This video is a review of the new 6.8" Kindle Paperwhite 5, what Amazon calls the 11th gen Kindle. It's larger, faster, and now has adjustable frontlight color.

It's not only an amazing product, but the review is also very well done. Exactly what I was looking for.
I just ordered this, and it'll be my first Kindle, so I've been watching so many of these videos, and I just wanted to let you know this is literally the BEST review on here. I'm so grateful I came across your video. Thank you so much! I feel like I know everything I need to know. I'm even more excited for it to be delivered now! 😁
this is another great review, I really like your way of talking, you give a lot of info out. From what I see on this Paperwhite the UI and the general usability beat the Libra 2 hands down.
actually a really helpful overview. i learned a few things about the device i never knew. thanks!
Thanks! was waiting for your review 😁 Excited to get the new Paperwhite
Ive just upgraded to this one from my PW 4, comes tomorrow & this video is great to see the difference between the two. Upgrading for the warm light but the speediness looks fabulous too.
Excellent review of the Paperwhite 5. Very clear and well presented. Glad I watched it before first use.
Very competent, informative, review - much appreciated.
That was one of the best reviews of anything I have ever seen.
So much better than all the other reviews
The flashing is how ereaders refresh the pages. You can go into settings and turn “page refresh” off. This will stop the flashing you are seeing. It will then only occur maybe after about 50 page turns. This helps prevents ghosting of the previous page on the new pag you turn to.
My first kindle will arrive during the next week. I am really excited ~
just got two paperwhites for me and the fiancé. love it, very nice to get back into reading and the kindle just supports whatever you wanna do and wherever you wanna go.
Page turn animation looks very satisfying
Can you please compare the screen clarity and contrast to both the Voyage and Oasis? Thank you
You read my mind. Thanks much for answering my questions. I should have watched this vid.
This such a complete and perfect review. like it
Way better reviews than the good eReader... I find this more comprehensive and easier to listen 👍
Thanks very much for the video! Does yours have the wireless charging feature?
Is the screen glass on the Paperwhite 5? I can tell the text looks so much better just by looking at the video
PW5 vs Libra 2 screen contrast is all i need to see. Kindles are given already to be faster.
I disagree. I'm a 10+ year kindle user and recently switched to Kobo Clara HD. The Clara has features that kindle is just NOW getting and the Clara has been out since 2018 and is faster than the comparable 2018 Paperwhite.
Retuned my oasis and went for the Libra h2o because it’s screen was better, battery lasted twice as long and it played nice with more stores and formats. Never using kindle again.
Libra 2 has a better screen, crisper looking and deeper blacks and whiter whites, because it's indented with a thin layer of film over the e-ink display, and this has a thicker layer over the e-ink to make it flush. Kindle may have a better processor and I do prefer the the new UI with swipe down menu.
Not so easy to switch over if you already have a library of kindle books.
Can't wait for your video of Reading Manga and other B&W graphic novels on this
I was tempted by my third Kindle, but now leaning toward the Libra 2. I'd love a comparison of the two. Many thanks.
I’ve been wanting the kobo sage buy idk
I have the previous version but I find myself reading on smartphone or tablet, so it's not used much. Smartphone for books and tablet for mangas. This new device could finally be the softspot between the two. The additional real estate is really tempting.
Reading on smartphome and tablet will ruin ur eyes in future /
Sold. I was tempted by this anyway but now I REALLY want the new Kindle!!! I understand it has TTS too - any thoughts on that??
I would like a comparative between this and the voyage. Thinking of upgrading only if the screen is similar or better.
me too
Me too!!
Why can't Amazon just come out with a voyage 2? They would be King 👑
It's better than the Voyage because of the warm light and waterproof. If Voyage got updated, it would be king.
Voyage has the best contrast of any e-reader even today (no-idea why). This has more even lighting and warm lighting. Kobo Libra 2 has better contrast and sharper text than PW5, but contrast is not as good as the Voyage, but it has more even, and warm, lighting over the Voyage.
NICE REVIEW
I read some cmt on Reddit that this generation had some problem about system and took more time to restart. Until now, had your kindle been gotten those problems? Thank you.
Is the weight difference noticeable?
Great review bro! Could you do a "kindle paper white 5 vs kindle Oasis" comparison? Can't decide which one to buy, I was ready to buy the Oasis until I see this new paper white, would appreciate if you can do their comparison review. Thanks my bro!
Agreed, I also am also having trouble deciding between the Oasis and this new Paperwhite.
I have an oasis and I LOVE it, but until it’s updated, it’s not worth the extra hundred dollars. If you can, I would wait until the next oasis comes to drop the big bucks. Except the build, there really is no difference, and the build of the new paper white is not as great as the oasis but still awesome! But if money is not an issue, the premium feel of the oasis is really great and I would recommend it!
@@arushik1612 Agreed, I'm waiting for an update announcement
I order a Kindle 5 yesterday, I was undecided between it and the Oasis, but given that the screen size is almost the same and this Kindle 5 has some of the features the Oasis includes, there is really no point on getting the Oasis, unless you are a very avid audiobook listener, that I would think, is the only big difference between the two.
I was always hesitant to buy this because i have 2 phones, and a macbook. But, i am not comfortable reading for too long on my devices so I ordered this and will update my comment about my experience when it arrives ❤
?
