Thanks Mike!! I bought it, now waiting for it to arrive. Can't wait xd
This was extremely helpful in deciding between the oxygen pro and the gxp. Thank for going into detail about the keys feel which was my worry. I need the 2x pedal input and I like how the gxp can have it's own power supply so i'm going with the gxp. Cheers !
Thanks so much for this review. Greetings from Chile.
Thank you very much! I bought it and it's the best midi keyboard I've had in 27 years!
Great review. I just got the GXP49, digging it.
A very informative review. Thanks, man.
Thanks for reviewing this model
Thanx. Your rewiev helped me make up my mind.
Ive had mine for about 6 months too. Its still a great semi weighted keybed the slanted keys don’t effect play at all. The thing i like about it too is you can set the transpose + - buttons to change midi channel so you can map loads of ipad auv3 to different channels and toggle up or down in a live play situation.
How do the black keys perform in terms of velocity sensitivity? Can you play soft notes without issues such as ghost notes disappearing etc? Thanks.
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 yes velocity is fine on black keys. Just the black keys are angled with less surface area than a real piano. Some passages in classical music mean you move your fingers arching over the black keys towards the back of the keybed which can be a problem with where the contacts are. But for general use its great.
@@wilkopiano I ordered it so I will have to give it a try for myself to find out about those angled keys. To be honest with you, coming from the Keystation 88 which I absolutely hate (it has ended up in the garage ever since I bought it pretty much and I went back to an acorn masterkey 49 - that is how bad it was), I think so long as those velocities are okay I will be able to adjust to it.
I sometimes play some classical stuff but to be honest with you I always try not to play too far back on the keys because it just annoys me, and I feel like I can never get as much control that way anyway. I know you are "supposed" to lol, but meh. I am an unconventional kind of keyboardist. Hahaha. I suppose I will find out though. If I cannot get on with it though, I can return within 30 days thankfully.
Anyway yeah, thanks for the reply. :).
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 you’re welcome. The keys feel definitely grows on you. So yeah give it a go. It’s never going to feel like a kawai full weighted piano key-bed but then again those dont have aftertouch.
Your channel is AWESOME, both for what to buy and what I shouldn't. Was looking at the GXP49 vs. the Panorama T4. I need a more portable keyboard than my 20 lb 20+ year old Alesis QS 6.1. This helps a lot. I like semi-weight, and want velocity and aftertouch, but don't need the extra controls, since I use an Atom. Think I'll go with the GXP61 since it hits my balance of price point and size.
Hey John, great review! How would say the keybed is compared to novation launchkey?
Great review! One question: What's the polarity of the pedals? I need to buy a damper pedal but I don't know what polarity is needed. Thanks in advance!
I've spent like 2 weeks trying to find a midi keyboard that will suit my hybrid needs and the GXP61 fits the bill. Congrats on being pretty much THE ONLY videos about the GXP on youtube. Even Nektar only have one promo video, it's seriously bizarre.
I already have a small Akai MPK Mini 3 that I bought for making some basic beats and bass lines... its fine for what it does but I wanted to take things to the next level to start learning piano. 88 keys are too big for a desk so 61 fits the bill. Trying to find a 61 with a reasonable keybed seems to be like hunting a unicorn. I came to the conclusion that for the price and performance of this GXP series it might not be my endgame keyboard but if it keeps me busy for a couple years then that's great. I really didn't want to get a clicky/super light plasticy keybed like the Akai again so I'm hoping when this arrives it's as good as the very few reviews I can find!
Good work my man, watched a few of your videos in my search.... thanks for all the info out there!
Did you get it? what do you think about it ?
@@wolfexer8250 overall I think it’s pretty good for the money. I thought it was going to be a bit more weighted, it’s almost like semi weighted. Kinda halfway between dinky plastic keys with no spring and a weight, semi weighted.
If it was twice the price I might think twice about it but it’s a fair deal I think. No complaints really
@@fenixtech1342 So is it semi-weighted or synth-action?
Hi.. I am choosing now between m-audio keystation 61 mk3 and nektar gxp61. What would u recommend me as for piano player?
I bought the GXP61 as my first keyboard for learning and eventually making songs 2 days ago, I'm not sure if I'm missing out by having less knobs and no pads but I can always buy a seperate thing for that I suppose.
