Don't Measure Just CUT! Quarter Panel Install With Nothing But HAND TOOLS - 1955 Chevy Nomad

- In the last episode I installed the driver side quarter panel on my roached out 1955 Chevy Nomad. Full replacement panels were NOT cheap so I took my time installing them. The driver side went together smoothly so I figured I would do a step by step tutorial for the passenger side.
I did this in my small, home garage with nothing but basic hand tools. Vise Grips, cutting discs, grinding discs a decent welder and a little patience is all ya need. I've learnt by doing the task and watching how to videos on CZcams. Trust me, anyone can do it!

The extra time taken to explain the process and fitment is greatly appreciated.
Dan, I'm blown away at the energy you have for these builds => day after day => night after night. I wonder what your day job is that you have so much in reserve for the Nomad and all. Thanks for getting it done.
Just gotta keep the pedal floored and it'll all work out
@@DDSpeedShop that's truth ! I used to work in the family automotive parts business back in the 70,s then I would work at the service station until midnight go clean a few offices , go to school in the morning .. rinse and repeat .. you have to just push through that barrier , once that is done it gets easier ..
It's funny I have been watching Dan for over a year now and I can count on 1 hand how many times that I have noticed him use a tape measure 😅 👍
Great video. Amazing how many of us watch these during work hours. I can’t wait so I am guilty as well !
Yeah man I'm guilty of that!!
Your doing a fine job, and what I like the most about it is the fact that people are pulling for you and rallying around you
Hey Dan, Your doing a great job on the Nomad. All those people that said you were a heck, must have tiny balls. You on the other hand have some Kahuna Balls to take on a project like this and bring her back to life. Great job so far, Can't wait till you have her on the road.
He is a hack but a damn good one,
The rusty pile is slowly going away and the cool hot rod is starting to emerge.👍🏻 getting excited to see where you’re going to take this thing next. Good work Dan😎
Dan is big on fitness. Ya, fitness 1/4 panel onto the nomad.Great job Dan!
I've come to realize that the "Speed" in DD Speed Shop doesn't just fast cars but also fast builds. Never seen anyone turn rust to rods in such a short time. Love your work ethic.
Thanks Ken!
Love your videos man you show the rest of us home small shop guys there ain't no reason we can't do our projects
This is moving along fast! You're in beast mode and it's a blast to watch. Thanks to you both for keeping this channel down to earth. Looking forward to many more episodes as this Nomad Story continues..
Red Green is another famous Canadian. and a great believer in estimating rather than measuring.
Plaid and duct tape--it's a winning combination!
The wagon looks great big difference already ,Dan you need to invest in a sand blaster ,to protect all that work your doing... looking good.
Heave-ho and away you go...You make it look easy. I know you have heard that thousands of times. It's shaping and forming up...All 3-Dimensions. It is becoming a car again. It's amazing to watch. Thanks for sharing. I've said this before: You take it from junk and bring it to a new standard in quality... Your process is a frightening venture for the novice. Yeowwie! TRI-TRI-AGAIN...Your passion in motion: Restoration.
Dan, lot of work ...but looking like a Nomad again !!! Glad you decided to take on the struggle 🙂
Thanks Tom!
YOU ARE DOING GREAT. Nice job saving the Nomad.
That ol' girl is comin along nice there Dan Man.... Take your time and just keep double & triple checking all the work & it'll be moving along at a good clip
I would not have bought that wreck, but you did an awsome job with those panels
Watching your vids has got me brain storming....I think Im gonna customize my 57 Chrysler New Yorker wagon, making it a two door wagon....Its a hot mess anyway...so saved in any form is better than being scrapped...Keep up the great work!
Anyone can restore a car but it takes a real man to cut one up! Good job.
dan is truly the man, never hesitates..does what needs to be done with zero fucks
Thanks!
I hope you saved that panel and hang it on the wall, a trophy of the hard work put into that nomad, plus the paint was kinda cool!
Love watching this guy work. Wish I had the ability.
You do!
@@DDSpeedShop Amen! from your lips to Gods' ears and I can do the rest.
I admire you for taking on such a big project. I’m sure you will keep this one.
I don't think so . I've already heard him say " That's for future Dan to take care of ." He has a lot of money tied up in this project and needs to re-coupe the funds. I bet he'd like to keep it though ! Going to be worth some coin when he's done .
