    I have two Acura MDXs. A 2008 with 200,000 miles and a 2019.
    No issues with either one and changed the timing belt twice on the 2008. I also performed the valve lash adjustment when I changed the timing belt the second time and it runs as good as new. I still use the 2008 to daily commute about 120 miles a day, and beat the snot out of it daily.
    We brought the kids home from the hospital in the 2008 MDX when they were born and they will use it to learn how to drive when they turn 16 in a few years.

      @@xavierrodriguez7836 I did the work myself and the parts were roughly $300 to $400 for OEM parts that didn’t have the Honda or Acura name on them. You pay a lot more if you buy parts from the dealership because they stamp the Honda or Acura name on the very same part you can buy from the OEM, and if I remember correctly Aisin manufactures the water pump and timing belt tensioner and I used a Bando timing belt which worked flawlessly for 100k miles.
      The dealer will charge ~$800 for all the parts, and another couple hundred in labor to install.

    Honestly, I don’t even mind a timing belt at least it’s been designed with service in mind timing chains. They normally tell ya it’s a maintenance free item but if it does end up needing change, it’s a big deal or a cost a lot more money than just doing a simple Belt would.

    That's the first time I disagree with anything Scotty says. On European and Japanese cars I would never take the risk of running the timing belt longer than recommended. That really is a silly thing to say that that is overreacting. Some brands had to lower their recommendation due to to many belts breaking to early. And at that milage your car is basically totalled. Stick to the recommendation of the manufacturer if you like yourself 😉

    IDK why people "gamble" with timing belts. Yes it can be costly on some vehicles, but a new engine (or new valves and cylinders at least) is far more costly (you're talking $500 to $2000 for a belt replacement perhaps along with pulleys and in some cases, a water pump, versus about $4,000+ for a new or rebuilt engine). I mean after say about 300k miles, yes you could have bought a new engine ,but letting it go and possibly destroy the engine is just more of a headache, and most cars won't make it to 300k anyway. so you might do a belt once or twice in the lifetime of the vehicle (in modern vehicles, assuming you do them every 100k or so).

    Have had a 2012 for 11 years. Been a pretty good vehicle but my two biggest complaints are: There was a class action lawsuit that was filed against Honda, and they lost, regarding engine oil consumption. Honda claims that 1qt every 1000 miles is normal consumption. After thousands of customer complaints about higher consumption than that and a class action lawsuit, Honda extended the warranty and offered to rebuild/replace any engine that exceeds this “normal” amount. It requires the owner to take it to a dealership every thousand miles to have the oil level checked, not by any super-accurate measurement, but by a technician eyeballing the dipstick and adding oil if necessary. Then, at the end of 5000 miles, do an oil change and average up the consumption over the 5000 miles. 2 years after this class action was settled, I asked the service manager how many engines he’d repaired. His answer, of course, was zero. I then walked away. So, I’ve added 1.5 quarts of oil every 1000 miles for the last 100K miles. The other complaint is that while it states premium fuel is recommended, it definitely does not run very well on regular. It never has. Other than that, I’ve kept the fluids changed regularly and all the belts changed and it’s still going strong at 165k.

    Hey Scotty, I have a question? I have a 2010 kia rio lx sedan 4d, and the check engine light is on. The codes that pop up are p0497 and p0303. How long the car can last if you don't have the funds to get it fix right away? Oh yeah, the car has 181,276 miles on it so what should I do?

    An RX300 has never got “over 30mpg on the highway” in the history of the world 8:15. Best case scenario, 24mpg on the highway at 63mph with 93 octane. I would know.

  • @jessewynne8193
    @jessewynne8193 Před rokem +1

    I’ve seen people replace belts and water pumps cuz they were told to as preventative maintenance and the new parts didn’t last half as long and 1 person I know did blow his engine when timing belt broke on highway
    But who knows how long the original would’ve lasted. 120k or 300k u just never know even with new.
    They make them cheaper and cheaper quality
