"You're possessed by your possessions, you're drowning in them." Holy shit

This is such a great line. I never fully realized the way people just accumulate so much STUFF that they don’t even need or want until i had to clean out a family members house after they passed away. It totally changed my perspective and I’m a minimalist now so that nobody ever has to deal with all my crap lol. Major unburdening

I'm like this, my mother has this problem for/with buying clothes, or don't want to get rid of clothes she bought/wore 10+years ago etc, like she got fatter with the years, does she really think she's still gonna fit in that, the arguements i'd had with her, just bloody put those clothes it a bag, so I can fill up my trailercar, and bring it to the dumpster ... for re-use, recycling .... my dad more like with stuff, he used/took from his dad when he passed away 10year's ago, like we're not using these things anymore from the 70s-90s ...
Oh my gosh. She was in bed knowing it had to get done, then cracked a bad joke, then stalled while they waited for her. She's like my dad!! God bless her children, especially her son who isn't afraid to lay it all out, it's exhausting to have a parent like this.
Laying in bed at mid day!
She’s probably super depressed. They both must be. That junk would depress anyone
Wow these are my parents aswell I cleaned their shit up I get blamed for throwing their useless treasures and bring junk back in now they have rat problem he doesn't think it's funny now

You cannot rent a home from someone and live that way, it isn’t yours.
The weight of all the junk in there is destroying the floors and walls.... major structural damage
Caitlin Hicks I completely agree!!
Caitlin Hicks Should do inspections yearly. My landlord is always in my house
hauha I mean without the landlord they wouldn’t have a place to stay. It’s not being a bootlicker it’s being honest. You cannot treat something that isn’t yours that way. The way she has all of that stuff piled up could ruin the floors or the structural integrity of the home. And on top of that her landlord is her sister. She’s really doing her sister dirty by treating her house that way.
TeamGoodVibes818 probably thinking her sister wouldn’t kick them out
Sadly, my mother was a hoarder. Until, unfortunately, she lost about 80% of her possessions due to a flood in our home. It was a very difficult impact on her and for us too. As a family, we had to encourage her and support her throughout the way. It was sad. After 4 years, thankfully, her hoarding has gotten better. We only try to buy things that we truly need. But dang, it’s crazy.
Unfortunately? That flood sounds like a gift from God! Insanity!
I actually appreciate how the landlord spoke to them about cleaning up, she wasn't being loud and aggressive or trying to embarrass them, I can respect that
Her own sister by the way.
And they weirdly both took it as she was “threatening them and not helping them”. She wasn’t “threatening”. She was waking them about what needs to happen and giving them both a dose of reality or they will ever both die in that place or flat out be evicted
She has some nerve to smoke in that fire hazard of a home
Yeah
Honestly
It would be one way to clean it up. 🏠🔥

Hoarding is a mental illness. I'm not excusing it nor is that babying the person but no mentally stable person would see towers of trash and just shrug it off and keep going. A traumatic event or events kickstarts it, depression masks the person from noticing it and then...things snowball. And when you decide to just throw everything away, you're throwing away the person's safety net and comfort from that trauma. One good way to handle it is to bring out loads of items from the house and try to get the person to only keep a few things and have them let go of the rest. That alone can be hard, they're going to resist and want to still keep everything. You have to kindly remind them that that's just not possible. There's going to be frustration and tears. There may even be a point where the person says "Fine, just throw it all away!" Don't do it. I'm sure the person understands the bare concept that the hoarding is bad but if you just throw it all away, it's going to create resentment, resentment creates more hoarding later.
It's a lot. It's not easy. Each hoarder is different, some can let go of things easier than others but it's not something that can be changed in a day, a week, or a month. At least, not the mental part of it. And most importantly, for what was lost, there needs to be something to fill the gap, which is where family and friends are going to be important. As it's an illness, the person will need to be frequently checked on and someone to help nip it in the bud if the hoarding (almost inevitably) begins again.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone voice such a natural view point on a show like this. Not saying whether it’s wrong or right but the way the son showed how he felt was perfectly normal human behaviour.
Ive dealt with family like this, you just have to say you wont throw anything important away and just throw most of it away and they wont even notice.
They actually DO notice what's thrown away that they didn't ok!...You would be amazed!..Even if some thing is just moved, they know!..What other people think is 'important" to keep and what the hoarder thinks is "important"are two very different things!
it depends on the person, a lot of hoarders would notice and would get really upset
How do they have pets? This is beyond hoarding, just pure mental illness. I really hope they get help
Hoarding is a mental illness, though it’s often accompanied by other mentally illnesses.
I feel bad for pets or children in these situations, doggo deserves a good home :(
Yeah it’s usually a response to some kind trauma. :(
Danielle Rendon I have hoarding tendencies (never acted on them because I have two dogs and three cats and I intend to continue rescuing/fostering animals so I need to make sure my home is safe and sanitary for them❤️) and it stems from my mother forcing me to pick out favorite things of mine after she would get mad at me, then forcing me to throw them away. She would take stuffed animals (I had just a few and genuinely, deeply cared for them because they were my “animals”) and would give them away to our neighbors. She made me throw away so many childhood treasures that I still remember and miss. To help me make sure I don’t give in, I have to keep up with my meticulous organization (everything has its place and is returned by the end of the night). I also have ADD so it’s VERY easy to forget things because I shift from one project to another a billion times. It’s heartbreaking to think of what they must have gone through. It’s such a horrible illness. I hope everyone is able to heal from this.
That dogs turds are all over that house
Even though Roy may seem like he's being mean/harsh, that's the kind of behavior that is needed in this case. These people are delusional about how bad things are and they NEED a reality check
ThatSpicyFoodMoron He’s not harsh at all, thats how people should react to things like this. Not sugarcoating or trying to be respectful, this is beyond mad.
Lord knows I'd be far more harsh
That may be your opinion but it is not based on reality. Hoarding is a psychiatric disorder that requires therapy. Shaming someone doesn't solve the problem.
Sarah pauline 💯 anger will not help her. It’ll make Roy feel better to vent but that’s it. We r looking at mental health issues here
@@sarahpauline4904 I totally agree, and I do realize that she'll need a lot of therapy/psychological help, but in some cases, the person needs a bit of a harsher "push" to START getting that help. It's kinda like that Dr Now guy on my 600lb life. He is kind to his patients and tries to be understating, but at the same time he's honest with the patient, and let's them know that their weight IS a problem, and that he doesn't care about their excuses. And those people have a psychological disorder too
Finally a reasonable person who doesn’t coddle and justify and talk about feelings and doesn’t pretend that a crazy person isn’t crazy...

