I really like where Thermalright are going recently, lots of options at really good prices, these make the Vetroo V5 look bad value!
Shame about the slightly deformed heat pipes on this one, but matches and in some instances will beat the Assassin X SE 120 RGB • BEST Budget CPU Cooler...
Either one is a great choice and really it is going to come down to local pricing and availability, and will be fine with CPU's up to around the 150w package area. So all 65w and 95w CPUs and maybe some 105w at a push

Thank you for the nice technique for tightening the screws more evenly! Didn't know that one.
thanks! glad it was useful
Thanks for doing this video Mike. Watched it while installing this cooler. No problems. I couldn't believe how much easier these clips are compared to artic freezer 34 clips. Lol. I connected the argb cable to the controller on the back of f15 and the argb looks great with the gamemax fans another job jobbed 👍
Glad it helped, and yes the clips although not perfect are a huge improvement on the Arctic ones
Nice one Thermalright......this kewler looks great and the price is even greaterer !!!! I know that there are other coolers near this price point but with this quality of build (and it looks nice too) then it looks like its a great option for the budget build. Thanks Mike and Kath (and Thermalright).
lots a competition at this price point now in the cooler market, and seems that Thermalright and id cooling have taken the place of cooler master and arctic
Love the simple installation and everything kept in seperate bags. The height is big plus yet easily clears ram slots. I use ballistix ram which i believe is low profile and avoided recent deals for fear of fowling my cooler! I wonder if temps are affected by the offset design of the machined copper pipes. Looks good and price fab! Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath 🐈👍
great cooler! and very cheap
Thermalright are solid in most instances good to see they are still trying to better their last Versions
yeah they don't seem to be able to put a foot wrong at the moment
Thanks Mike great video
Excellent video
Thermalright has been doing an amazing job over the last few months when it comes to CPU coolers and fans. This cooler here looks like it will be the perfect match for an all Intel budget build I'll be building over this next month.
I still can't believe I bought my Peerless Assassin for 39€ at the start of the year, absolute bang for buck right there! It has increased a bit in price unfortunately, but Thermalright has been getting plenty of positive reviews everywhere around CZcams.
yeah they are doing a great job and the coolers are all easy to install
@@mikesunboxing do you think this would cool an overclocked 7600x
@@ItsaNoahYes sir
My son needs a new cpu cooler. This one should do nicely and great price too. Thanks Mike! I also used your promo code to buy a Windows 10 pro key last week! Super cheap and I would buy it again! Thanks!
Glad it helped those keys are great value
Really impressing coolers line that thermalright has. I tried sio far the Peerless Assassin 120 se, frost commander 140 and I have to install the frost spirit on my 5950x to replace the nh-d15 that will be used for another project later. Solid cooling so far 👍
yeah they are really taking the fight to Arctic and Coolermaster
@@mikesunboxing dont forget noctua. I can definitively live with 1 more degree for half the price. That's what I have with the frost commander vs the nh-d15 on my 5950x
Got one of these for a Ryzen 5 4500 to replace the stock cooler ... never gets above 60 degrees even during burn-in/benchmark/stress-testing. Tacky packaging, but very impressive for the price.
And all those extra FPS from the shiny lights, too!
Did you mention it's also available in white, which is nice?

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
For those people who want tension to be more even when tightening, don't do 3 turns, do two. BUT, what you actually do it for the first one, do 2 turns, for the 2nd screw do 3 turns, and this gets them to where there's are one turn difference. THEN alternate 2 turns. When you get to the end if you're about one turn off when they become completely tightened you did a great job. Congrats. These seem to require less turns so I find this a little more important. I have damaged a CPU before because the tension was too uneven. Bad stuff.
What did you damage in the CPU?
probably the era in which CPUs did not had IHS. @@roideus
I just hand tightend both sides slowly at the same time lol then use a screwdriver near the end to finish yet not overtightened.
Own D15 and Peerless assassin. The build quality between Nactua and Thermalright is clear. But the thermals of these budget coolers are incredible.
I agree
Hey Mike, keep up the amazing work! Do you think this cooler could handle decent overclocks on older cpus? The likes of i7s 2nd/3rd/4th gen
Yes, definitely
I have had 2 of the Thermalright PS120SE twin tower model - not the Peerless Assassin as this has extra heatpipes - low temps on the i7-12700k and i5-13500 under load.
