Looks a handy one to have about for a quick cooling fix! You always have such an intresting mix of stuff on your channel! Nice one, you two!
Thanks 🙏 very much appreciated
This is a really helpful video, I will be building my first gaming PC in 3 days and this is the fan I ordered so, thank you for posting this video... Keep it up
Glad I could help!
Interesting review of a low priced cooler. Fitted the 224 non Argb version to dter's pc when installed R5 2600 upgrade. Decent quality, east to fit, looks great and in her restricted case does the job! Albeit that was £29 off amazon and again decent reviews from usa. Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍
cheers Nick
Great video thanks Mike. There is a 5% discount voucher on Amazon UK today.
That is awesome!
I received the SE214XT today. The mounting brackets have been updated and the cooler now supports AM5 processors too. Great video.
thanks for that, appreciate you taking the time to comment and clarify the AM5 mounting
Do you know how change color of fan
I've been recommending this cooler to people based on reviews, and it's great to see you to thoroughly go over it as you do. Last night, I took a chance ordering the SNOWFAN ZQ04 5-heatpipe 180W cooler for $24 shipped from Newegg. No reviews that I can find, but the specs and RGB fan look good. Gonna pair it with my new Ryzen 5600/6650XT build. Love your content Mike!
thanks and let us know what the cooler performs like
Let us know how it is!
@@mikesunboxing Pretty impressed by this SNOWFAN ZQ04 cooler on my Ryzen 5 5600 (PBO). Heatsink has some weight to it with good build quality, 5 direct contact copper heat pipes, and comes with lots of mounting hardware and a proper tube of thermal paste (I used Arctic MX-4). Fan is PWM and quiet, has 11 ARGB LEDs which are smooth and vibrant, and feels solid with a unique design, although may look kind of cheap to some. After a fresh installation, CPU is sitting idle at 32c in a 19c room and reaches 62c max during a 17min OCCT power stress test. Instructions did not come completely in English, but it was easy enough to mount to AM4. Fan brackets were kind of hard to get on, as is the case with some metal wire retentions. There are vanity caps on the top of the heat pipes, which some seem kind of loose, but they don't come off. All told, it cools well, sounds good, ARGB works well on my MSI B550M PRO-VC WIFI motherboard, and I think it looks pretty cool. Excellent value for $18 + $4 US shipping from Newegg (took 7 days though, also available on Amazon). I'll post some pics to the Discord.
@@camotech1314 Posted a short review in this comment thread
How was it?
Just got one of these coolers and it’s pretty nice and for a bonus, they’ve revised it with arctic styling mounting and it has extra fan clips so push pull is now possible
cool will check that out
I bought two of these in December and they are AM5 compatible now.
Had the white one of these on my 5600X and it worked perfectly, with very decent performance. Definitely the best cooler for 20 quid!!😍👍
Great to hear!
What is a quid? Same thing as a pound? Like dollar and Buck?
@@johnbowser2612 yes it is
Thanks for the review! I've heard good things about the SE-224-XT, so I was curious about the 214 as well. Seems like it does pretty well! Especially for the price!
Just a quick note: The website now says this is compatible with AM5. And I generally think coolers that use the stock AM4 backplate are compatible with AM5 as well.
If it uses the stock AMD AM4 backplate (that comes attached with the motherboard out of the box) then it should be compatible with AM5 motherboards as well. The space from the motherboard PCB to the top of the CPU, as well as the screw placements and thread pitch/density are all supposedly the same from AM4 to AM5.
I've heard it said that only AM4 coolers that have their own custom backplates are incompatible with AM5 (as the AM5 backplate supports/attaches not just the cooler mounting hardware, but also the CPU socket frame itself, and thus the backplate can't viably be removed on AM5, or your CPU socket would fall out...).
For example, according to HardwareCanucks, out of Noctua's products, only certain low-profile/small form-factor coolers use custom backplates for AM4, and those are the only Noctua AM4 coolers incompatible with AM5 motherboards. HardwareCanucks did a whole "AM4/AM5 compatibility addressed" video or some such title.
thanks for the heads up
I just installed one of these and it worked great. Also, mine came with four fan clips.
Very nice!
Great option for a budget system, any Ryzen 6 core variant or something like an Intel 12100F would be very happy using one of these. I prefer oversized heatsinks to keep things quiet, so I'd recommend a max TDP of 80W on the CPU for optimal temps and noise levels.
awesome advice
Sounds like a real black friday deal 😛
Mike's Review is Worthy of a Support comment. Like & a share 🙂
good price, good cooler
Hello and thank you for the video. Quick question, should the fan light up if it is connected only with pmw cable?(static light) cause my rgb header is 12v only and the fan requiers 5v. The fan spins but no light. Got another pc with a similar cooler and that one lights up with only the pmw connected. Thanks again and keep up the good work.❤
no sorry it needs data to be sent to it or it will not illuminate
Question please I’ve just bought this yesterday can I plug the ARGB into a hub instead of direct to the motherboard as I’ve only got one port I’m guessing the fan speed is controlled by the cpu fan header separately thanks as always great video
yes that is fine, as long as the fan power / rpm is plugged into the CPU header
i have the same cooler but i put 2 arctic p12 fans on it,great little thing
much improvement?