Overall I'm liking it a lot. I don't know if its thanks to the aftertouch but i've already improvised a few neat sounding melodies with basic chords :)
SOOO much better than clicking around on the piano roll, notes make sense in a different way when it's physically infront of you I guess.
I can't quite figure out how to make it switch banks in serum with the shift keys but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.
If I didn't see your video I would have gone with m-audio or something, which AFTER I bought the GXP, I started to notice comments about how they break down pretty fast or one of the main features stops working or something after a short while
Cheers!
Have you ever used Nektar Impact LX88 ? Wonder how would you rate it.
Looking forward to you making that Nektarine video!
Hello, the sustain pedal doesn't work for me - no function. i work with logic pro / omnisphere etc. do i need an adapter or a special sustain pedal?
This is definitely on my short list after watching your review.
The newest released versions of this keyboard come with a slim version of Bitwig and full versions of three excellent Cherry Audio plugins, two synths and one effect. 😊👌
I got GX61 but how do I get the wheel on the top left to trigger signal? How activate that?
Help! I just bought a GXP88 and am in the middle of interface he11. What are you running yours into? The Nektarine software that comes with it is pretty bad; huge latency running into Reaper (DAW) and it appears that Nektarine will not work as simply a tone generator.
I'm looking for an 88 key midi keyboard but don't use a computer (just hardware synths)
Is there any way I can set zones/splits to play multiple synths on the keyboard without the need of a computer?
Hello John... Strange question (maybe).
If I have the gxp 88 master keyboard with its expression pedal connected and another keyboard above with its expression pedal connected, and I have both of them connected to a macbook with mainstage, is it possible to use both expression pedals to control parameters of a patch used only in the GXP? To control separately the volume of two layers for example, or to use one to control modulation? So the question would be: does mainstage sees these two expression pedals like two assignable controllers in the whole system? Or each one can only be assigned only to control sounds on the keyboard they are connected to? (I hope the question is clear!)
Hi John, does it work properly with Ableton? I mean all the buttons and knobs
Hey bro, thank for all the good content.
I’m a hardware synths guy I’m looking just for a GOOD keybed with aftertouch. Witch one do you recommend? Nektar GXP or M-Audio Oxygen Pro?
Oxygen pro
Hi John. How do you feel about the weight of the keys? I had a Nektar LX88+ and the keys looked very plastic. The weight of the keys is recommended?
this one and m audio keystation mk3,Is the feel difference between them worth the $150?
thank U! :)
@John Mike As you tried both: which keybed feels better to you, the one of Oxygen Pro by M-Audio or this one (GXP) by Nektar ? Because both are clicky clacky, which one is more annoying? I'm deciding between both controllers and the keybed is pretty important to me and I don't need all the faders and functions on the Oxygen.
Thanks in advance man!
Oxygen is a bit more clicks clacky but it offers way more control than the Nektar
Is this in any way inferior to the LX88+ besides less controls? Mostly I'm talking about the keybed. I love the minimalistic design of this keyboard.
I prefer the feel of this better than the Nektar…
Well the LX88+ doesn't have aftertouch....
I have a M-audio Keystation 88 semi-weighted and I hate the feel / noise of it. The black keys don't register properly sometimes with soft notes etc. How does this one perform in such cases? Cheers.
They are much quieter
Hey man this is off topic, but what ipad case you have there its dope lol
How is the velocity curve? Ive seen some videos saying the velocity can be jumpy with the other Nektar Midi boards
This one feels a bit more balanced out than the other Nektar boards
I'm between the GXP88 and the LX88+. Does anyone have recommendations? The GXP88 has aftertouch but the LX doesn't. However, if I go with the LX I'll get all the controls, pads, and their preset config for Mixcraft DAW integration. And I'm not sure if playing a lot of virtual drums on the keys of the GPX88 would be practical or if the pads on the LX are worth it for a fair amount of virtual drumming. I only tried the LX25+ briefly so idk. I'm kind of leaning towards getting the LX88+ and then later on saving up for a GXP88, 61 of 49 model to get the best of both worlds. I'ver never used aftertouch before so I'm not sure if I need it but it seems like a useful tool to have.