You the man Dan. It’s looking better and better. I totally agree about full panels you have less body work if they go closer to factory seems. Keep up the good work. 👍😎✌️
You are my favorite Canadian on the tube, wait you are the only Canadian I watch. Well, good luck you are doing great
So freaking impressed at what you've done already!
Super enjoy seeing you rebuild this Nomad . I was a sworn 56 fan but I mite be more open to a 55 now great work Bud
Those rear fitments are a pain in the arse. As usual Dan you knocked it out of the park. Great Job!
Wow starting to look like a real car great work
I like the work you do on your cars, patching, changing dashboards, mechanical adaptations and updates to the brake systems, all very cool.
The expensive ones are to your liking and to your liking, and the coolest thing about it all is that you can ride and enjoy it without caring if they are show cars.
Where I live, bureaucracy and traffic regulations prevent us from rebuilding such cool cars.
Great tutorial Dan,not amateur butcherie, that's professional butcherie if there ever was.
You Sir Performed a Miracle on that 55....LOL...Great Job Sir. Im impressed. Cant wait to see it when its done. Great Video....
Looks great Dan,I like your step by step explaining .
And stressing that you take your time in doing this
Nice job Dan! I very suprised the quarters are not stamped out more crisp on the edges. You sure fixed them up man. The old Nomad is turning out excellent👍
Yeah the lines are never as crisp on a re pop panel unfortunately
What a way to start the day.. Watching some good ol DD Speed Shop.
Enjoy your videos Dan and that you put a lot of them out a week keep up the hard work.
Wow bud nomad looks awsome , what a difference a few panels make. Keep up the great work shout out to you from Mexico.
Always a pleasure to watch you work, progress is amazing.
No judging here just pure determination!
Looking really good Dan,I admire how you stick to it.
Absolutely loving the videos on this Nomad Dan...what you have accomplish on this old car is fantastic. Watched all the videos you have done on this what it was to what it is now. definitely more good metal now in it.keep the videos coming roll on first burnout👍
DAN I'M sure liking what is happening showing doing it at home and reassuring it can be done and not in a fancy $1,000,000 shop ba a stranger
Dan, I think you already know that a little tiny bit of metal prep would make your life a ton easier when welding. Lol
truly enjoy the work you put into these projects to make a solid car again many would have given up long ago
Thanks for going into the details of your thinking process.
I have a 55 BA 2Dr HT that I got with both quarters cut off. I have bought both replacement panels and have been avoiding working on them because the task of mounting them seemed so daunting. I now feel much better about giving it a try, like you I'm doing this alone so seeing what and how you've done it gives me a better understanding of the process. Thanks for taking the time on the passenger side to film and explain what you were doing! Hopefully I have near the success you had. Great job!
It looks great. You sure have taken it a long way👍👍👍
Really digging this build, 55 Nomads are my favourite of all the Tri 5s hands down! ✌🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦
Good job as always Dan. Thanks for sharing your Garage Time with us. You help keep me motivated.
Lots of work but when its done you got something you can be proud of. Keep up the good work
Damn that looks hell a good and I like it buddy you are amazing with your hands tell you I’d buy it in a minute if I could afford it
Dan, great craftsmanship. You make this type work so do able, for me. Enjoying the process.
Huge fan of how you're doing bodywork with a sledge. Miiiiiiiint
Your best build so far!!!love where this is going and it's one that is hard to come by.
Okay, you give me renewed hope and confidence. I was looking to just do a rear quarter panel patch where my bull bashed in the back area, but now I am thinking a complete new quarter panel will be the better idea. Besides, no one seems to make the wheel well back patch panels anymore for my 56 2Dr. I have been sharing your videos with my son as he is the one that will do the lions share of my project. After 50 years, this will be the last time. ;)
Been enjoying watching you work😁 lol. Awesome series here👍 Thanks for sharing 🙏
Nothing shuts down internet criticism than completing the job no-one said should be done! You did a solid job, man. From rotted out hulk to the promise of a rebuilt Nomad, emerging from the rust bins of its history!
Whew I’m beat from helping you lol we’re not helping you lol we’re supporting you Dan buddy your doing a awesome job man !! It’s coming together really fast !!! Keep it up 👍🏼
Nice work Dan. Can't believe What you started with. Saved a cool car.
