I'm only 6:30 into this video and I have declared this video the best Blender tutorial on the internet. He doesn't just rapidly work getting you lost. He actually explains what he's doing, things you should be looking at in the UI, and why he is doing things the way he is. That last part is critical for becoming a good modeler. It's very important to understand WHY certain techniques are used, instead of just do it this way because. Kudos, amazing tutorial.
I am totally new to blender and it's quite fast actually. Had to 0.75 speed and paused anyways. But yeah, as for a beginner I found it pretty nice. I don't fully understand the INSET however. Why can't i just add new cut loop for example and just move it? Wouldn't it be the same? Also, sometimes I clicked by accident something that my graphics went wild and had to restart xD

@@PinkeySuavo Loop cuts work by going around objects. ALL the way around. Face inset simply grabs one face and makes a smaller copy. For subsurf work like he's doing, face inset lets him clarify the square side of the hammer without restricting the top and bottom from rounding a bit, which is the effect he's looking for.
Even though I was quite familiar with basic modelling - I always watch these kind of tutorials to see if I can pick up any new tips or tricks, which I did with this video. I also need to point out the excellent pace and clear presentation of this video. I wish I had a teacher like you when I was starting out, this is a brilliant introduction to basic modelling in Blender. Subscribed.
The key is that not a single line is excessive and off-topic, every single word of his is useful and to the point. He's probably a professional tutorial maker who make a living out of these. He reminds me of an old Flash tutorial book that I bought when I was little, the videos on that book's accompanied VCD was in a similar style, and I learned to make a simple Flash game from scratch in no time. I've been a Flash/AS2 and later AS3 developer ever since. This kind of videos can have huge impact on a kid's life.

While using blender, I discovered that we can hold shift while moving or scaling anything, to do it more accurately. And while using loop cuts, you can press a number to specify how many loop cuts you want. Hope that helps in any possible way :)
This is the best blender tutorial on youtube. This guy explaines everything fast but fast enough for you to understand. He's also one of those guys who doesn't treat you like a baby so, that's nice

One tip for new people, when inseting new faces make sure the edges don't overlap with the old ones, they should be really close together but not over eachother. If they are over eachother if you use Mesh -> Clean Up -> Merge by distance in the future to remove doubles it will merge the vertices that are overlapped and ruin the inset.
Hello, back 2 years later with something to say. This video kicked off my love for 3D Modeling. This video was very motivational, and I remember exactly how excited I was to of made something. Every day, for 2 years I practiced. If I failed, I tried again with something new. Need a break? Opened a new project. I just *kept. going.* I even wanted to quit, thinking I wouldn't amount to anything with this knowledge, but I just kept coming back here, to this. I lost my job during covid, so I started taking commissions. Eventually, it became my main source of income to take care of myself. You single-handedly initiated a life I never saw before, changing it for the better.. Thank you for randomly deciding to make a hammer one day, and teaching all the basics I needed then. I really appreciate that on one hand, you go to almost absurd levels of explicitly explaining literally every little step (which is a good thing in this case!), but then on the other hand you also hint at what other use-cases these functions can have, like at 6:50 and beyond. I'm coming from 2 years of learning Maya, and was looking for a tutorial on simple modelling using extrusion and bevel. This did the trick exactly as I needed it, so I'm glad I found this. Thanks!

Excellent: love the way you've used a perfect example for reasonably complex geometry. You've also provided the example up front, so we can understand the purpose of everything you're doing, unlike so many, who seem to think they should keep everything a mystery until the very end.
As a beginner to both CGI and Blender, I have read through the manual and watched several tutorials, but this is the best that I have found thus-far. The clear and concise explanations and relatively slow pace are VERY beneficial -- especially in 2021 starting out with Blender v2.93.1. Subscribed!

WOW! I am really impressed by how much better the interface looks. It looks a lot cleaner than it used to, and it has a modern look which was needed. I love that the grid extends into infinity instead of the original ways for the new project. They devs have done an amazing job with Blender.

I have no modeling experience and haven't made my way through this entire tutorial yet, but I already appreciate his use of arrows pointing to what he's talking about, and the fact that he doesn't move the mouse all over the viewport while he's talking. I've got to incorporate Blender basics into a multimedia class I'll be teaching in July; can always use helpful teaching tips. Onward...
Excellent video. My favorite Blender 2.8 tutorial so far. Just two remarks. 1. There are a few extrude operations that are repeated twice, instead of doing it twice you can press shift+R to Repeat the action. 2. You can also quickly change viewpoints by using the tilde key (~, right above the Tab key on many keyboards). Press it and you'll see a menu with numbers. You can also hold it and flick your mouse in the direction of the buttons, i.e. left for left viewpoint, right for right viewpoint, up for top viewpoint etc. I don't have a numpad and this is much easier than going through the menu. In fact even if I had a numpad I'd use the tilde key, it's very fast.

You know, Blender was actually the very first modeling software I ever learned. It was back in around 2010, when I was in my last year of middle school, and I was actually pretty good at it. I stopped for a while and later learned Fusion360, since I was mostly using it for 3D printing, but now in trying to get back into Blender for work reasons, but with the new 2.8 interface, nothing looks the same and it looks like I'm going to have to learn it again from scratch. Your video is awesome! It doesn't drag things on, it gets straight to the point. Thanks a bunch!

This is the first tutorial video which i use to practice my skill using blender, back then i was so confused and scared so much i don't put to much thought into the decision you make in the tutorial video , but looking back now to this video i could finally found the solution to my current problem with blender,thank you so much
You know, Blender was actually the very first modeling software I ever learned. It was back in around 2010, when I was in my last year of middle school, and I was actually pretty good at it. I stopped for a while and later learned Fusion360, since I was mostly using it for 3D printing, but now in trying to get back into Blender for work reasons, but with the new 2.8 interface, nothing looks the same and it looks like I'm going to have to learn it again from scratch.
