Although flawed this film is a must see for every Peckinpah fan. Still you have his recurring themes and standpoint on life, despite he did not trust in material of this film and significant part of shooting was in his trailer letting Coburn direct instead. Still this film has relevant points on male camaraderie, honor, respect, critique of ruling class and command structure which knows no honor, femininity in form of nurse which is there to recuperate man before his next battle... Sam Peckinpah is my director, my man.
Possibly my favorite main title theme of any movie. The entire score is a masterpiece.

it's as good as any other film he made, and it's not an overlong corncob like the wild bunch!
