    StarClan's writing was very confusing from the New Prophecy to Omen of the Stars, perhaps to the point we might be able to consider them to be evil?

      the fact that Leafpool was just so okay being dead was kinda unnerving. It's different from say Star Wars death, where one is united with the force, but here, Death seems....just the same as living. So what's the point other than you can't get hurt or sick except surprise you can get hurt and killed. Like. Come on. The more we learn about StarClan the more horrible it is.

      I have a theory on that actually, you know how cinder pelt leaf pool’s mentor knows how she dies long before the battle with the badgers even starts, cinder pelt was just ok with that information and she accepted it when it happened. When it was leaf pool’s time maybe she accepted too like cinder pelt did because she knows she’ll see her loved ones again. Ik it’s still kinda dark but that’s what I came up with

  • @mykittenisaferociousnugget

    My take on this is that yellowfang and spottedleaf were the ones involved in the three. They are the ones that make the most mistakes. People want to control what they don't understand so why can't the cats? Feathertail is dragged into this by spottedleaf. And yellowfang drags Micah in too. The evil spottedleaf au is intertwined with this. Rock is definitely involved.
    Squirrelflight and leafpool were done dirty. They should repay squilf by letting her become leader and making ivypool her deputy. It's the only way.....

They have cat ages sort of just ehh... so...

  • @dovewingseyesaregreen5664

    It'd be interesting if this were true. Maybe Midnight could have seen what StarClan was doing with LeafCrow and tried to get them back to the clans before it was too late for them to fall victim to whatever whim of fate that StarClan was about to cruelly put them on, but it was too late since as we all know: clan cats reproduce by a girl cat and a boy cat that love each other usually very shallowly looking each other in the eyes when the nursery demands babies be in it. The way kits are made so quickly feels like it's StarClan's will to put the kits in the cats rather than an action they have any sort of control over. Most I can argue is Ferncloud who I buy the theory of her noticing Leaf was pregnant and chose to have another litter just in case, but I can absolutely see that being an act of StarClan as well to ensure the three survived after they had to change parentage. It could also explain why Foxleap and Icecloud look nothing like either parent, they were last minute creations and could have been meant for a different couple (BrightCloud's original second litter maybe? The Erins do like kits after breakups as we learned from SquirrelBramble and Amber, Dew and Snow didn't come until way later) that may have either ratted out Leafpool or refused to raise the kits (I doubt Bright would do either but if I were StarClan, I would feel Fern was the safer option between the two since she's the perma queen).
    Somehow that turned into a weird rant about how kits are made and I'm sorry for the weird tangent but I had to vocalize a thing I never thought about before.

  • @laraendlight9887
    @laraendlight9887 Před rokem +31

    When you make you own AU with your own ancestors and post-life realms and people ask you what's wrong with Starclan: this is probably on top of the many reasons Starclan looks every book more like a group of assholes having fun watching the living struggles (after all Bluestar wanted Firestar to ignore Skyckan's ghosts while knowing what happened in the past) and tormenting them as long as things go as they please.
    Aside from lying about infertility to force Squilf to take the kits and then judging her for lying like they don't "live" with Yellowfang or don't know what she did, there's the good ol': "Mental instability and pain aren't an excuse to kill, Mapleshade. But an obsessed psycho ready to kill and hurt the object of his obsession clearly loved too much and pain is a perfect excuse to abuse your victim if the reason is """"love"""" like poor Ashfur's case" (I'd really like to know how Yellowfang would have tried to excuse it if Ashfur tried to even the stalking and the r-word).
    Or: "No Juniperclaw, you must rot in hell for trying to murder a Clan out of anger for your evil-sister'a banishment, not succeeding (and so not murdering anyone) and repenting yourself by saving two lives in your last moment. You can't ask for forgiveness, you should have thought about it before! Now let's go say hi to our pleasant Starclan member, the mother who isolated and verbally abused her son 'cause he just got "ugly" after almost dying and never once asked for forgiveness in life! And Tom! Dear old Tom, such a nice cat!" (Thanks Kate for telling us that Tom walks in a "kittypets sky where good cats will teach him to be gentler" after saying that there was possibility he could abuse the kits to have control over Turtle Tail and that he had a sense of owner ship over them and not affection and that's why One Eye hurting them was unacceptable).
    Let's add Oakstar (the Warrior Code still asks to help kits, he knew they were too young but banished them and the mother only for who was the father, not for the Half-Clan things, he literally says: "It had to be him?!") and Darkstar (he literally had the kids to be buired in his territory knowing that the mother couldn't just come in to visit their graves, it's just pure torture on someone who already bares the guilt for the accident)... Nightwing should be kicked only for how stupidly forced is the plot-point for him to find out the kits were half-clan ("The elder told me they can't jump that far and since this is something only Thunderclan can do, not like EVERY fricking cat can pounce on a prey, I followed you just un time to see Appledusk being nice to you!")