THE exact same situation with my wife's detached grandmother. A very long and unfortunate story short, we got to the point that she evicted us from our house that she gave to us, (no joke whatsoever) and she started filling our house. Dolls, trash, crates and crates. She now owns 2 houses, a storage locker and 4 sheds. Each property if over 2100ftsq. All full.
She had a very toxic personality constantly trying to set each member of our family against one another, she would always swear blind she didn't, as she'd sit on her mobile complaining. She constantly abused her power of owning the house making us and my wife's siblings fech her food, items, meds, anything; but always with an excuse for her to not leave the house.
After she got taken to the hospital twice in one week, 2 solid mental break downs, she lied to the nurses, we had no say, she came back and blamed us.
We got evicted by her.
She threatened us.
She accused us.
She now lives completely alone. Mostly in anger. Since she has called our relatives several times, acusing us of stealing both money, her valuables and her properties (she ligit said we stole a 20ftx20ft garage. We drive a sedan and currently live in a 20ftx10ft small house. We wish we had the better.)
Unfortunately that situation can consume lives, and a dominating personality, when amplified will weak havoc in its wake. In our case we're still dealing with the fallout.
Be careful out there. Be safe

We had a tenant that was this bad. It took 3 months after he gave us his 30 days to clean up. We finally had to get a dumpster tell him to throw shit away and had to completely rebuild the inside of the house. He argued with my husband about a box of rocks.
@@ladylowman6403 lol
Yup, it's an insurance job waiting to happen!
@@ladylowman6403 “about a box of rocks”
Was your tenant Hank Schrader?
The son is so so right. And I love his blunt way of addressing things. We all could use some straightforward tough love now and then.
“You’re insane”
Exactly
It’s nice to see someone (the son) tell it like it is.
I love the son so much periodt
I feel so bad for Jessica. When Roy didn’t really want to help, you could tell she broke down, like a last cry for help, last resort, last mental support. She’s stuck with her mom literally, it must be horrible living in conditions like that.
Roy started to break down too... I wish he could just take her but I think if he could he would...
She isn’t stuck. She chooses that.
Adult social services should take Jessica at this point for her safety
She is an adult so I dont think they can the dogs how ever should be removed.
viciouslady yes they can that is what adult social services is for. To protect adults who can’t protect themselves or make wise choices. Similar to the elder abuse offices.
She’s not mentally handicapped, she’s fully understanding of what’s going on
SkullCandy hoarding is a mental illness. Hoarders don’t see the mess the same way a normal person would, it’s a compulsion that can’t control.
Amclaren2009 incorrect. Hoarding is not a mental illness. Hoarding is a symptom of mental illness.
When I’m not motivated to clean my room I watch these and I instantly want to clean.
This reminds me of my grandmother's place. My grandmother lives in an apartment, and she has a serious hoarding issue. Luckily, me and the rest of my family have cleaned out a large amount of the junk from the apartment - though there's still a lot to be done. This is what I'm afraid of happening to her. Reality checks are *needed* in these situations.
And it's a poor dog in the middle of the misery! People cause problems and the dog can't do anything about it. Poor, poor dog 💔
emzie ikr sad 😞
@@kimf442 It breaks my heart 🙁💔
So sad. But what about the daughter I can’t help but feel the mum treat her like an other company pet. She much feel so stuck. It so sad
In the actual episode the counselor makes them do a fire drill twice and neither time did they even try to grab their 3 dogs.
Red Divinity People like you always find a way to shove their opinions into things.
Just sleeping in the middle of the day when they should be doing shit
Just a day in the life 😉
Same
I feel personally attacked
Day in the life: sleeping in the middle of the day being lazy
Okay but they’re like a whole mood though
I’m cleaning my house at the moment in preparation for moving… I like watching these shows as it’s making me feel very grateful I have few Possessions
They really need help with this. My mom was a hoarder and it really embarrassed her but I didn’t judge her for it but I felt bad for not being able to help her. I really hope that they will be able to get the help they need. God bless them
Jessica's mom: keeps everything
My mom: throws away everything she sees
Literally
Same
Same, it gets annoying though
@@justinterry7853 Lmao, honestly. But I'd rather have her throw something minor away than live like this.
@@evalinarosenthal3236 yeah, it depends if what is being throw away though
he seems like a lovely guy who can put his foot down, but is there really anything that can be done with a woman who says "im sorry you feel that way"?
No.
I mean being assertive isn't the same as being rude
Honestly eviction is probably one of the best things for her. Sometimes we need to be forced to reckon with our issues.
Her son is a real one.
