As a Chelsea fan it's become clear to me that Kovacic has to absolutely 100% be a starter for whatever central midfield we have. He can literally do everything from that position.

Thanks for the breakdown James, good stuff. Speaking of a âcontrollerâ type midfielderâŠPochettino did have Mousa Dembele for his entire Spurs run - Dembele absolutely made that team tick, at his peak. He was the only player in the Prem over a 3 year stretch to rank in the top 20 in tackles and dribbles. Dembele also had the highest pass completion % (91%) in the opposition half 2016-2018. Not to mention, you just could not win the ball off him - his successful dribbles % was always near/at the top (85%+)âŠthat ability to glide past players, time and again, opened up play for Spurs.

Poch actually played a back 3 a lot at Spurs. Often during the 16/17 season with Jan, Toby and Dier, and then later when we signed Sanchez and played him between Jan and Toby as as a sweeper type. Don't agree that he is wedded to a back 4.

Kovacic would have to play, he was Chelseaâs best player last season and missed most of the poor run of form this season through injury
He'd play a similar role to Dembele at spurs I'd feel

@@joshhamer5076 I donât think every chelsea fan would say that, I wouldâve said kovacic or Thiago silva for our best player, mount was only crucial because of his g/a last season but he hasnât done anything in regards to that this season which is why people arenât happy, his general play last season wasnât that special

Saying Pulisic isnât good enough is kind of ignorant. Fact is: when he gets starts at his preferred LW, he produces. Last season, he got 8 starts at LW and got 4 goals and 2 assists in those 8 games. In the UCL he got 3 starts at LW, and scored 2 goals in those games. He also had the highest conversion rate of all forwards on the team in the PL, and versus top 8 teams his G+A/90 was .83, the highest on the team (second was .58).
Heâs just overlooked at this point.

Youâre definitely an American. A biased one at that. Pulisic fell off big time. He had a nice purple patch during lockdown 2020 but since then heâs been absolute dogđ©. Heâs simply not premier league quality.
@@jeffrey2870 Iâm from West London and Pulisic is a good player on his day, he rarely gets played in his position, you know why he had a purple patch in lockdown. Because he played Left wing every game consistently, when your benched for 20 games or something and come on and play RIGHT WING BACK, how do you expect him to play well. Heâs had 13PL starts in 2 years
Havertz as a 10 or a shadow to the striker has always been his best position which is why tuechel always confused me for even wanting him. Heâs at his best when heâs given license to roam cuz he finds pockets of space well and has good enough close control to pick the passes in a semi-contested area. Heâs a weird player because heâs not overly versatile but I feel like heâs a world beater If they use him in the one or two roles thatâs heâs phenomenal in.
He reminds me a lot of coutinho in that sense of not being able to play positions you think he might, but being so very good when you figure out the right one. Kinda the same reason Phil struggled at Barca in their 4-3-3 because it didnât have the position to suit his perfect style. Klopp was just smart enough to set his 4-3-3 midfield up in a way to where it flowed into a 4-2-3-1 when we attacked. If poch or potter or whoever does that with Kai I think you see him start to really get it going.

Thanks for the great trio of videos, James! I think that Potter was always the long-term target and circumstances have necessitated bringing the plan forward a number of months. Potter is destined for a top team in the next couple of years, I really hope he gets the chance at Chelsea.
I honestly envy Chelsea's academy and youth scouting network. The amount of talent that goes through those doors is ridiculous good. Most of that time the talent tends to leave though which is a shame to see. More recently Abraham, tomori and possibly a future gilmour. Granted most the time they get a decent fee but as just a fan of football seeing an academy product succeed is still nice for the young lads. More mount and james.

As a Spurs fan I couldn't accept this tbh. From a london club to another london club isn't right. Rivals are rivals everyone can agree with that. Poch could make Chelsea look good and I really don't want that. Imagine if he gets a ST, RW, CAM, 2 CM/CDM, LCB & GK. That starting 11 would look good man.

