I tried the bowl method just now and it surprisingly didn't hurt at all. At least until I started moving my eyes around after a few dunks. Next I'll try this at the pool and see how it goes.

Coming from a swim team swimmer with oodles of goggle horror stories, the gogills probably aren't really that great if you're going more than a few meters deep. Those little tiny air pockets compress and sqeeze the living daylights out of your eyes. I'd rather have slightly stingy eyes than bruised suction raccoon eyes

I just recently made my own fabric tail. I also used a pretty stretchy lycra fabric, but it turned out alright! It slides a little bit down my legs, but I probaly didnt make the waisband fitted enough. I didn't make a typical mermaid shaped fluke for it, because I'm using a finish wave with it. Instead I opted for a overall rounded shape, but with tendrils flowing from the bottom of the fin. This allowed me to have a completely open bottom, and just an invisible corner stitch on either side to keep the skin in place over the monofin. The light fabric makes some beautiful whispy flows in motion, and makes the tail look almost like a betta or siamese fighing fish. I think it's really good having as open bottom as possible with ligher and stretchier fabric

This person is doing very well, and seem like they know what they are doing, but not every monofin you make is safe. I recommend buying a fin from fin fun, they aren’t too expensive and are very durable. No hate to the creator, just giving a disclaimer as somebody who has been doing this for a few years. Please don’t go make a cardboard fin and think that is is safe. You can’t use any silicone either. Not trying to ruin the fun, just giving a safety tip. This woman has been using silicone and mermaiding for a while and her fin does look pretty stable, just giving a reminder to do research first.

I wonder if this would work on the old vintage barbies. I bought second hand dolls and their hips are lose. I'll see if this will work... if not then idk how to fix them...

What fiber do I need to do this, please? Can I use wool yarn? It would be so much more practical to use the method you show than to try to order pre-made mohair wefts through the mail. The possibilities would be endless. All I would have to do would be to go to a yarn store. Thank you for your video.

when I was 5 I opened my eyes under water for the first time. Honestly, it was so clear and easy, I was shocked. As a 19 year old, I still do it. It’s never hurt. Sometimes i do rinse my eyes with regular tap water to make sure it doesn’t burn but I swim professionally as a diver now.

Holy crap I think you judt solved the problem I was having in understanding hoe to sculpt the scales. Now I'll use the plasticine to make the scale sheet, and pour the silicone in directly.

Why do you use resin to make scales, instead of silicone?

I just learned that there is medical grade silicone and commercial grade silicone, which is toxic for the skin. What brand of silicone did you use for this project?
