Dolceacqua is a charming village nestled in the hills of Val Nervia, and is one of the jewels of extreme western Liguria, just minutes from the sea and the French Riviera.
Claude Monet, who in 1884 was staying in the nearby town of Bordighera, went inland and in addition to the natural wonders of the coast, was enchanted by the village of Dolceacqua.
The Impressionist Painter drew the sight of the village, the castle of the Roman bridge of Dolceacqua and in his letters he wrote fascinated:
“…the place is superb, there is a bridge which is a jewel of lightness…”
Today, the medieval village of Dolceacqua is still identical to how Claude Monet painted it in the late 1800s.
Precisely because of its timeless beauty Dolceacqua is now a destination for tourists of all nationalities, who go here from the coastal towns of Liguria and neighboring France or who spend a few days of vacation in the many B&Bs spread in the alleys.
History :
The first official document that cites Dolceacqua dates back to 1151, when the accounts of Ventimiglia had the first nucleus of the castle built on top of the rocky outcrop overlooking the stream where the valley narrows and forks: the Roja valley on one side, the Val Nervia on the other.
In 1270 Dolceacqua was bought by the Doria of Genoa and over the centuries the 'Earth' was developed the town that lies at the foot of the castle.
As you walk through this part of Dolceacqua, you will be fascinated by the intricate concentric structure of the alleys that develop around the castle.
In the middle of the 15th century, Dolceacqua began to grow and develop on the other side of the river: the new “Borgo” district was born.
The two inhabited centers were connected by the unmistakable donkey-back bridge that so struck the Impressionist painter Claude Monet.
For many centuries Dolceacqua was the capital of the Doria dominion, which over the centuries extended along the Nervia Valley, encompassing the villages of Perinaldo, Apricale, Isolabona.
During the conflict between Guelphs and guillotines, Dolceacqua always remained in the knead of Guinea, opposing the Guelphs of Ventimiglia and Monaco.
For centuries, Dolceacqua was disputed between the Grimaldis of Monaco, Savoy and the Doria themselves.
Finally, in 1746, the castle was besieged by the French and Spanish armies and almost destroyed.
After the destruction of the castle, the Doria settled in the village, in the same palace which, in 1794, welcomed Napoleon Bonaparte.

в семьях было по много детей…как натаскать и нагреть воду чтобы всех помыть хотяб раз в неделю? значит мылись редко…представляю какое там было puer…детей из дома выпускать страшно…женщинам после захода солнца опасно на улице находится…короче ужас🫣
@@nivanova4438 Я думаю люди , которые родились и выросли в том времени привыкли к такой обстановке , а другой они и не знали . Все - таки 15 век . О комфорте не думали , думали об относительной безопасности наверное . А может и вообще ни о чём не думали , кроме как что то поесть и где то поспать .
Но одно ясно - тогда наверное не было таких психических заболеваний как клаустофобия .
Интересно другое - что сейчас там отель - люди за деньги желают там пожить , переночевать по крайней мере .
Надо быть с очень крепкой психикой или наоборот , чтобы делать это .
Я бы например на такое не решилась даже даром , а не за деньги . Но - люди разные .
Кому то это - романтика .

It is a wonderful cityscape that tickles travelers' inquisitive minds, full of hidden elements far more than the downtown area of the city.

Wow, this is crazy! It so reminded me of La Pigna di Sanremo with the dark narrow alleys that led to many other dark narrow alleys. I've always wanted to return to Sanremo but this time I'd visit Dolceacqua too if I could figure how to get there without a car. Sadly, people just hear about the eastern Ligurian towns like Cinque Terre but not the west side. Which, I suppose, is good and less crowded. Thanks for sharing.

This is another gorgeous village in a country over-flowing with them. But no matter how you love it now, just imagine for a minute what it was like 150yrs ago, before electricity, before gas lighting, before sewers. Dark, smelly and lanes streaming with effluent. People who lived here in those times would not have seen it as we do.
Such a lovely city, but so same so lonely….just wish for a bigger crowd. Never thought I could say this

La Liguria è per me la più bella regione italiana, mi affascina, mi inebria e mi mette tanta nostalgia perché è lì che sono nata e che purtroppo è un bel po' di tempo che non vedo ma è sempre nel mio cuore ❤️

Comunque, la particolarità della nostra penisola, per conformazione e storia, fa sì che.. non ci si annoi, diciamo. Non basta una vita per visitare l'Italia, nonostante sia più piccola di altri rinomati paesi. Si possono scoprire svariati tesori ambientali ed artistici inaspettati in ogni angolo del nostro stato... E tutti di di provenienza, storia, cultura spesso molto diverse. Cosa che capita in pochi posti del mondo.
Si capisce da come ti esprimi che sei una persona amante dell'arte e della cultura e qui da noi ce n'è moltissima ...Io vivo in Toscana quindi ne sono circondata , per quanto riguarda il cuore ❤️ ti confesso che il mio non è uno zingaro e va... purtroppo è andato ma è rimasto nella mia Liguria.

Вы этого знать не можете,так как вам людям примерно в 2 года стирают память прошлой жизни,не стирают только тем кто в это время сильно болел или с ним случилась какаята трагедия,тогда стиратели памяти вас обходят,когда вы выздоравливаете и взраслеете то вы помните свою прошлую жизнь и как вы выбирали своих родителей которые вас родили уже в этом мире,но таких людей еденицы в мире и они как правило становятся избраными везунчиками и ангелы их постоянно охраняют и они становятся мудрыми.Кстати в этой жизни нет никакого совершенства и здоровой красоты,это обычна старая постройка и мода в те старые временв строить так тесно,представте что так строили бы в москве,это было бы сложно продать,где окна из дома выходят на стену другого дома в 2-х метрах и солнце у вас в помещении всего то один час.

about 2,000 people live in Dolceacqua, whose name literally means sweet water. The village used to be a fortified borough around the castle of the noble Doria family, for defensive reasons since the whole area was subject to Saracen's pirate incursions in the middle age.

Невероятно красиво и даже как-то нереально сказочно. Но думаю, что жить там очень сложно и живут там особенные люди. Словом локация для туристов, но не для жизни. Хотелось бы нырнуть куда нибудь в одну из дверей, что бы увидеть внутренний быт, ну хотя бы в ресторанчик или местный мини отель. Даже эти заходы сказали бы уже о многом.
Моя родня с Украины сейчас живёт в похожей деревушке. Действительно, жить там сложновато. Они говорят, что это каменный мешок, планировки в домах тоже убогие. Вы правы, Игорь, для туристов, а не для жизни. Моя сестра уже вернулась под обстрелы, тётя и племянница готовятся вернуться. Они так и не смогли привыкнуть к такому жизненному пространству.