    My theory about Starclan is that, to put it simple, their not perfect(iam not sure the Erin's ever even insisted they were). Starclan is simply where cats who did right in their lives go, as opposed to the dark forest, they still have lasps in judgment and are susceptible to making the wrong decisions, but they ultimately try to do what is best, and what they believe is right. I will never be convinced they are evil or outright bad. Fans can think and say whatever they please, but if the Erin's say starclan are the good guys, then we have to accept it, it's cannon.

    • @starstorm1267
      @starstorm1267 Před rokem +11

      I agree with some of what you say, but I really wouldn’t call StarClan “the good guys” for there are some cats in there who really didn’t do the right thing in their lives and still went there after death (Like Rainflower who abandoned and emotionally abused/neglected her son because he got disfigured, and don’t forget about Ashfur who was still in StarClan for awhile before going rouge and against them).
      To me, StarClan is a place filled with cats that they accept as “qualifiable”. Trying to explain what is “qualifiable” to be accepted into StarClan is flimsy to say the least. Because we have cats like Onestar who abandon Smoke and Darktail during their time of need and deliberately lied to his other mate Whitetail for years about his secret double life and still went to StarClan, but Frecklewish gets to go to the Dark Forest for not risking her life to save Mapleshade’s kits from drowning in a flooded river which was something she had very little control over.
      StarClan is definitely not perfect, and definitely has relapses in their judgment constantly. I say what they really need to do is stop interfering with the lives of living cats so much, and maybe the Erins should add in a purgatory for cats who can’t be decided on which afterlife they should go to depending on their actions.

    • @TheAshfurApologist
      @TheAshfurApologist Před rokem +3

      @@starstorm1267 I agree, there are definitely some cats who I find questionable about being a loud to join Starclan's ranks, with rainflower being one of the best examples, but I guess being an emotionally abusive mother(to one of her sons, she fawns all over oakheart) isn't bad enough to condemn her to the dark forest. Onestar makes more sense though, he was a toolbox not doubt, but he ultimately sacrificed himself to defeat darktail and saving the clans from the Kin, that's gotta count for something. However all that does is prove the point that the starclan cats are flawed, but I still see them as the good ones, because the dark forest does exist, and those cats are clearly evil.

      I don't consider Starclan evil either, but they are hypocritical and self-righteous. I guess they have to put on an act of always knowing what they're doing in order to avoid panicking the clans who look to them for guidance but, even when they've clearly made a mistake, they refuse to own up to it. I'd have more sympathy for them if they would just admit that they don't always know what the right thing to do is.

      I believe that anything that dies goes to spiritual place, some cats found a place and started putting borders for it, hence the creation on star clan. Somehow they divided the land so that morally lacking cats are banished to the other side, hence creation of the dark forest. This means starclan exist just because the dead cats made a terriotery in afterlife, nothing else special.

    It makes me uncomfortable that the writers would rather make Yellowfang look worse by having her lie about Squirrelflight's fertility than leave her and Bramblestar's relationship 'incomplete' (ugh) by not giving them their own litter. If it was so important that the opening protagonist of AVOS be the son of another protagonist, Lionblaze was right there and Cinderheart was already trying to have a litter with him. In fact it would make the timeline less wonky if Alderheart's personality and story line had been given to one of their children because we're supposed to believe Dawnpelt's kits and Snowbird's second litter, who were born in Bramblestar's Storm are still apprentices by the time of his first Gathering.

    Most prophecies always seem to have some "hidden price" to the cats that they're about, or those around them. Bluestar having to give up her kits to become deputy, Brambleclaw having to kill his half-brother to protect the clan and save his leader, Leafpool believing Jayfeather's blindness as a punishment and so on
    It was always my personal theory that Leafpool and Squirrelflight's misfortune in life was Firestar's. He's the only cat, that while he's gone through a lot, none really seemed like a "price". Bluestar was always going to die, to become leader, the leader before you needs to die.
    So I just always thought his price of being a prophecy cat was the suffering of his unborn daughters.
    Everything is awful for them, and we never see his perspective, but I have to imagine seeing your daughters go through _so much_ pain and unable to do a thing about it....had to have been hard on him (and Sandstorm)

