- Today we're gonna talk about cheap knockoff mermaid tails, SHEIN stealing from FinFun and more. Why are these tails dangerous? What to do if you already have one? Where to buy a proper mermaid tail on a budget?
Mermaid tails are gaining more popularity especially with the summer season coming up. With that there's a big chance for all of the fast fashion brands and cheap Asian wholesale sites to sell a lot of unsafe cheap pieces of fabric with stolen designs, low quality print and questionable monofin choices.
You, your family and friends are going to see the ads for these products on social media and everywhere you go online and some might get tempted to buy one for themselves or their kids (which is even worse).
That's why I made this video to warn people about the dangers these tails can cause as well as the moral part of this problem.

My mother bought me an AliExpress mermaid tail before we knew anything about Finfun, how they stole art and safety. I was in the ocean and the plastic, thing replacing the monofin broke (and yeah, it didn't had power to swim either). I've never been more scared in my life, the plastic was sharp and broke in half in my feet, and the tail was imposible to take out. Thankfully I was near the shore and kept a cool mind. Imagine a child in these things

I thought it was nice that you included the part about if you have a bootleg tail dont feel bad and you can use it for other projects. That's good advice and also very understanding. I got one a while ago before I really knew about all the good brands and that knockoff tails were a thing. i have better tails now and dont really use the bootleg tail, but I did pay for it so I do want to do something with it cuz i dont wanna waste money. Might use it for a silicone tail base now!
It’s unbelievable how compatible can get away with this. Some are dangerous and these companies rip people off and it’s really just bad. I was gonna get one of these tails for my bday .. thanks for making this video so I know.

I say don't ever let kids use monofins because how dangerous. After H2O went huge, drownings from kids and teens went up. A majority of kids aren't strong enough swimmers to use them safely. I'm a competitive swimmer and regular monofins are super hard to swim in because you are not used to swimming as one leg.
I have a bootleg mermaid tail and its really bad. Im 13 and half and im a strong swimmer and do great in mermaid tails. I decided to buy one because it was pretty but the monofin was heavy and after a minute i felt exhausted. I got a fin fun straight after and it did great! If only i had seen this sooner.

Thanks I appreciate your video and for telling us about our safety but I also wanna say there’s this place called kidsHOO and they sell them mermaid tails and when I got one around the waist it was too thick and the fin was way too small just just letting them know that

OK so there are safety issues with these kind of tails. But why on earth would i use them then to put tons of time into adding scales to them (using them as a base as you suggested). Isn't there the same problem? And if it's just drainage wouldn't adding proper drainage make them OK to use (if someone already has one)?
Hi, thanks for your feedback. If you are making a silicone tail at all you should be well informed and trained in monofin swimming. Of course you would make sure to adjust the fabric to fit your body before putting silicone on it. I didn't specify what method you'd use to do that but as you might have seen I made my hybrid tail flukeless using mahina as a fluke. This is more to reuse the fabric and not the tail design. Also to cover up stolen art work and use a proper monofin and not the useless fins that come with these. Covering fabric with silicone will make it way less stretchy so this will reduce drag. Hope this makes sense. Once again you should only be reusing one of these tails if you know what needs to be fixed with the bootleg first and not just cover a bad tail with silicone.
