  • I finally found the right colours for the silicone fluke I wanted to make. Let me show you the process of casting silicone caulking in a plaster mould to make your own mermaid tail (mistakes to avoid)
    HI everyone!
A few weeks ago you saw me make this plaster fluke mould: • I FINALLY MADE A PROPE...
and today is the day to finally use it. It took some sampling to find the right colours and I now have a great concept for this tail that will be revealed soon! As some of you may know (from Instagram hehe) I got a new contract and how to go away like now so won't be able to work on this fin but I've got other exciting things planned and prefilmed for you guys!
Anyway I'm really excited to hear what you think about this fluke!

Haha, washing the piece after unmoulding helps a lot 😁 but yeah it's stinky 😅

How many tubes of silicone did you use for the fluke? It is stunning

I'm in the beginning stages of researching silicone tails, so pardon my silly question, but could all purpose silicone work for a tail or did you only use it as a test?

*Aquarium safe silicone will work for everything (keep in mind it's not very flexible so I'd recommend making an individually scaled tail - I have videos on that too). All purpose silicone I'd only use for samples as it tends to be cheaper but still if you make samples with aquarium safe silicone straight away you can then use them for something else 🙂

@@beazknees no worries, I get really excited when people actually plan to make their own tails 🥰 I'm here if you have any more questions and let me know how you get on!

Dont use all purpose, it’s not marine safe.

I'm hoping to make my own fluke mold! How much did everything cost??

Silicon rather it be all purpose or marine safe are not safe for your skin and should not be used in an attempt to make a silicon tail if you want to make your own tail you need dragon scale silicon it’s marine and skin safe don’t get yourself injured or even killed trying to make a mermaid tail with things not intended for contact with your skin always start yourself with a fabric tail 🥰 stay safe peeps

Thanks for your input Stephanie. I have made a tail with dragon skin before and it's great 😊 the silicone I'm using here is for a specific method made on top of a fabric base so it doesn't touch your skin directly. I spoke to the company's chemist and he assured me the silicone is not harmful to the skin (even direct contact) or marine life after it's cured and washed carefully. I understand your concern but I did extensive research on this topic and have been making tails for a few years with no issues. Skin safe silicone means it's safe to use on skin even if uncured so the one I'm using is not marked as skin safe but in good hands can be a very useful tool. 😊