Mine's arriving tomorrow 😁
Are the heatpipes copper all the way? Or just at the base? (Asking since they're silver-colored upwards)
they put a nickle coating on them so it changes from batch to batch
I use this cooler with a ryzen 7 5700x and running cinebench my cpu never pass 70° and is summer, with 31 degrees outside. I love this cooler
it is pretty good and great value
I dont know if it's changed since then, bu i got mine like 3 days ago, and some of the things you didn't like they changed.
Like now, there are 2 sets of clips, and the clips have small hooks so they fit well in fans.
awesome
hope you can make a review regarding Scythe Kotetsu Mark 3
i'll see what i can do
Just bought this as a cheap alternative for my build till I finish rebuilding the rest of my PC. I needed a new motherboard and CPU. So I got a Ryzen 5700x hopefully this can keep it cool enough
should be okay, undervolting a little would be helpful
How it's been? I have the same CPU
@@jeff_gone Not a single issue at stock temps. Runs quite and have little to no issues with overheating at all. It's been a good little cooler
Really informative video, unfortunately I'm from Chile and I didn't find any shop bringing ID cooling products. Can you recommend me a few options for Ryzen 5 5600x? Sorry about my English 🥺
let me know what shops you can use over there and we can see what is available
@@mikesunboxing I found a lot of Cooler Master and DeepCool options, some 'be quiet' and just a few Noctua (very expensive) :c
Getting one for my 3600xt i bought on facebook marketplace hope it performs 🎉
should be great
thermalright reduced the price of the BA120 at 24 dollars at amazon its a 6 heatpipe single fan tower cooler, the Assasin King 120 without rgb at 20 it have 5 heatpipe.
Just watched your review of this SE214XT ARGB Tower Cooler. I'm thinking of putting this in a budget build I did for my wife. It's a system she uses just for email and internet. I used an old MSI B250 PC MATE motherboard that I don't believe has any 3-pin 5V RGB connectors on the board. If I left that connector unused and just hooked up the PWM connector to the board would the fan still light up in just the standard RGB configuration? I built the system in a Montech X1 case which just has a rainbow RGB light up theme so if this cooler fan lights up in just a standard rainbow configuration using just the PWM connector that would be fine. Thanks!
no the leds need to be connected to a port or hub to produce light sorry
I'm sharing it because it took so long for me to find. A tower cooler that's under 120mm has a PWM four pin 92mm fan, four heat pipes, fits AMD and Intel and is at 118mm tall. The Thermalright X 90 SE, yes I know Thermalright is from Taiwan but Gamers Nexus has giving their cpu coolers good reviews. If someone is after something a little more for a high-end build with two radiators the Thermalright Silver Soul 110 and the Noctua nh-d9lN look cool. Not tested any, wait on my Assassin X 90 to arrive from Amazon.
thanks Steven
Hi Bro, you would reccomend this or the hyper 212 fron cooler master? Its for a ryzen 5 3600
Either is fine
I'd have to say that in this day and age, great value for money is, unfortunately, indeed an exceptional thing.
Which is quieter and better performing on a 5600x between this one and the Deepcool AK400? Also, a bit of a dumb question maybe, but does the noise solely depends on the fan? Can I change the noise level by simply replacing a "noisy" fan?
ak400 has a slight edge, and yes a different fan can make a lot of difference
Recently bought this cooler for around 20 dollars since I saw my 5600x was reaching 93c with the stock cooler when playing cyberpunk 2077 I immediately stopped everything and researched a nice budget air cooler hopefully this can reduce my temps significantly
should make a big difference from the stock cooler at least 20c
@@mikesunboxing actually its even more from 85-90c to 55 in elden ring. I did not expect it to be so stressful to change from stock to se214, since my motherboard was already in the pc the backplate kept falling off whenever i tried to install it so I taped it to keep it in place, I removed the tape afterwards of course
@@toad7395 Glad you managed to fit it and get good results 🙂
Спасибо, отличный обзор! Да в описании на упаковке присутствует русский язык,так же мы видим английский, японский, корейский, китайский и возможно испанский
спасибо, что сообщили нам, хорошего дня
I’m saving up to buy a liquid cpu cooler aio and wanting to have a air cooler better than the stock but not to expensive as im saving up for an aio
Do you think this is worth it while I save up?
i read the comment before seeing what video it was on and was about to recommend the cooler in the video, so yes definitely
Perfect, Thanks so much
It's my understanding, that if it uses the original AMD backplate, it should work on an AM5 board. However, I would be concerned if it could handle the extra heat. AM5 backplates don't come off, keeping some AM4 coolers from working, if they have their own backplates.
the extra heat is in the IHS and doesn't easily seem to transfer out due to the solder, so it should be fine up to a point, 7700x is probably the limit though
ever watch@@mikesunboxing
Ever watch Jay? He's been working with Thermal Grizzly. He pealed one ,and took a lot off of it. SCARY!
