2010 Prelim Collingwood v Geelong Highlights

  • Featuring Collingwood goals ONLY. Watch Cameron "fugly" Ling get frustrated when he realised his best wasn't good enough, Gary Ablett Jnr's last ever game for the Cats, Leigh Brown's right angled bounce for goal, a reversal of the 2007 Prelim result - it was such a sweet victory for the Mighty Pies. The scoreline is pretty misleading as the Magpies smashed the Cats in the first and second quarters and then went in to cruise control thereafter in preparation for the Grand Final the following week.
    Final Score: Collingwood 18.12 (120) Geelong 11.13 (79).

Hand Solo The giants have lost Toby Greene and Lachie Whitfield, without two of their best players they will have to play the Pies like they played the Bulldogs a little after a few weeks ago with their hard aggression. Collingwood will win this one at the G and go onto playing Richmond after they beat Geelong without Tom Hawkins by a close margin. Then all left will be the Grand Final match between Rivals Richmond and Collingwood that'll most likely cause Riots on the streets of Melbourne haha
Carn the mighty Pies I know they can win it this year!!

See that's what was so good about the 2000s and 2010s is we had great defenders and goal kickers but now in the 2020s the game has become extremely soft like players aren't allowed to duck there heads to get free kicks anymore, There are way to many low scoring games and teams are just bombing the ball down to contests instead of doing what teams like the 2012,13,14,15 and 16 Hawthorn Hawks did where they just chip the ball around to everybody until they get a mark and set shot at goal inside their 50 and also we don't get see players break records for goals kicked in a game and season anymore either so IMO the players today probly wouldn't of survived if they played in the 2000s and the early 2010s era.

Pendlebury said it best the other day. You want to put yourself out there and at least be there on the day. It's much better to be there and lose then to not or never be there at all. That's why Collingwood is great. We almost always put our hand up and get there even if we fall short. 11 of the last 22 preliminary finals we've been apart of. You just better pray our luck doesn't change for the better because even a 10% increase could be 3-5 premierships.

tbh a lot of them did lose their pace like toovey and cloke, but in your defense heath shaw and dane beams got fucking shafted but management and I feel like it was buckley silencing decent and making an example of those two. Buckley being our coach is nothing more than a marketing stunt, no matter how badly he coaches collingwood they'll keep him on because the buckley project was a carefully crafted PR campaign.

    • @thomasjamesalby
      @thomasjamesalby Před 6 lety

My opinion for what its worth.
Nothing to understand really. We've heard it over and over - Collingwood players play a role. The success of this team was not so much the talent of individual players but the ability of the team.
Buckley didnt feel these players would be able to fill the roles required and in order to recruit those that would he needed to free up some "salary cap". Pretty much like any organisation or company going through a restructure.
I agree with the thinking - it didnt work but that was because of some amazing team combinations of the likes of Geelong 2011 Sydney 2012 Hawthorn 2013 2014 2015 (and almost 2016) Tigers 2017.
(Geelong's success was partly due to G. Ablett Jnr but there were many other amazing players as well.)
2016 Bulldogs was more of sheer determination rather than team role play
      Since then...
Adelaide have also adopted team and role play but have been unlucky in their lack of success.
Giants is more about talented players rather than role play (of in part politics of new teams getting good picks)
Sydney, Eagles, Suns have all done the star player/s method which may have worked back in the day but the game is so different now.
Sydney fans dont go all defensive. Just look at the win loss record when Buddy isnt playing.
Bombers, Freo, Saints, Demons, Port etc..... really dont know what they are doing and dont really care right now.
You have to give Bombers some space. Yes they made a bad decision on the drugs thing and really got made an example of (unfairly or not) and yes other teams got away with it
What will we see moving forward?
Pies may get lucky and make the 8 (might be another year or two and a new coach before we see anything further)
Bombers will come back sooner rather than later.
Eagles and Sydney may get lucky and win the flag this year depending on a few "key" players
Tigers. Yep can definitely see a dynasty happening, or perhaps a "geelong/hawks style success" of if they dont win it, they are definitely there abouts.
Hawks, great team and dont count them out.
Giants, sorry Sydney fans but they are too disjointed and way too arrogant for their own sake. IF they start playing as a team again. And IF they go back to basics, they may see some success in the next few years.
Saints, Suns, Blues, I have Sheedy's number if you need it, and they tell me Malthouse is looking for a gig.
Crows, just dont have that "something" - deserves better.
      Cats, yep top eight but...
2018 four way fight - Hawks, Tigers, Sydney and Eagles if they can keep people healthy.
From there it will be whos healthy and the bounce of the ball to determine.

    • @thomasjamesalby
      @thomasjamesalby Před 6 lety

      just a side note
Hawthorn was not only 2013 2014 2015 (and almost 2016)
but you could see this coming from way back in 2008 which is a testimony to the Hawks Club overall. Coaches/ Board, players all deserved all they got and probably better and earlier.
No I am neither a Hawks fan nor a Tigers supporter.
lol definitely NOT Sydney (South Melbourne) either.
      1. And if you really want to see some sparks fly on game day, make a new rule that gives the ball to the opponent of whomever last touched the ball over the sideline. Only ball up if it really cant be determined who last touched it (yep like soccer).
If a player is tackled over the sideline, the tackler gets the free kick (no ball in)
If both players and hanging onto the ball when it goes over (which will stop happening btw) then the team with the most dominant possession is the one who took it over - free to the other team.
Then you will see desperation to keep the ball in no matter what.
      2. Dont allow rushed behinds. If the defending team takes the ball through either goal or point then it is "free kick" into the field of play for the opponent but they cant shoot for goal. Sort of like a corner in soccer.

Were back boys. The spirt is back. The Buckley debacle is finally over. I hate Buckley for steeling this great side from Mick and then ripping it to pieces. Yet so glad in his selfish career he was never a part of a Grand Final. Buckley was a great player, but a useless emotionless coach. So glad he is no longer a part of our team Good old Collingwood forever.

Buckley was a part in 2 Grand Finals
Vs Brisbane Lions in 2OO2 and 2OO3. Even won a Norm Smith, but no wins. You are probably too young to remember kid. Probably weren't even born then.

I miss those days because now the game has become extremely soft and boring to watch because the players today are not as great or dominant and the rules changes have ruined everything like players aren't even allowed to duck there heads to get free kicks anymore and the games have become low scoring which I'd rather watch high scoring games and teams keep winning and losing the same amount of games which has become a bad look for the League and teams are just kicking bombs to contests instead of doing what Hawthorn used to do which is chip the ball around to everybody until they get a mark and a set shot at goal from inside there 50 which the 2012, 13, 14, 15 and 16 Hawks teams were fun to watch because no matter if they were down by 3 or 4 goals with 3 or 4 minutes left in the game they always found ways to come back and win but now teams simply don't try and do that anymore which makes the game suck now compared to how it was played back in the 2000s and 2010s

Collingwood were on growth hormones in 2010. This may never become public but the scrutiny on performance enhancing drugs commenced in early 2011. Dane swan was tested all season in 2011. Collingwood monstered geelong in the prelim. and this was a side which should have been on the way out and no namers became instant champions. Don't argue with me just watch their attack on the ball in numbers in that year. Eddie needed a flag at all costs and he might get away with it.....we'll see.

I'm sure a lot of other teams were on the same stuff. They all try to compete, even with supplements.
But it still comes down to ball skills and determination, which is something that supplements can't alter.
Instant champions? They were a group of players that made the finals every year from 2006-2013.....I think that's just consistency and hard work paying off.
