      My favorite was where he’s walking out saying hi to everyone and he says “hey there you are”
      The other guy says “hi do I know you”
      And Austin says “no but that’s where you are you’re there”
      It always cracks me up

      The UK version has always been uncut, too. Apparently, the main thing missing from the US version are Christian Slater's cameo scenes as the security guard who Austin hypnotizes. It was over allegations at the time of the movie's release that he had abused his wife, and so his scenes were cut in America. But for some reason, not from the PAL releases. Fun fact, Mike Myers was a fan of Susanna Hoffs and the Bangles, and even owns a Rickenbacker 350 Susanna Hoffs Limited Edition electric guitar.
    Upon meeting her, they created the group "Ming Tea", and Hoffs brought on board singer, songwriter, Matthew Sweet. Also, Susanna presented Myers to her then boyfriend, Jay Roach, a young film director, trying to make it in tinsel town. Myers offered Roach the job of directing the film. The producers weren't very convinced, until seeing Roach's story board presentation. Then they were sold.
    And in the scene where Austin is in Alotta Fagina's apartment, the background music is Susanna Hoffs version of "The Look of Love" by Bacharach, which is absolutely beautiful.
    When the film was actually made, Hoffs and Roach were happily married, with a son.

    Mike Meyers sited the 1966 movie "Our Man Flint" as an inspiration. This movie was a spy spoof, but it was so well constructed and James Coburn was so good that it was taken as a serious spy flick. The movie followed the James Bond formula of someone taking over the world. Also see Dean Martin's "Matt Helm" movies. I think these were supposed to be serious but came off as spoofs.

    • @frankschneider6156
      @frankschneider6156 Před 4 lety

      The Derek Flint movies were spoofs (and easily recognizable as such), but where pretty well made. The 4 Matt Helm movies with Dino were somewhat entertaining, but that's where it ended. The Matt Helm TV series was not that great either, but when talking about spoofs, don't forget "The man from U.N.C.L.E" with Robert Vaughn and the incredible British TV series "The Avengers" with Patrick Macnee (especially the episodes with Diana Rigg, starting from Season 4).

    I loved the movie and it's sequels! Even though I was grown with a 17 year old son by then. What did it for me was the fact I grew up in the 1960's. So much of what we saw on screen really did exist in that decade. It was a wonderful look back on a my childhood of a crazy groovy mood the country/world was into. Which I never really experienced to the fullest, since I was in grade school....Mike did a great job bringing it all back to life, once experiencing it through the big screen this time.

At the time I didn't know all the old James Bond movie references like he did, and he was going hysterical. By the time the sequel came out, Austin Powers had become a huge hit.

    ...Then the VHS hit... and I probably never laughed so hard at a movie so many times with such replay value in all my life. By the end me and my best friend had entire scenes memorized.

    Being a teenager throughout the 90's myself, I would definitely agree that Austin Powers was the most quotable comedic movie of that decade... right behind Friday that is. This is my opinion and is based solely on my experiences with the kind of people who I associated myself with, whether randomly or regularly, and that is that as much as those people liked to quote Austin Powers AND Dr Evil, I definitely heard more people quoting Friday. And with Friday it wasn't just the main characters (Smokey and Craig) who were quoted, a lot of the small characters who were only in a scene or 2 had memorable lines that were often quoted by the public, at least in the part of the public that I was around the most.
