Todi is an excellent example of a well-preserved Italian hill town. It's a fascinating medieval gem in the heart of Umbria and yet Todi is off the beaten track of tourists. It's one of those authentic places that are not crowded, but Italians in the know are quite familiar with it because this village is so wonderful. It's next to the Appenine mountains with a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves.
Because we're on a hill, the surrounding lowlands can gather mist, sometimes with a magical lighting effect. It's an old-fashioned small town with a friendly atmosphere. Todi is located about 40 kilometers from Perugia in a straight line distance, 100 kilometers from Siena, and 150 kilometers from Florence. During our Todi visit, we'll be focusing on the little pedestrian lanes and the piazzas lined with historic buildings.

We'll see monumental arches in the old fortified walls. Todi has quite a few of these little pedestrian alleyways. No cars here, just people walking and residences, apartments lining these little narrow lanes. While it is a very old town, there are quite a few young people living here. If you're out walking in the morning, you'll see them on their way to class.
These narrow, curved lanes can be a little confusing, so you might get a bit lost. It's a small town, you can't get too lost, but you have a choice. Do you want to just go wander or follow a particular route that will bring you to most of the good parts of town? To help you out, we're going to offer an efficient route.
Wow Mr. Callan! I have been watching your videos for a few years and am planning a trip to Italy for next summer. Your videos have really gone next level! Beautiful work! Bravo!
I'm so glad you enjoy them and find them helpful. I have put all the information and videos into my new website, with text, maps, links, photos and more here townsofeurope.com/Italy/Italy.html
@@denniscallan you're doing an excellent job at the niches. I just spent 39 days in SE Tuscany and the whole of Umbria. Loved it. One thing though, while the hotels are definitely less expensive than Tuscany, the Restaurants are only slightly cheaper. Also ...I found Arezzo and Perugia to be the best bases.
I've got to see if you've been to Trentino and watch those videos as that is my next destination
@@wernerxytra6151 Thanks Werner, glad you like them. I have not yet been to Trentino, but some day...

Amazing places !great video!! Greetings from a new friend💐👍👍👍
Thanks for visiting
Thank you for sharing! We discovered Todi on our way to Assisi in 1971. Unfortunately we only spent the afternoon. However, your video added much to the experience. Upon seeing Todi from the surrounding country it made a lasting impression; with the spectacular cloud formations I have always associated it with el Greco's painting of Toledo, Spain.
The best video on Todi so far! Thanks much.
I think so too, thanks.
Todi will be in my “to do list” next trip to Italy. Thanks Dennis.
