Dr. Prabhakar, looking forward to you starting the midweek matters series! One point you made stuck out during the discussion on the economy. If the dispensation keeps winning inspite of under performing, why would they even try? I have another take on this. They are actually incapable hence have to depend on other issues to win. They have been successful until now but for how long? Even ardent admirers need to have jobs and earn enough to run their homes!

What is the quantum of dollars RBI has sold for sterilisation of the rupee? That will be the cost of maintaining the rupee.
Even in cities and towns of Maharashtra RSS runs a sanskar shala where children of slum dwellers are taken in as young as 7/8 by a young pracharak so as to take them in the fold and fill them with hate . Whike the wirking mitgers have slowly gotten rid of their traditional gods and accepted Ram krishna and lakshmi as their idols . They even go fir a weekly meeting called baithak where soneobe in orange robe gives them shuddhi abd learnings about brahmanic life . They fo all the fasts and festivals of Hindus and do nit eat masoor Daal on auspicious days ( conveniently) as it’s popular with Muslims and others ? Shicking . It used to be green color too .
Actually green bangles and green Saree was always a symbol of fertility and worn by newly weds ! Thanks for this economics fright !🙏

Shallow discussion. The 2 economists have conveniently forgotten that this is a case of dollar appreciation. INR has appreciated against the pound, Yen and other currencies.
FPI selling is not India specific. When dollar appreciates capital flight hsppens from most economies.
Regarding inflation, everyone knows that India's inflation is lower than that of US, UK and E Zone.
More important, FPIs have turned buyers in July. So, will Mr Prabhakar change his view now?

True - the dollar has appreciated against other countries - but then earlier the dollar had depreciated against the euro prior to the break of the Ukraine war.
Rupee had depreciated to Rs 87.91against the Euro exactly one year ago to date - it is Rs 81 today.
The underlying aspect is that the exchange rate reflects the relative economic status today. If we look at the FPI outflow prior to Ukraine war then that reflects the global economic reality in another perspective.
The focus of the discussion is focussed in one aspect is on the political economics. It should be seen in that context

I did not find anything incisive. It lacked objectivity. It does not seem like coming from serious economists. It came out more like a rant, motivated by a need to bash the government.
I do agree. It was more an analysis of narratives vs anything incisive. But you know it is going to fall into deaf ears any way and a channel with subscribers like you and me counting to 42k can hardly mean anything. It is an opportunity for arm chair criticism. Mid week matters was very precise incisive and insightful and it won the hearts of ruse 42 k subscribers. BJP won in all the states as predicted.
I agree. The 'conversation' could have been more structured. It came across as too casual. Also, they could have come with a little more preparation.
But the point is what’s the use of incisiveness? but for helping some arm chair thinking.
