know this video is 6 months old but the 4wd actuator has little e clips that hold the fork in place if you take them out and slide the fork to the 4wd spot and put the clups back in it will go over the collar and truly lock it in all time 4wd learned that years ago on the old 2nd gen cummins front axle for snowplowing
Self tappers ,,,been a while,that a boy..
Man that interior looks pretty good for the age of that Eagle. Those were "granny cars" when I was in high school. Now it's cool! Catching the brake fluid is a good idea for many reasons, one being it will remove paint! What is with the LONG u-bolts on the leaf springs? They are about 5 inches too long. Blue Tooth Drive Shaft on front! LOL
I'm not sure, maybe it has springs in it or something? Or had?
One thing I like about your videos is that you're not afraid to smoke on video. All the other guys are like, "ewww smoke smell in this car" or "nasty smoker", but you are in their face with it. thank you for that from a fellow smoker. I smoke on my videos too. Screw the non smokers who hate my freedom, lol.
That things glorious. Now I want one. Thanks 🤣
last time I did brakes I had to replace some brake lines anyway so used the old lines and fittings to make bench bleeders that just dump right back into the reservoir. Works like a champ.
I’ve always wanted an amc eagle so I’ve loved watching series! Keep up the good content
Can't wait to see it in person
LOVE the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Orange 9MM stickers!
good thing that you didn't lose the shop once again!
Hope yall got back home before dark. Good content as usual. Man I love some #9 wire. Fixes everything.
That’s the exact tire size I’m running in my Jeep Cherokee XJ. 235/75r15 BFG K02’s some of the best tires ever made!
Always a worthy watch, deadpan humor at its best :).
every time you upload i get excited and cant wait to watch it
Learn something new everyday.. thanks..
53:41 "Heeeeyyyy yooooouuu guuuyyyssss!!" lmao
Man I wish we'd gotten these in Australia. Would be wicked with a turbo Barra swap.
Another winner. Love the Eagle videos.
Awesome!
Wholesome content alert with father and son
Love that car. I used to see a black one with reddish trim coloring driving around my home town. I've wanted one ever since.
Love the down to earth real. Car guy shit man. N the fact your there with your son .. REALIST CZcamsR OUT HERE... MERICA
Thanks brother
You're welcome man. Any time.. keep it coming .. truly love watching y'all... Let's face it I'm not a rich man the fact that u do what u do not being a rich man either gives me hope that maybe I can jus build something fun.
I have the same rims on my ranger and I love the look. It’s just sweet
You are doing a good job also I LOVE YOUR COREVETTE!!!!!!
Thanks 👍
The Eagle has landed, that's really a cool build.
"if we don't fix this car, we will starve to death" 🤣🤣 should have been on the thumbnail!🤣👏🏻👏🏻

You...ok so I'm going to hurt myself badly
JD...ok
That thing is cool looking. Makes me think of when I took my old Pinto station wagon and put some 33s on it
I don't hand out compliments easily, but Dalton... you are a great Dad.
Appreciate that!
I like it. Super cool 😎. that is one mean little 4x4. Keep up the great work and I will keep on watching
I have a feeling that these AMC cars were more hand built than we think. lol My mom had a 1968 Javelin in pea soup green with vinyl roof when my parents met. Ive only seen pics of it as she sold it off after my parents got married. But she liked it a lot
Pole Barn I love you videos man, keep it the awesome work you do, and I would so buy a t-shirt that said just put a self tapper in it!!! Lol
Kinda cool how that thing sounds like an old 6V71 powered dump truck.
Cool stuff Dalton!
Congrats PBG and Son on another adventure of will he make-it back home.. cool sx4 car..
The eagle has landed? Nah, the Spruce Goose just took off:) Loving all you do PBG!
