    Hope everyone in that camp appreciates that deer camp and keeps it going in their family or circle of friends. Didnt have that when I was growing up and learning how to hunt. I've been invited to a couple deer camps and loved it!!! Dont let that tradition die!

    Years ago..like 35 or so, i remember seeing some giant 140 to 160" deer from Iron , Marquette and Gogebic counties. Those days are mostly gone.

      Crabby bill those ground blind are deadly effective from Florida to Antarctica, if you don’t have any the best one has zippers which will seal up and keep your scent in , 50 dollars doghouse ameristep, is my favorite because of the zippers , with out them they leak too much heat and scent.

    How did you select your blind location? What did you like about that particular area? What county were you in? Thanks!

    • @DroptineRidge
      @DroptineRidge  Před 4 lety +1

      Chris Williams - personally I like islands in swamps. This island was over a 1/2 mile from the main road which allowed for a lot less pressure. While scouting this I noticed there was a major bedding area about 300 yards away. My hopes were that the pressure up front would push the deer into the swamps, all while trying to catch deer sliding back into their bedding.

    its not the size of the rack its the size/maturity of the animal....let them get to 3 or 4 years of age. Ive hunted with bow, gun and black powder for 55 years and have seen the effect of taking immature deer out of the herd.

    • @DroptineRidge
      @DroptineRidge  Před 4 lety +3

      Paul Leep - I respect those who embrace the challenge of chasing older deer. However, in our area of the yoop I have noticed a difference in hunting since the implementation of APRs. Which were put in place to protect younger deer. Unfortunately, it has had a negative impact on our deer herd. Wolves, bears, coyotes, and bad weather have always been in the equation since the beginning of time, so it is not just that. When hunters were legally able to harvest younger bucks with at least one of their tags, the hunting was far better in our area. We were also constantly killing older deer. Now we are passing spike after spike each year only to see the same thing the following year. Why is this? I honestly have no idea. I personally believe that it all depends on the area. For instance in the yoop in our area the “let em go, let em grow” philosophy has failed us, where in the TC area it has helped it. Either way, good luck this season! Hope you get the deer your after!

    • @DroptineRidge
      @DroptineRidge  Před 4 lety +1

      Kyle Beard - No sir, not about that illegal stuff. But you can bait in the UP and have been going there for years. If they took away baiting in the UP it would really put a hurting on the economy and the deer herd.

      Sorry but if you are hunting for the size of the rack you are the problem with deer hunting. It is all about seeing deer and shooting any size buck. It is not "trophy" hunting. It is buck hunting.

    • @DroptineRidge
      @DroptineRidge  Před 4 lety +3

      roger martin -- I couldn’t agree with you more! If you wanna shoot a button buck or a spike, I’ll be the first there to help you drag him out. I am generally trying to chase older deer as I love the challenge, but I have nothing against those who take younger deer. In fact I get super excited for the hunter or huntress. We as hunters all need to be on the same page, because if we’re not we’re only hurting the sport. Good luck to you this season!
