    This video is a review of the new 6.8" Kindle Paperwhite 5, what Amazon calls the 11th gen Kindle. It's larger, faster, and now has adjustable frontlight color.

    The flashing is how ereaders refresh the pages. You can go into settings and turn “page refresh” off. This will stop the flashing you are seeing. It will then only occur maybe after about 50 page turns. This helps prevents ghosting of the previous page on the new pag you turn to.

    • @sarfaraz.hosseini
      @sarfaraz.hosseini Před 2 lety

      Libra 2 has a better screen, crisper looking and deeper blacks and whiter whites, because it's indented with a thin layer of film over the e-ink display, and this has a thicker layer over the e-ink to make it flush. Kindle may have a better processor and I do prefer the the new UI with swipe down menu.

      Voyage has the best contrast of any e-reader even today (no-idea why). This has more even lighting and warm lighting. Kobo Libra 2 has better contrast and sharper text than PW5, but contrast is not as good as the Voyage, but it has more even, and warm, lighting over the Voyage.

      I have an oasis and I LOVE it, but until it’s updated, it’s not worth the extra hundred dollars. If you can, I would wait until the next oasis comes to drop the big bucks. Except the build, there really is no difference, and the build of the new paper white is not as great as the oasis but still awesome! But if money is not an issue, the premium feel of the oasis is really great and I would recommend it!

      I order a Kindle 5 yesterday, I was undecided between it and the Oasis, but given that the screen size is almost the same and this Kindle 5 has some of the features the Oasis includes, there is really no point on getting the Oasis, unless you are a very avid audiobook listener, that I would think, is the only big difference between the two.

    Love the new hardware (I have 5 e-ink kindles) but don’t understand the obsession with speed. Reading is what these are for and since when do book worms race through books? Why do we need to turn the pages so quickly. And I hate the new page turn animation. What I do love is the bigger screen and the whiter background with improved contrast.

    • @michal553
      @michal553 Před 2 lety +2

      I guess speed is important if you read comics or PDFs on the device. The addition I like the most is the warm backlight. Basically every e-reader from other companies had that feature, except Kindle Paperwhite, the most popular e-reader...

    • @lordramoth3416
      @lordramoth3416 Před 2 lety

      @@michal553 good points! I don’t read comics on kindle as I need colour for that and I used to speed read in paperbacks amend hardcovers but worryingly that’s one thing the kindle has stopped . Maybe I should buy an oasis and turn off the screen sensitivity if that’s a thing 😎

    • @BreadmanPlaysGames
      @BreadmanPlaysGames Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, I agree about the reading part, speed doesn't matter that much then. When it matters is navigating through my library and using the store - I still have a Paperwhite 6th gen and the store is barely usable because it's slow.

    Please do not laugh but I own a kindle 3 Keyboard from 2010. I tend to keep my electronics for ages. The only actual issue I have with it obviously is the lack of a proper reading light for low light situations and the slow page turn with weird intermediate state (all black). Currently I am using my 2021 iPad mini for nighttime reading. and the kindle for daylight reading with all the synching hassle.
    So is this worth the upgrade to the basic version, or is the page turn in reality still an annoyance?

    • @TheeBookReader
      @TheeBookReader  Před 2 lety

      Page transitions are a lot smoother on newer models than the Kindle Keyboard, especially on the new Paperwhite page turns are really fast and smooth. My Oasis has a lot more ghosting for some reason. The basic Kindle is an improvement over the K3 as well, but it still has the same low resolution 800 x 600 screen, and page transitions aren't as smooth as the new Paperwhite.
