  • We are back on Steve's O scale model railroad to visit the underground city at Ironton Park. Underground cities are exotic yet more common that one might think. Underground Ironton is based in part on Underground Pendleton in Oregon. In Pendleton the Chinese miners were not welcome on the streets, and ere forced to line in the basements of downtown buildings, and so started taking out walls between buildings and tunneling under the streets making their own city below ground.

      Wish I could send a photo. No matter Steve has turned this into a diorama. Wow looks great. Sad to see it not on the layout but it lives on in new form.

    This is cool! Would also be cool as an idea for an underground Dwarf hold!

      Monster Hobbies High River AB back when I was making dungeons and dragons figures in the 1970s, I had an idea for dungeon tunnels that hung on the wall. Could be as big as an entire wall with dinner connecting stairways and shafts tunnels made larger with mirrors dozens and dozens of figures and decorations. As part of my product line I offered wall torches and doors chairs coats of arms to mount on walls all sorts of stuff like that.The basic tunnels were formed with Skal be Claire and then baked in the oven. I don’t think I took any pictures of that stuff which is really sad

      Darn.
      I was looking at some mine drawings from the 1800's that i might use and we also live close to Frank Slide in Alberta, Canada, which was a vertical mine before it collapsed back in the 1900's. There's a "dedication Museum there now. Great place for inspiration!

      I'm putting up some footage (at some point) of the mines under Park city Utah. 1400 miles if tunnels!!!!!!!! Most with 18 inch gauge track.....

    • @monsterhobbies

      Nice! i think the dwarf set is based on the mines of the early 1880's as they have ponies with rail carts.

    I wonder if Madame Woo knows the owner of the Chinese restaurant in Highland Park, CO on my pike? Mi Hung Lo's is a small, but profitable, all you can eat establishment down near the engine yard. If they do know each other, I wonder what develops between them... Great tour, Sir. Thanks.

    Underground cities can have rich and dark histories. Portland Oregon's underground is really colorful and its been said that's where the term Shanghaied comes from. The sailors or men in general would stop in for a beer only to never leave through the front door again. The poor soul would wake up literally on a slow boat to China and a new occupation.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  Před 7 lety

      Really want to see that. LOVE Portland, but have never see the underground. And Seattle. ANDEdinburgh en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh_Vaults