  • @lalas181
    @lalas181 Před rokem +23

    Honestly, I wish they'd left StarClan as a more mysterious, nebulous thing. I never needed or wanted explanations for how kitty-cat heaven works. If we know exactly what their deal is, then anything pertaining to StarClan may as well just be happening with living cats instead.
    I also think that the reason Yellowfang does all the dodgy things is because in the first arc she's somewhat of a voice of reason. She played a mentor role to Firestar while she was alive, and usually following her advice turned out well for him. With her being perceived as a snarky but wise grandmother, it makes sense that the authors would use Yellowfang to try and do the things they found to be "reasonable" for a StarClan cat to do in the plot. Want to clear a cat's name? Yellowfang's a pretty good judge of character, so just have her say that the character was actually a decent person all along! Have some hard news that needs to be delivered for the plot to progress? Yellowfang's no stranger to that sort of thing, have her rip the band-aid off and provide a solution so that they can make the most of it, just like she did for Cinderpelt! The problem with this is that the books are written inconsistently, so while this idea works in theory, in practice it just turns Yellowfang into the opposite of what she was in the first arc. Instead of offing kit-killing tyrants even though they're her own flesh and blood, she's defending a cat who was very intentionally murderous on multiple occasions and was abusive to his ex-partner and his apprentice because "he only loved too much" and "his emotions got the better of him". The author might've thought it was reasonable at the time, but since it isn't actually reasonable the character being used as a mouthpiece for the author just looks like a callous fool who either hasn't been paying attention at all or someone who just... doesn't _care._
    Again, this could've been solved if they'd kept to the Arc 1 approach to what StarClan is. Giving vague prophecies causes less characterization trouble than telling someone they're infertile just so they'll adopt their sister's kits. StarClan is a world building detail and a plot device. Making them actively be people around the living outside of things like leader ceremonies was their first misstep.

    I think the old cat should be removed from the StarClan court. I love Yellowfang as a character, but still she has a very outdated mindset. She thinks all cats have to go through incredible hardships to succeed, but they don't. One might as well live a quiet and happy life.

    Starclan ordered Leafpool and Squirrelflight to lie, which they did. Then Starclan gets mad because they follow their orders and almost doesn't let them into Starclan. If I were a clan cat, I'd choose free training over manipulation.

    I really appriciated Leafpool (and Squirrelflight) a lot more after Squirrelflight's Hope. Starclan's 100% put them up to this. They forced and manipulated them to take this part and have this be their destiny. And then they have the gall to ask why they should be allowed to stay instead of going to the Dark Forest due to how their life played out and the situation they were in?
    The cats judging them had done the exact same things themselves, without Starclan pushing them and blocking every other path, and yet instead of bowing their heads, apologicing and treating Leafpool and Squirrelflight like heros, they act high and mighty and question if the sisters are worthy of joining them at their side instead of banishing them to the Dark Forest for choices the Starclan cats themselves set up for and made for them with 0 regards for the two sisters because it was oh so important to all the clans and Starclan itself?
    This book really made me dislike Starclan, and honestly I would see it as a win at this point if the series ends with the clan cats tearing themselves away from Starclan and actually lives their own lives. If we ever does get that warriors movie, I would see it as a positive change if they stick with keeping Starclan how it was in the first 6 books (if they get more than one movie).
    I'm convinced that they only made Ashfur the main bad guy because the fans never got over their decition of putting him in Starclan. Can you imagine if the trail scene had involved Ashfur as one of the cats shown as worthy of staying in Starclan with the, hypocrit, judge cats while they looked down on and asked Squirrelflight and Leafpool to pleade for their case in order to convince them?
    Plus the scene where Mothflight says that it didn't have to be Jay, Holly and Lion, and that they could have chosen any cats for the prophecy. 1st, so that a new power they apperently have that came out of nowhere. 2nd, so even when the option to choose a warrior with a mate in the same clan was there, you still decided that it had to be Leafpool who needed to be given the task that goes against her way of life as a medicine cat and! a clan cat? That really didn't make them look any better.
    I remember thinking about all the reasons Ashfur shouldn't be in Starclan years ago, and later that day someone else had sent a Facebook message to Vicky, bringing up almost all the points I had been thinking about as well. Vicky said that the post almost convinced her that Ashfur should have been in the Dark Forest, and hey, what do you know, in the next arc, they have him do more stuff so that they can now justify booting him out of Starclan. Although this opens the can of worms that, apperently it's really easy to just lie yourself in. Some moments of groveling and saying you're oh so very sorry, and Starclan will apperently go "oh ok then, no worries. Welcome in", and just sweep any action under the rug. Plus it's the fact that when he 1st appeared as a Starclan cat, Starclan claimed that they had no say in who got there or not, just that the cat's spirit will find its way if it's worthy, so Ashfur apperently didn't even have to convince anybody.
    If Starclan's only! interaction with/words to Leafpool during this entire time had been "Follow your heart", I could have understood why they would have been dissapointed in Leafpool at the end (and how they could have felt that they obviously meant follow your heart towards your work, family and your loyalty to your code). However!, that would not change the fact that she absolutely didn't deserve a trail and risk going to the dark forest, seeing how Bluestar and Yellowstone had done the exact same thing, and was still seen as these big figures in the afterlife. Heck, Greystripe was seen as worthy enough to instantly be guided to Starclan after having done the exact! same as Leafpool, and Firestar is the most praised cat of all, when he broke the code and went behind his clan's back several times before he become leader (with his only reasoning being that it was the right thing to do/the better outcome/for the greater good to do so, and apperently Starclan was fully onboared with him all those time, cause it's never showen being brought up/never showen it being thrown in Firestar's face as a negative example about him). The Erins seriously, down right ruined Starclan, and most likely only put that scene in cause they wanted one more moment of drama/tention.
    The fact that the Erins sat there and thought "Cat who birthed 2 of the crusial cats for the clans continued survival/exsistance, cat who devoted her her life to her clan expect for 1 day w/Crowfeather and when having to give birth, cat whom found the place that makes it so we're able to actually watch over and communicate with the clans, cat who was loyal to us and followed our every word/order even when it means living in pain and judgement for it. This! cat, totally needs to defend why we shouldn't chuck her with cats who wanted to destroy and/or control the clans and had no problem leaving a river of blood behind them in order for them to reach their goal. Cause obviously! her actions are so much worse than ex-es that wants to axe off kits that has the mix of the blood of a she-cat he liked and a tom that isn't him, and! his leader because of that fact, a cat that let a rival leader take over her clan and axe off any of her clan mates he saw fit, and a cat that gave his full support and freely/gladly followed two! leaders in their quest to destroy/control all the other clans for their own sake/for their own, destructive, selfsentered wants". 🙄 Sure, that makes perfect/logical sense.

