    Alternative Character Interpretation:
-Quite a few fans assume that Gabriella has trust and Commitment Issues about getting close to people. Despite the fact she and Troy adore each other, she's repeatedly thinks he's going to hurt or leave her, and pushes him away in every film because of it *(In #1 he does genuinely betray her so fair enough, but in #2 she leaves over something that was mostly Sharpay's fault and #3 Troy doesn't do anything at all.)* Then add in that she has a Disappeared Dad, was ostracized at her previous schools and apparently never had a permanent home (living somewhere longer than a year) and she borders on Broken Bird.
Gabriella: I'm a lot better at saying goodbye than you. I've had a ton of practice.
-Likewise, Troy seems less like an uber-popular Big Man on Campus and more of a Broken Ace worn down from years of being East High's golden boy. Every film has him breaking down over disappointing his Dad or friends, often while Chad and the Wildcats sit there criticizing him. His delight at Gabriella liking the "real him" makes you wonder when he'd last been allowed to just relax. One tumblr post argues him attending Berkeley was less about Gabriella and more about escaping everyone's expectations.

Vindicated by History: Although it was a success, it was despised outside its tween demographic and mocked on the internet for being such a blatantly idealistic story in the oh so cynical late 2000s. Not to mention movie musicals were still far from mainstream (it was common for trailers to hide singing to disguise that the film was a musical even as far as the early 2010s). Years later, it's remembered far more fondly by the now grown-up children and teens who loved it in their youth. The popularity of musicals and appreciation of the messages about toxic masculinity have only helped the film age very well.

As the franchise grew, musical loving adults had a fondness for it, too. Vanessa & Zac were featured in the Grammys after HSM 2 came out. And 2008/2009 was a big year for musicals - Mamma Mia, Dreamgirls, Hairspray, HSM series. Musicals had a BIG comeback from the early 2000s. Adults, old and young, ate it up. Also HSM 1 made hella money in sales and views & maybe that's why executives loved it so much.... the movie definitely helped create a huge musical resurgence.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about the whole stick to the status quo scene, and how is not realistic, is too exaggerated, etc but I think people don't pay attention to the details. the nerd girl and the skater boy are both doing activities opposite to the image they "should" convey. dancing like that would be seen as something that "good girls" shouldn't be doing, and playing a classical instrument doesn't add to the "rebellious" image of someone that it's "cool" and doesn't care. as for Troy and Zeke, they're 2 guys from the sports team wich for some people is the peak of masculinity for some reason that just told everyone that they bake/sing in musicals, two things heavily associated with women (and gay men). this would be a huge deal for teenagers, ESPECIALLY in the 00's

Nickelodeon also produced the similar Spectacular!. Ever since, every most live-action fare on Nick and Disney Channel has featured it’s young stars recording music.

    Strawman Has a Point:
-Chad's rant at Troy in 1 about how becoming a drama kid would lead to him fading into obscurity, citing Michael Crawford as an example of someone who would never be a celebrity endorsement that appears on the front of a popular cereal box is portrayed as this, but theater is expensive and the lower-income masses are lucky to either afford to go or get their hands on free tickets to stage productions, therefore only the one percent would be familiar with places like Broadway. Not only that, but it has been traditionally very hard for stage actors to transition to mainstream acting, like on television and in the movies, so if Troy were to become an actor, it could be a struggle to garner recognition by the rest of the world, if he doesn't know the right people that will get him there.
-You can't really blame Troy's dad and his team getting concerned that his attention was pulling away from them, considering they were the ones that elected him as captain and that this hobby could lead to a good place in college and a successful sporting career. However, it clear he and the team have been putting a lot of pressure of on Troy for a long time, without considering what he actually wants.

Also, Drew Seeley did Zac’s vocals on this soundtrack and went on the HSM tour with the rest of the cast to do the Troy parts. And yes, Vanessa did all of her own vocals. She’s definitely grown since then.