I wish Nektar had a line called the "LXP", a mix of the GXP and LX, where it would essentially be an LX88+ but with aftertouch added. I feel like that would sell pretty well.
Thank you for the details! Are the keys clunky noisy?
Not as much as some others are
Thank you brother! Do you think the komplete A61 keys feel better than this one or about the same? For overall playing synth /piano etc…
So do you think the keys are ok for organ or would you say they're too heavy for that?
Naa it would do great for organ
How does the GXP88 compare to the Studiologic SL88 studio?
Two different Keybed types...SL88 is a fully weighted Keybed...GXP is semiwighted
off topic, sorry) please help me choose my first keyboard. For home studio. M-Audio Oxygen 49 MKV
or AKAI MPK mini mk3.
I have experience playing the accordion, and I think I would like to play the classics sometimes, but the classics use more than 49 keys(( And the pads, knobs and other additional details are better with akai. I think the pads are important, although I have never touched them lol. I don't know which one to choose.
p.s. I'm not going to play classics, I'm taking it for production, u know this cool beatmakers stuff...uh(
I would personally go for the full sized keys on the oxygen
KLANKY KEYS!!! I had the Nektar SE 61 Impact (older model) but somebody smashed it. I think its keybed is better, going to reorder the new model of it, probably crappy kes like on the GXP61, really terrible.
You should do a video about what the ideal keyboard would be.
From what I've gathered from watching your videos and my wishes, the list for the perfect controller would be:
Wooden keys
Hummer action
With after touch
MIDI 2.0
USB-C
Bluetooth
Faders
Knobs
16 pads
High resolution color displays (like the NI KOMPLETE KONTROL S49 / S61)
Lights on keys (again like the S49 / S61)
Physical pitch and mod wheels
And available in three colors, (standard black and white, all black edition like MPK Mini MK3 and all white edition like the Arturia KeyLab Essential)
Versions: 88 keys, 73 keys (like Studiologic SL73), 61 keys, 49 keys, 37 keys (like the AKAI MPK Mini Plus) and 25 keys
Yup the keys of the VPC 1 with the Screens from the Native Instruments S88 with pads from the MPK Mini…USB-C, Midi 2.0, Bluetooth Midi and painted Hot Nord Red!! 😂…not too much to ask! 😅
@@Johnmike Hey, one has to dream it for someone achieve it. Can't be otherwise :P
@@Johnmike YES I Agree VPC1 Key + Native Instruments Screen Compatibility + Dexibell MOtorized Fader.. + White/ RED
Hello! You sold me on this keyboard! Ive purchased it, however, I am having issues getting sound to come out of my studio monitors. I am using it with a Presonus Audiobox USB 96 out of two studio monitors. I followed the instructions to set it up from Nektar but it’s still not coming through my monitors. Any idea why?
Also, I did use your affiliate link! Thanks! 😊😊😊
Thanks for using my link!!! But as far as the audio it’s probably something on your audio interface and not with the keyboard itself…maybe try another interface..changing cables etc etc
I wonder if there is difference about key feeling between GXP61 vs GXP88
I just got the 61 key the other day and I’m very surprised by the feel. I assume the keybed is the same as the 88 key. I just came from the nektar t6 which has a similar keybed but it could be me but something feels different. The keys do make a lot of noise in a quiet environment but are actually more expressive than some of the other midi controllers I’ve played. They have 5 velocity settings. So far in spite of the sloped keybed and noise this is definitely a good buy it someone wanted sustain, expression, and aftertouch for the price. I would say this is a good all rounder plain keyboard. I’ve got to experiment more with it but was also shocked I can scroll through iPad app sounds with the transpose keys. It also seems to allow bank changes on iPad if setup right. It was changing the banks on my hardware keyboard also.
does the piano have built-in speakers or do you have to plug some in seperately?
Is that mixer pillow custom?
Naa got it on Amazon

I CANT GET RID OF LATENCY WHAT DO I DOOOOO 🥺😭😭😭
If I were to buy this keyboard, lack of controls (knobs and faders) would be the main stumbling block for me. In this regard NEKTAR IMPACT LX88+ has the upper hand.
The Impact would be perfect if only it had aftertouch! What an oversight.