Curious-what are the actual temps for each? Thank you.
@@PapaMav mid 20s to low 30s idling or general desktop use, not much over 72 under sustained load. I'm also using a lga 1700 socket frame which may help
@@vijinho thank you. Excellent temps in my book.
wait so 120SE could handle i5 13600Kf
@@tahapower Yes, no problems still using it with a 13600k since 6 months or so.
Pretty nice low budget cooler…I really like for $13 more the AK400…keeps 5900x very cool
AK400 is a decent cooler for sure
Just grabbed one for my 5600, been looking for a bit and the price on Amazon just came down to £14.99 for the ARGB model (same price as non RGB) so I grabbed it
that is a cracking price, hope you like it
@@mikesunboxing got around to installing it yesterday, really happy with the way it looks and performs! decent upgrade from the stock cooler
That the £17.49 on amazon one? Awesome on my old 3800xt I put in a work machine for photoshop...
Took the argb fan off and kept for my own system and it's running a wee pair of 120m uphere's
very nice
Looks solid! Which one do you prefer: this one, the DeepCool AG500 or Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition?
deepcool all the way
@@mikesunboxingWow, never thought the AG500 would be better than the Hyper 212. I'm definitely going to get the AG500 for my first build.
An absolute no-brainer buy for a cheap system!!
yeah it really is, you can't go wrong, Arctic and the others had better watch out
nice video. but for some reason intel decided to not put a stock cooler in i5 13600kf. so i came across this video. and do you think assassin king 120SE could handle i5 13600kf?
should be okay with the new intel enforced bios limits
Just bought one of these on amazon for silly money £15 on prime special 2 day deal. Will be fitting it tnite in my f15 case should look good. Is the thermal paste that comes with it any good?
happy days
Hi, I have a question : can you measure the red rubber spacer for AMD CPU ? Because I plan to buy this CPU cooler but I don’t want red into my config. Thanks 🙏
12mm tall
i have a question about the fan. can i replace the fan with an arctic p12? im doing a blacked out build and i want to know if i can replace the fan. looking at this video i think it cant because of the connectors and this is a dumb question but i want to be sure
yes you can
My motherboard is also from msi but mine doesn’t have those screw holders for the metal stands that hold up the fan
it should have if it was new?
For the price it's Good enough, Thanks for the Review Mike
can't go wrong for the money
can you overtighten the cpu cooler? I noticed you do not try to tighten until it doesn't move anymore
I usually go until I hit a hard stop and that seems to work okay
between the thermalright assassin king 120 se and the thermalright assassin x 120 r se which one would you recommend ? (I'm trying to save as much as possible but I don't want sacrifice too much peformance due to cutting corner and I don't plan on doing any overclocking either)
they are pretty much the same thing really
@@mikesunboxing no performance differences what so ever ?
@@user-fc1kv7oy1cyes the king has 5 heat pipes which was my go to when deciding between coolers in that price range
I want this cooler because it can fit my generic case but the price though...... Assasin X 120 refined is cheaper but its too tall for my case......
Where I'm from the King seems to be slightly cheaper than the X variant, making it the obvious choice.
So what you are saying is that the Assassin X 120 is essentially the same as this but a tad cheaper? Im kinda torn between the x and the king. Trying to save as much as possible. This will cool a 10500. But if I swap for a 11700k down the road I want to know if the Assassin X could cool it without sounding like a jet.
What are your recommendations?
PS. I'm not into OC.I find the benefits of OC minimal at best.
yes they are all pretty much the same thing packaged slightly differently, get the cheapest one or the one that you like the look of, you can't go too far wrong
Love the quick response. Best reviewer on CZcams. Most dont even bother answering. Big 👍
@@dallev79we try and answer all questions if we can
I have the 120 X on an i7 11700KF, and if you have Intel's Power Limits enabled so that the CPU draw 125W, it's still pretty quiet, and only gets up to 75C during a stress test. If you disable power limits and the CPU wattage goes wild, then it thermal throttles in about a minute, blowing past 100C.