I like the fact you went for Broja, think he suits Poch. As a Spurs fan though I think you may be off with the fact heâs set on a back 4 albeit probably not wrong tbf. Arguably our best form came under him playing a back 3, Sanchez between Toby & Jan was decent while we chased down Conteâs Chelsea. Eriksen RW and Dele LW were great behind Kane while Mousa Dembele bossed the midfield. Both wing backs were influential and I think Chelsea have all the players to replicate that team.
I feel potter would be best. Players are already set in his formation, thereâd be no animosity from fans bc of rival links like poch, and I wanna see him at a big club bc that could be so exciting
I know they hired Potter so it doesnât really matter now, but in Pochâs best season at Spurs 16/17, we predominantly used a 3421 formation, so Iâm a little bit surprised u were so insistent that he would play a 4 at the back. Great vid though as always đ€

As a spurs fan that watched all his spurs games, he won't want to, if he does then it will work nicely for Chelsea but poch prefers the 4 back massively so he will make it work rather than switch.

as a Chelsea fan I have absolutely no idea what to do, I think getting rid of tuchel is too early, should've waited until the international break or the world cup at the earliest. however with sacking him surely the board have an idea of who they are going to bring in. I don't know tho both these two managers don't fill me with much confidence, potter doesn't have the greatest record when it comes to scoring goals, maybe that is the brighten players I don't know I don't watch them but only 42 goals in an entire season doesn't feel right and that's the area we were lacking needing some more attacking threat. and pochettino I'm not convinced on, yes of course he didn't win anything with spurs but he elevated a team that probably shouldn't have been anywhere near a champions league final into that area, however, when he went to PSG it was very underwhelming and couldn't cut it

Poch? It's bad enough Tuchel was an admitted Spurs fan as a kid (kudos to him for admitting it, though). Chelsea fans won't stand for it and, with his stint at PSG making Messi look crap, I can see why. They've had a ex-PSG coach with a Spurs connection. I would like to think they would believe one is enough!

I don't think you can put Kante in a line up like this expecting him to start most games. If your system relies on Kante it's not going to work, he's injured too much
I feel like Pulisic plays a bigger role in a Poch team then a Potter team, playing 1-2 with Havertz at that 10 role.
Part of it is because of his ability to press well. But also I think his ability in progressive carries may also fit well with a 4-2-3-1.
I think poch would be the best fit. Mainly because he loves to be involved in transfers without a sporting director. I do think he would go with a 3421, we saw that in their most successful season when they went toe to toe with conte's Chelsea.
Both wingbacks can push up. Kovacic and kante sit in. Then mount is his eriksen and havertz the dele. Dele has always been type cast as a creative 10 but he was best as a player who starts in the 10 position, but actually breaks beyond the number 9 frequently for poacher style goals, or pull backs for kane arriving after him, similar to havertz at leverkusen. If you need more wide attacking threat he can be rotated with Sterling who would be the Chelsea's heung min son.
I massively fear for potter not getting the set up around him right, in terms of footballing vision and sporting director etc. We saw it with ragnick and united, and it would be such waste of incredible managerial talent.
As a villa fan Iâve seen nothing from chuckwumeka to suggest he could play in the chelsea team

Ive lost excitement for football and specifically chelsea. How can you back a manager ÂŁ270m after deleting his support not allowing him a summer break and without hiring a DOF. What happens if the DOF doesnt like the manager they rushed through the door? The owners have jumped too deep too soon

If Kante proves injury prone, I think Zakaria would make a good replacement.

Just basing it off the title, I'd day that haverts comment is a bit harsh ( if you meant as an insult ). Give the man a proper position, and not leave him stranded around the park looking for a reason to play. If he is utilised like he is in the German team or back in Germany he would be an amazing attacking threat. Right now it seems as though Tuchel has no clue as to what to do with him.

Respectfully, that Pochettino team stinks. Iâm not saying itâs not how he would set up but thereâs nothing about it that would excite anybody. Did great for Spurs but how much of that was down to have a 30 goal striker? Can just see it being a huge mess. Potter on the other hand is a huge leap of faith but itâs an appointment that offers a lot of excitement.
Pochettino as ex Spurs manager would probably not be popular with the fans. Potter is happy at Brighton.