We watch a bunch of different car guys. I love your attitude and humility. Never change.
Your knocking this thing right out.
Day by day
It's getting good now boys he's going to get them s one going.Looks great Dan !💪💪🤟👍
33:05 Positive reinforcement is important lol!! This hot rod is coming along great, lookin sweet!
Looking good Dan, nice job on putting the quarter panel on. I like that tool that crimps and punches holes to. Good tips on watching out for the undercoating catching on FIRE.. I think this one is going to be a keeper because you just can't find them anymore..
Great vid!!! I looked at my rotten quarters for months...... Like you said. One day i just chopped. Now they are done !!!
Looking good Dan Glad to see you using full quarter panels to repair instead of patching the shit out of it like usual It seems like it would've been a good time for you to get those latches fixed for your tailgate while you Had those quarter panels off Thanks for the videos
Lovin’ this Dan! Great to see this down and out Nomad coming back to life!
I shop for cars missing panels, bent frames etc. Once you have the tools and knowledge its not a problem...
Great video 👍🏻 and explained how to!!! Can’t wait to see how you are doing the body swap!!!
The Jam Man is doing wonders!!!!
Haha thanks buddy
Looks awesome Dan! She is coming together nicely!
I'm not here to judge...That's one of God's tasks.......
Dan, you make it look easy, AND, you tell us how you do it.....
This Nomad is shaping up!!
Looking forward to your next video!!!!
I had to come back to this one, just to say, nice job on the detailed explanation. It is hard when you have part of your mind on the video recording, and trying to get a job done, then to take the time to lay it out. Good on you. Replacing panels is a shifty business at best.
I think this is going to turn out as your best build
I love how you are making a car starting out with little more that a roof, a cowl, a tailgate and a door
Great video Dan, it all about taken your time and keep checking the work to see how its fitting. Its looking better all the time . Have a great week.
Love what you do on these videos , Dan ! Most people don't show the meat & potatoes of car building . But then , you ain't most people . What you started with is a car most people wouldn't have bothered restoring . But you did . It is quickly becoming a car most would love to own , because you are doing it right . This Bad Boy is going to look great on that refurbished frame ! You are an inspiration to every back yard & small garage mechanic , globally ! Boom !
Thanks man!
Dan you have given me courage to not be afraid to just dive in and do it! Keep up the great work and videos coming!
Love it Dan. Nomad over Sedan Del. any day. 55 over 56. any day. Coming out nice [ from what it was ] great job !
I impressed with your work and the way you go about it
This video has really showcased you talent and know how
I bet you could hear Murr in your head when you were carefully explaining process, great progress you’d never recognise the panel Van parts now 😉
Great job Dan , the 55' is starting to shape up.
Getting there!
Good work Dan. Coming along nicely. I have seen guys use self tapping screws to hold panels in place while working out fitment. Looking good.
Dan it's looking good ! It's going to be nice when done.
Great video and thank you I've learned a lot and am continually learning just by watching you and am working on my own skills and my own project car you sir are a inspiration 😀 👍
Awesome Dan you do alot more work than anyone 👍🏻👍🏽 and it's getting there 😀👍🏻
Dan...that is Hacktastic!
(Hey, that would make a good T-shirt🤔)
I cannot say anything You done much better and I bet a lot faster than I ever would Last car I drove with a bad quarter cause I did not want to try it And felt bad every time I drove the car . Good job this car is going to bad ass It might be the one you want to keep And can’t to keep the show going How ever I hope it works out the way you want
Hey !! Where is that Dan guy who builds junkers where the doors, floors, quarter panels and rockers don't line up? - I don't really miss him - but this Dan seems to have his shit together trying not to end up with an other turd - hang in there, the car is worth the effort - I'm liking your new digs - good on you guys
You are rockin that nomad..keep on trucking bud
U HAVE GREAT VISION AND FAITH: THAT TUB IS COMING AROUND!!
I like Dans style that means theres hope for me on hacking something together!
I have very valid reasons for feeling compelled to buy every project car you run through your shop ! I'll keep saying it, "Hardest working Dan in town"
The Nomad is looking fantastic. Can't wait to see the end result.
This is definitely going to be sweet. I'm looking forward to colors and trim
Great work Dan! Like the instructions you have added to this video.
Lookin' SICK!
