#gratefuldead #reaction #musicreactions - Hudba
Hard to believe Phil Lesh had only been playing bass for two years when they played this show.
They played more concerts than any other band in history.
More than B.B.King? He played like 80 shows a year for like 50-60 years or something. IDK but that'd be my counter. & I've been a Deadhead for 38 years. Let me know...(~);}✌
@@mattreynolds612 I don't think he qualifies since he is not a band, but also it seems that other bands have now surpassed the Dead, which is understandable since Jerry died nearly 30 years ago
@@JB-Deadskins B.B. King had an amazing band. I saw them personally a few times. They just played under that name. It shouldn't be about labeling. And I'd much rather Listen to the Grateful Dead than B.B. King, but that wasn't the statement I was questioning.

They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones that do what they do.
They were the house band for the Prankster’s acid Tests which were like the first Raves and everyone danced. And that’s what they got associated with in the early days.
Such an amazing song. What a shame it didn’t stay in the rotation.
That Sunday, they played between The Who and Jimi Hendrix...This festival was Magic !!
At least one critic at the time said they had the best guitar playing of any band in the festival
Love how they stole the PA system and took it home to Frisco!
@carlos_herrera Well he got that wrong.
Jerry Garcia started out in Bluegrass bands as a Banjo player, so he was used to having the instrument up high. Later on he lowered his playing position, and had a few custom Guitars made by his favorite Luthier, Doug Irwin. And Jerry says "Why don't you let them in". Always wanting to get the music out there, with no pretense. This was even before Mickey Hart joined as the second drummer, or as he preferred, Percussionist. Monterey Pop, 1967, my god, were we ever that young?
The Dead never stopped being a dance band.
Hell yeah 1968 and 69 is hard
The Dead did a lot of very rhythmically weird things.
I like your reactions Rory. Been watching 'em and likin' 'em. Specially Zappa, Beefheart, etc. But PLEASE more Grateful Dead!
That bass motherfokker🪖.....had the mother sucker poppin' on the Not Fade! That's straight Meat on the Hook type of raw CHUNK meat!🥩🪝 On a HOOK!🔥
I interpreted the end part differently. Maybe wrong, but I thought that the kids who were breaking in had heard a rumor that the Beatles were there, so they were saying "we wanna see the Beatles", etc
now you're listening to some BIG BOY Grateful Dead - bravo - this clip (a holy grail of tunes') was when they were still first learning how to play with one another - here's some fun a bit later, when they knew what they were doing on a much more grandiose scale - it's a clip with Branford Marsalis sitting in with them for the 1st time at HIS first Grateful Dead concert (1989) - after having him play a cameo in the 1st set (and Branford thought he was done for the evening) they told him to hang out for the 2nd set and they'd play DARK STAR with him... enjoy czcams.com/video/my-1HAGiytA/video.htmlsi=eBFtrhBiv-Bn6mbJ&t=5160
There is more to that ending piece. Peter Tork from the Monkees was enlisted to go out and tell people not to break in and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead was the one arguing saying why not let them in
I got surprised you reacted to grateful dead, a mid 60's band that performed psychodelic rock and folk rock. My mother listened to this band when she was very young thanks Rory👍
OOHH, WOW BLAST TO THE PAST!! I WAS NEVER A DEADHEAD BUT THAT WAS AWESOME!! GUITAR AND THE BASS, JUST A JAMMIN, THIS IS INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE!! AWESOME REACTION RORY 💙 AND THANK YOU ELIZABETH FOR THIS AMAZING REQUEST!! 😊🩷🤘✌️ HIPPIE DAYS!!
Wow great pick. A dance band lead by a folk singer. Yeah that works.
Thanx! Nice to see you appreciate this song!
‘Stella Blue’ Winterland 74 mate !
Grateful Dead got better in the seventies and better in the eighties and into the early nineties. Always a live touring act. Albums and videos were a mere afterthought
Need to do PIGPEN songs!!
First white dance vand fkr sure.(~);}
KC & Sunshine, Jefferson Airplane get honorable mentions...
They always claimed they flubbed the big occasions. And this time I think they went right on after the Who. Dead music needs to settle and go on for quite a long time to get people into the groove, so kind of hard to star at the kind of pop shows like Monterey between the Who and Hendrix.
This is an old blues number they used to do - there's a version on their fist album.
Surprised this footage is there, because the story is that they refused to be filmed, but possibly they just refused to be part of the film.
Definitely Garcia made it very clear they were playing for people to dance. Of course they played a lot of slower numbers too.
@@michaelwebster8389they refused to be part of the Woodstock film, not Monterey
@@JB-Deadskinsno they absolutely refused to be part of the Monterey film, this was footage that was recorded at Monterey and was never used because they refused to sign the release.
I'VE BEEN WATCHING OASIS LATELY IN CONCERTS AND LIAM AND NOEL INTERVIEWS, WOW LIAM IS SOMETHING ELSE! I LOVE LIAM'S VOCALS VERY MUCH!! JUST THOUGHT I'D MENTIONED IT. 😊🩷🤘✌️
Do Not do Dylan and the Dead itsux
Sucks is strong but it is much better in theory than in practicality. There’s far too much great GD to spend time on that.