Thanks
I always want to get a paperwhite because I just want to read on my kindle but I just can't get over the Flashing this does when it loads a new page. Why does it have to do that? No other kindle does it...
How does overdrive work with this?
Does the Voyage still have a better screen?
Yeah, the Voyage is still in a league of its own. Blacks are slightly blacker with these new E Ink screens, same with Kobos new models, but text is still sharper and clearer on the Voyage and still a bit darker too.
now that's an upgrade
What about the PDF Files?
Hi, I don't seem to have that Page Turn Animation option where you show it. Any idea why it's not in my menu?
The software probably just needs to update first. Try restarting your Kindle.
Screen length vertically?
The screen looks much bigger than the inches would suggest, looks like a worthy upgrade.
very much so
My kindle(2021) has the latest firmware but the old user interface 🤔
How can i activate the new interface?
(5.14.0)
I think the latest firmware is 5.14.1, right?
Can you still side load books on this one like on the previous ones?
Of course.
Sorry to ask you about 10th gen in this video’ comment. Does the 10th gen has feature font changes?
You can. My model is Paperwhite 6th and I do that sometime. But custom font only work for ebook wirh azw3 format and book without embedded font on it
@@kia4335 thank you. I'm going to buy my first ever kindle. 10th gen, i think the best choice.
@@sakuyamibu09 i have the basic 10th gen it does have font feature but the ppi isn't as clear as the paperwhite. If you could afford paperwhite, should go for it instead.
Trading my Oasis for this one, so I am hyped xD
Love the new hardware (I have 5 e-ink kindles) but don’t understand the obsession with speed. Reading is what these are for and since when do book worms race through books? Why do we need to turn the pages so quickly. And I hate the new page turn animation. What I do love is the bigger screen and the whiter background with improved contrast.
I guess speed is important if you read comics or PDFs on the device. The addition I like the most is the warm backlight. Basically every e-reader from other companies had that feature, except Kindle Paperwhite, the most popular e-reader...
@@michal553 good points! I don’t read comics on kindle as I need colour for that and I used to speed read in paperbacks amend hardcovers but worryingly that’s one thing the kindle has stopped . Maybe I should buy an oasis and turn off the screen sensitivity if that’s a thing 😎
Yeah, I agree about the reading part, speed doesn't matter that much then. When it matters is navigating through my library and using the store - I still have a Paperwhite 6th gen and the store is barely usable because it's slow.
@@BreadmanPlaysGames great points. I have a huge library but everything into collections which speeds things up dramatically. Took me weeks to organise it though
Please do not laugh but I own a kindle 3 Keyboard from 2010. I tend to keep my electronics for ages. The only actual issue I have with it obviously is the lack of a proper reading light for low light situations and the slow page turn with weird intermediate state (all black). Currently I am using my 2021 iPad mini for nighttime reading. and the kindle for daylight reading with all the synching hassle.
So is this worth the upgrade to the basic version, or is the page turn in reality still an annoyance?
Page transitions are a lot smoother on newer models than the Kindle Keyboard, especially on the new Paperwhite page turns are really fast and smooth. My Oasis has a lot more ghosting for some reason. The basic Kindle is an improvement over the K3 as well, but it still has the same low resolution 800 x 600 screen, and page transitions aren't as smooth as the new Paperwhite.
Is it possible to load books via USB C or only via wifi/email?
Yes, you can transfer files via usb
@@darkcaribou I know, I have kindle from november :D
Hi, Is it possible to connect this kindle with pc and transfer my books to kindle? For example, as if you want to transfer data on a USB flash disc? The second question is if is it possible to turn off the front light? Thanks :)
not sure if goes off all of the way when at lowest setting but it isnt noticeable to me. the battery live is so good even when reading hours a day and having the wifi on and front lights at half brightness.
@@rewmeister isn't about battery but about the right light spectrum before sleeping. Night mode in this model is good but i don't think that isn't without blue and green spectrum.
New kindle paperwhite 5 has 28.4%😀 bigger screen size than kindle paperwhite 4.
Which model supports audio books ?
All the current ones.
My main issue with kindle is lack of Swedish books and also that when you want to translate you need to always swipe past Wikipedia first before you get ti the translation box. So slow
Can you turn the light off completely?
yes
Wow, there's a new one? I thought they were not updating these anymore. Whenever I check to see if there's a software update, the option is not available. I assumed that meant that was the end of them. Confused now!
Does it also support/read Epub files?
Kindles don't support ePub files but Amazon now converts ePub to Kindle format to read on Kindles, as long as the ePubs don't have DRM. More info: blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2022/04/29/kindle-ereaders-now-support-epubs-sent-by-email/
@@TheeBookReader Thank you
Why buy kindle if iPad can also for read ebooks, much faster, and can do other tasks Kindle can not do?
Because this is far easier on the eyes to read with
Can we read ebooks in landscape as well?
Of course
@@tmg1219 thank you batman😄
this device not support the pdf format and android apps. So it is my loss project. Total wastage of 179 pound and travel cost
Is the power button still on the bottom?
Yes. Yes it is. So it's still borderline unusable.
E readers are too dull looking to my eye, thats why they look nothing like real books. Kindle App on tablet looks better to me because the brightness makes them look more like white paperback pages.