I feel like this cooler would have been best during the Ryzen 5 2600-3600 era. I don't think it would do too well on a 5000 series cpu over locked at all. Maybe stock speed, but still.
I have used it on both a Ryzen 5600 and 5600X. It works as well as the Vetroo V5 but I got it for around $20.
@@mikeadams8027 is it overclocked or running at stock speed?
I run it on a 5800x. Works great
I think as long as you temper your expectations it will be fine for 5000 series of a certain TDP range
No it does completely fine on a 5600X even with PBO+200Mhz. Stop overspending on CPU cooling, most cheap coolers will do completely fine for CPUs on up to 8 cores.
Would this work on a MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi Gaming Motherboard with a 7800x3d?
this is a CPU cooler not a GPU cooler, but if you are asking if it will fit, yes it will unless you have vertical mount GPU
I prefer the ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO - Tower CPU Cooler with BioniX P-Series case fan in push-pull, 120 mm PWM fan $ 45.00 to $55.00
understandable but twice the price for roughly the same performance is a bitter pill to swallow
@@mikesunboxing well the Arctic has 2 fans so the price is ok too , I have build 3 computers now with them Arctic and some how this looks like it is copied. ?
Nice video! Funcionara bien con un i5 12400?
Va espectacular. Te recomiendo agregarle un segundo fan para poner ambos en modo push-pull y es la gloria, y como si fuera poco además es barato.
Very good tower cooler, I've installed one on my R5 5600X, great thermals.👍. Thanks
it is a really good cooler for the money
I got one for a 5600G Build as I cant stand the wraith coolers. The black version had sold out on Amazon at the time so I got the white version.
Totally agree about the quality of the fin stack, its very thin and is easily bent, and the fan label wasnt completely centered on mine.
It's great for budget builds for lower TDP CPUs. At £20 theres nothing better at the price point IMO and you probably dont get significantly improved performance by spending £5-£10 more.
4:34 the fan here connects to the 3 pin ARGB, but my port is used by DEEPCOOL CF120 RGB splitter. It uses a different 3 pin, where they are aligned in the middle? What is this connector called? Is it really not possible to make them work together?? should i look at a different cooler?
pretty much all 5v argb coolers and accessories use the connection shown in the video, it is the deepcool set that is using a lesser used setup
i bought a RGB strip that uses the same connector as DEEPCOOL. and i *daisychaned the 3 deepcools and 1 rgb strip* @@mikesunboxing.
are you aware of that connector adapters. i dont even know what that is called 😥😥
@@PCs454 i think it is called a JST plug, i might be wrong though but it looks like it
would you reccomend this for i5 13600kf ?
no not really even a 140mm tower on my 13500 hits 80c under full load
Hello, My Motherboard has CPU fan, but It doesn’t have ARGB pin. Does the cooler still works if I only plugs into CPU fan? Sorry for my bad grammar 😅
it will work as a fan just no lights
@@mikesunboxing ty
Do I have to connect the rgb headed or does both have to be connected?
you can use just the PWM for speed but if you want lighting the ARGB needs to be connected as well
can it stay blue? if yes, why didn't you show the color options in the video???
the colour options are dependant on your motherboard or hub the cooler is attached to, no point me showing my motherboard options if people don't have the same board
Good luck to England in the match today lads. Rooting for USA.
it is a pretty even match i think
@@mikesunboxing Indeed, as even as can be.
dumb question from a newbie here... do i have to remove the mobo when installing this?
not necessarily depends how good access is the backplate and around the cpu socket area
how do you change the colour on the fan?
motherboard ARGB controller software
Would this cooler be good with an 15-13400f?
yes i think it would do just fine
Would this be enough to cool the i5 13600kf?
not sure sorry, this will do up to 150w not sure what the 13600Kf draws under load overclocked
Hello, I bought this and I was wondering if anyone has a solution to a problem I encountered. I’ve never used one of these CPU coolers before and basically the fan is the wrong way, but it looks like the fan won’t fit if I try put it the other way, and I can’t tell if the heat sink is also the wrong way, since I can’t tell if it’s symmetrical. What should I do? Should I remove the whole cooler? I don’t have any thermal paste to reapply and it’s going to be difficult to try to remove the cooler while it’s in the case
you should be able to install the fan facing any direction, maybe join the discord to post some pics so we can see the setup and what is going on
@@mikesunboxing I managed to fix the issue. What I meant by the wrong direction was that the fan was taking air in from an area that pointed to an exhaust fan, so there wasn’t enough air coming into the cooler fan, and it was trying to run at 100% basically constantly to keep the CPU cool. I managed to just about fit it on the other side and it’s a lot better, but there’s still sometimes a weird low pitch sound, and I wonder if there’s smth wrong or if it’s just that I’m not used to the sound that this cpu cooler makes
Mike i was wondering if youd help me put some pc parts together for my son , i was thinking £500-600 mark if possible :) im hopeless with pcs
