By winning this game, the cats finished just 1 and a half games off top spot, playing the best football of the season, and surely a chance for the premiership if the club made the finals. Unfortunately, they finished 7th - when there was just a final 6 (the last year before the final 8), in the last (and only) year in which just 20 home and away games were played (it went back to 22 in 1994).
It seemed unjust that the Cats did not make the finals in this year, when in every year since they would have.
1993 would have been a PURRfect premiership, with great prayers like Ablett, Hocking and Couch getting well deserved premiership medals.
Unfortunately we had to wait until 2007 until the mighty Cat empire finally saluted.
Cats lost 4 grand finals in 6 years in late 80s early 90s. Yet I’m inclined to think that they went into everyone of those grannies as underdogs. 1993 on the other hand, they account for Nth, Essendon and WCE in the run home to the finals. But miss the 6 because of a slow start. Perhaps more so than those 4 grand final losses, 1993 might have been the year that left cat’s fans asking ‘what if?’

Ended up being Andrew Bews' last game for Geelong. Part of the "Six Pack" that went to the Brisbane Bears the following year (along with Alastair Lynch, Craig Starcevich, Craig Lambert, Troy Lehmann, and Gilbert McAdam).
3:52 wow typical Malcolm Blight lol 😂

Do you have the ANZAC Day draw of 95?
