St Kilda and Geelong went into round 14, 2009 undefeated and the hype was more than vindicated as the two sides hit hard all day. Ruckman Michael Gardiner took a telling mark with less than two minutes remaining to decide the battle.

Was a damn good time to be a Saints fan, and I'm proud of what the team accomplished then.

Best team to never win a flag. This was my saints team growing up, I'll forever be proud of that team and the 19-0 undefeated streak after this game.
2009 & 2010 breaks your heart as a saints fan, should have broken the drought those years and gone back to back.

Obviously I haven't seen all of them, but this match - is the one I'd pick as the home & away game that most resembled a grand final.
Even the build up had a finals feel to it - haven't seen it's equal yet...& we may never see two teams go through 10 or more games undefeated in a season ever again......

@@jackloorham4360 I'm actually a Collingwood supporter, but I have to say the build-up & the intensity of the the Geelong/St. Kilda match surpasses even the Anzac day matches. It was unique seeing 2 teams go undefeated & then squaring off after 14 rounds in an incredible match - even the closed roof added something to the match - atmospherically.. Like I said we'll probably never see anything like that again, but you never know.........

Wasn't the best home and away match, though. Round 16, 2001 NM vs Ess was far better.

This game was just like a final, great atmosphere and a close, tense game between two champion teams.
Game is amazing as it was but even better with Dennis and Bruce in commentary together!

One of the best games ever and probably the best home/away game ever. Obviously bias as I am a massive saints fan but this game had absolutely everything. Amazing build up, record docklands crowd and an undefeated record on the line. The game turned out to be even better than what people thought it would be. Amazing.