Zac's voice was mixed in with Drew Seeley's in this movie with Drew singing the majority of it. Zac's voice can be heard in the beginning of start of something new, the breakdown of getcha head in the game and the first verse Troy sings in breaking free. When he's almost caught "practicing" the song in the movie the first time he is really singing the same first part of the song with Drew's voice being used for the rest.
Zac was going through puberty so his voice wasn't ready for the range that the songs in this movie required, Drew's voice is higher than Zac's. However, Zac was the better actor and had better chemistry with Vanessa helping him win the role.

@@VColossalV but it was filmed months earlier and everyone’s voices are different the voice can still crack well into someone’s 20s. I know for singers if they don’t have a good coach it can take years to control it again afterward. I was a big fan of Usher’s in the early 2000’s and he’s talked about that before and when he signed Justin Bieber and Justin was going through it after his first album he quickly got him his same coach so that he wouldn’t struggle for that same reason.

This was filmed in Utah, and yes, it's a real school! It was mostly filmed at East High School in Salt Lake City, with a couple of exceptions: the auditorium/stage and the music room were filmed at Murray High School (in Murray, which is about 5 miles south of Salt Lake). The reason for this is that East High was completely rebuilt in the early 1990s except for the auditorium and the gym (which were both built in the 70's after a fire pretty much destroyed the entire interior). So the main building looked great and modern but the auditorium looked very 70s. So they filmed those parts at Murray High, which had also been recently rebuilt. The real East High does have red/white as its school colors, but the mascot is the Leopards rather than the Wildcats.
Funnily enough, my dad is an alumni of East high and I and my siblings graduated from Murray, although none of us attended in the current buildings.

This movie made such an impact on my life in so many ways(I was 12 turning 13) 1. It was the comeback of musicals and made me want to join theatre when I got to high school, 2. All the role model characters at the time for teen girls were either blonde and blue-eyed(I was brunette and had dark brown eyes) or were seriously confident and spunky in nature...I was not, no matter how hard I tried to gain confidence, I was just gentle in nature and a bit timid, also a goody-two-shoes and Gabriella showed me something else-- I saw myself(except for the super smarts lol) 3. Since the age of 5, I started recognizing that I started to care too much about what people think and that I wasn't a natural dancer or singer...but when this movie came out, I started learning all the dances and songs and would perform them with all my friends even in public! and 4. Zac Efron became my first heartthrob-- not because he was cute(and he was btw lol) but I fell in love with the character Troy because he wasn't the typical attractive jock you see in movies-- he was real. I'm now 28 and still waiting for my Troy-- the person I can connect on a deeper level with and find comfort in, the person who brings out the best in me, and the person Jesus made for me and made me for him.
Btw Answers to your questions and random facts(lol yes I was obsessed):
    1. Drew Seeley did most of the vocals for Troy except for the end of ''Star of Something New'' and the reprise he sang outside Gabriella's bedroom. Zac was the only one of the main cast who had no background in singing or dancing but after the movie, he trained for both Hairspray and the other two HSM movies.
    2. The guy dancing on top of the table in the caf you were impressed by was the assistant choreographer.
    3. and yes, theatre teachers are just...like...that. As Billy would say ''Shoutout to the woman who played Ms. Darbus''.
    4. and if you want a good faith film check out God's NOT Dead #Bingers

When I was young, I was semi obsessed with these movies (by the time 3 came out I was OVER it all, mostly cuz I think Zac had done a couple things that were just basically disney films with adult humor while trying to "break out" of the Disney mold.) My brother thought it was SO FUNNY to get me a themed gift bag that SANG BREAK FREE WITH THE SLIGHTEST PUSH OF A BUTTON and a card that SANG all in this together any time it was opened the SLIGHTEST bit. 🙄

The second in my opinion is the best of the trilogy. Billy, Drew Seeley (Male lead in Another Cinderella Story) was the voice of Troy.

He wasn't the full voice -- he like helped Zac Efron sing and then in the other films Zac did it by himself

@@anyssaanderson454 Zac sang the first line of Start of Something New and that's it. 99% of the movie was Drew.

@@meganedwards1039 Drew sang the majority of the time but Zac's voice can be heard in start of something new, getcha head in the game and mostly in the beginning of breaking free.