They were more mysterious and vague, they felt like an afterlife. But from POT onward they just feel like an annoying clan that just has higher power. They don’t feel mysterious and spiritual, just.. there. Judge mental and stuck up. Idk. These days the idea of Starclan puts a sour taste in my mouth.

    Like ? No ? Starclan was NEVER there to help out Leafpool , they almost sent her in hell for having the kids (They almost sent Squilf in hell too when they are the one who forced her to take the kits)
    Honestly , I feel like the Leafpool situation could have been resolved way more easily. I think Leafpool should have came clean to her clanmate since the beguining. It's not like they could have kicked her out , she was the only medecine cat and her kits were prophezied by Starclan (That did say that they were going to support Leafpool)

    While true the prophecies are older than the clans, I still think the prophecies are StarClan's fault. Not the cats directly, but the ancients who are making the StarClan cats directly meddle with the living. What's the point of these ancient spirits sending prophecies when StarClan isn't supposed to meddle? And even if they weren't directly named StarClan these ancients focus way too much on cats when there are, in all honesty, more important predators that can be focused on. Cats offer nothing to the ecosystem.
    I also feel we can't use TPB StarClan as proof for anything, because, from my memory at least, they function vastly different than what they do Arc 2 and on. There's no mystery behind StarClan after Arc 2.
    And I think Yellowfang is just a convenient cop-out for the writers + They refuse to let characters of the past rest, DOTC cats being the perfect example. There's no reason they shouldn't be faded, by the time of TPB they're supposed to be legends. A lot of stuff just comes from bad writing and inconsistency because Squirrelflight's Hope doesn't even make sense considering they could give her a trial but not Ashfur. If the Erins really wanted things to work out better they would retcon things, like making Squilf's Hope after TBC and just making it a rule that any codebreakers have to have a trial now, and not going so hard on them. Because the codebreaking bullshit also makes no sense when every cat is buddy buddy in StarClan

      The judgment thing was illuded to have been done to others but they just never actually show it especially for those prior to when it's introduced.
      It really just a retcon that didn't write well.
      Which just brings in more questions about how it works.
      They illude that Ashfur was judged and likely some how convinced starclan he regretted his actions. Obviously that was a lie.
      Blackstar I think fits there because he DID regret his actions. He spent his whole leadership questioning himself because of his actions. His whole super edition I think is just him moping.
      And Hollyleaf on tried punishing herself by staying in the tunnels, if Lion hadn't stopped her after she saved Dove and Ivy she likely would've died there. Plus I don't really see it being completely "cold blood' murder to kill a man her try to kill you, your siblings, AND your grandpa.
      I also don't think it's right to compare Mille to Rainflower. Obviously Mille still was pretty bad in some ways, but she didn't neglect young kits. Her kits were GROWN. Why how she infantilized Briar was kinda dumb she wasn't out there neglecting her children when they still needed her. I don't like her but she's not Rainflower bad.