I have an Assassin King Mini and it's mid. I'm get maybe to 36-38 idle if I'm lucky. Hopefully my pc can fit in the peerless assassin mini if it's good. My concern is it will be too wide. It's already close to the RAM. This one in the video is too high up in my mid tower. Mini is already super close to the glass.
edit: Just checked. It's definitely too wide. Maybe it would work if I didn't have a mini motherboard but that that's not the case. Rip. AIO is probably my best option when I have the money
I looked at the specs. It's going to be too wide. RIP. Also, no one has reviewed the mini. I can't tell if it getting into the high 80s, low 90s during gaming is a fault of mine or the cooler itself. Maybe it's the paste. I know I put plenty or maybe it didn't make enough contact with the CPU. I don't have anymore thermal paste to reseat it. I do know I have plenty of airflow in my case
edit: there's a chance I may have used the wrong standoffs since mine didn't have labels. If was separated however
I have a question please, i wanna get this cooler but I dont have an argb header just an rgb 4pin header (asus prime b450m a ii) how do i plug it ?
you can buy a standalone ARGB controller with remote control, or just dont have the lights on
Very good !! Friend, both coolers are here for the exact same price for me. What would be the best purchase? Thank you.
which two are you looking at
@@mikesunboxing Hi. Assasin King 120 SE and Assassin X 120. Which would be better if both are at the same price ? Thanks again
@@raonialbues They are essentially the same - go by looks/personal preference
Im using this on a 5800x running PBO w/ an undervolt and I'm sitting at 34*C when browsing and max 68*C under heavy load. Absolute wildly respectable temps for a $17 cooler on a notoriously hot cpu. My case certainly helps (lancool 216). This honestly proves the an AIO is extreme overkill in most scenarios
yeah that is great temps there! nice one
Tnx for info, just deciding if I should buy it for 5800x
I’m confused can I use the 1115x preset for the backplate for Lga 1200 motherboard?
yes you can
Im split between getting this or AG400 plus that have dual fans. Is having dual fans will give some advantage on a single tower cooler?
the only advantage with coolers is the physical mass of the metal, the fans are just passing air through. choose a bigger heatsink over dual fans
@@mikesunboxingthanks for the answer. Looks like im getting TR Assassin King SE without the rgb for my ryzen 5600
@@raycw Hi. Friend, what was your stress test result?
I have a question i have this cooler too but It is Always color yellow and Not RGB
What motherboard are you using?
Hey, is it okay if i bend some of the heatsink where the clip rest?
sure as long as it doesn't start whistling
I bought this cooler, set it up and connected the ARGB plug to JRAINBOW2 on my MSI B550M motherboard. But after turning on the computer I'm getting no RGB on the fan. How do I enable RGB?
Edit- Seems like I need to use a software like OpenRGB. Working now.
Glad you sorted it. I would have expected default rainbow pattern even without the software
@@mikesunboxing Me too. Strange that it didn’t happen.
Hi, how many clips to fix the fans are there?
unless i specifically showed it there are only two.
Will this cooler fits in the mini itx Motherboard?
it will fit the board okay, but the case might be a problem depending on it's size
@@mikesunboxing The cabinet that I will use is made of open concept wood that I produce myself, so space in the cabinet will not be a problem. My concern is whether the cooler will have space and not bump into the memories or the heatsink for the I/O connections.
Would you recommend this cooler for an Intel i5 12600 processor, or a 13th generation i7?
@@francopieruccinifaria9454 that should be fine then

Hmm. Mine is 80c highest, or 81 after 5 minute testing multicore using cinebench. Now I'm wondering why is mine 10c hotter. Should I be worried about that or is that ok ? It never went over 81c
The fan is rite above my ram, and has to sit a tiny bit up, maybe thats why.

you can choose any colour that the ARGB controller you use can provide, the fan is not the limiting factor the controller or motherboard you plug it into is
TR assassin king 120se or deepcool Ag500?
ag500 is better and more premium product, both ar good in their price classes
Can you choose the RGB color?
Yes you can choose any colour or patterns that the controller you use can provide
what is the TDP of this cooler?
they don't specifically state one. And TDP ratings are not really able to be compared between brands or even CPUs
