Heaven is being 14 years old and starting up your wood elf druid in GFay. Figuring out the layout of the town, the 3 lifts, running around with fellow newbies. Getting to level 14 and getting SoW, and DSing, SoWing and healing random newbies from time to time with your newfound powers.
Heading to the Oasis for crocs and such, and your older brother gives you a brown chitin protector for your birthday!
Getting to level 19 and access to ports! What would have taken hours to cross you can now do in a single spell. East Karana is your animal playground, kiting and charming wolves against spiders, using their silk to get your tailoring up.
Reaching level 24 and heading to Everfrost to hunt mammoths for their tusks and making a thousand platinum while leveling there.
Turning in gnoll fangs to Halas so you can wolf form around the barbarians without getting attacked.
Heading to Velious and fighting Rgorr, charming wolves against giants, starting your port business and getting rich.
Heading to Luclin and farming the Elysium set, a druid only chain armor.
Eventually retiring the character in your 50's and you switch to Bard - so long Jerok, Wood Elf Druid on the Tribunal.

@@myokitt Not only was guiding folks around a way to earn, teleporting (Ports) them between continents to avoid 15ish minute boat ride/queues (Plus the run to the boats), along with helping on Corpse Runs, depending on what you played. Back then, when you died...... you had a corpse. Lost experience. And..... a timer. Didn't get your stuff before that timer 40+ zones away? It was gone. Forever. [Players would often leave items behind they were upgrading from to form a base corpse run set). EverQuest was an absolutely magical experience because.... while self reliance was possible, those who flourished did so by working together.
Can you imagine a modern MMO where players had physical "Models", and allowed huge models that could block doors? Ogres/Trolls sure could in EverQuest....... in fact, chains of them would be used to close areas.

This game brings back awesome memories.
I was in 10th grade (2001) and I got into it just when the second expansion Scars of Velious was over and they released Shadows of Luclin. That and POP are my favorite expansions to this day likely.
My first character was in Kelethin as a Wood Elf Druid. I cant recall what server I started off on, but I remember ended up on Bertoxx.
I remember the first time being immersed just thrown in killing the bees.
I remember getting stuck, lost, and jumping off several times to die just so I could spawn by the lift to kill more bees.
I remember realizing there being more than one lift.
I ended up in my first party pulling to Orc Ramp and Hill.
I will never forget, "CHOO CHOO", or shouting TRAIN in Crushbone.
I remember the feeling of accomplishment of having beat the Orc Fort.
I remember navigating to Butcherblock and fighting along there. The goblins near the water at the time dropped items that you could sell for massive money at vendors, and farm them.
I remember taking the ferry to Freeport, and exploring the Human city. There, I was told by the locals to navigate to the Oasis of Marr; where I could find assistance.
I remember reaching the Tunnel. Anyone from the old days before the Bazaar came in PoP knows that the Tunnel.
I met so many people, from kind people to giving away items to buffs, sometimes portals for free or donations; (which inspired me to start my own Druid "Uber" taxi.
I remember partying there, and joined my first guild, and learned about the term "multi-boxing." The Guild Leader was a Bard and his RL wife was a cleric, and they would help guide me traveling to all sorts of places.
I managed to get to LOIO, or Lake of Ill Omen, roughly around level 20s/30s and got stuck leveling. I ended up trying to a different class and focused on school a bit, but I met some friends from High School who played. Shadows of Luclin was released and we all played that for a bit.
I decided to roll a High Elf Paladin. It was so vastly gorgeous compared to much of what I had seen previously. Vah Shir and Beastlords were an awesome addition to the game. New models for all races (that I had to disable many of them because of they were too powerful for my PC until I upgraded. I was so stoked when I could have them all turned on without loss of performance. But still always had to turn them off for raids and spell effects, cause Holy lag.)
Mounts! Being able to regenerate health and mana mounted!
My paladin managed to level quicker with the introduction of Hot Zones for leveling; and Paludal Caverns was THE place to be for around 20s, but after staying on Luclin, I skipped LOIO, managed to level quicker with Overthere as a Hot Zone before moving back to Luclin.
I came back as soon as PoP came out, 46 was the requirement to access early planes. One mate and I still played but we end up splitting off when he vastly outleveled me and started being really arrogant with his progression.
Thats how I ended up on Bertoxx. Wood Elf Rogue. Went back to the roots with Kelethin. Managed to have a guild to help me with my Epic 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 weapons with that one as the following expansions came out.
For me, after PoP and Ykesha - Lost Dungeons of Norrath was meh. Gates of Discord I thought was absolutely horrible and turned me off from EQ. WoW was already super popular by then and I went to that for a while from Vanilla to WoLK)
I came back to Omens of War, and the content was cool; but I just didn't have anyone I really could connect with anymore that played and to me, the community was what really drew me into EQ.
I haven't really played since Omens in 2005, 2006. And that was the 8th expansion.
I cant even believe this is still alive and supported, they are on the "28th" expansion. Incredible. And so many dead zones lol 😆

There will never be a game like EQ1 again, mainly because there will never be an unselfish gaming community like that again; people who largely came from analog paper and board RPGs and who understood the group dynamics because it was necessary to be supportive of your party to be successful. Now it mostly seems like a vanity push for loot and the latest gear, FIRST. Guilds still pushed for vanity loot and gear back in the day, but a huge segment of the players were supportive of others because of the game design back then.

It was great because although you were playing an mmo, the vast areas some would adventure to never led to player interaction. It really felt like living in a huge world in a DnD environment. The music was great, history that established the background was awesome and it has way more story depth than any mmo I've tried. Just because the story is subtle and hidden doesn't mean it wasn't there.

PSA: the czcams.com/video/egErjaxXK-c/video.html mark has snow falling, the sounds of wintry winds, and a high elf wanders into the frame. I believe that's Crystalwind, but I might be wrong? Regardless, real highpoint of the track.

I think Highmoon and Crystalwind were the guards outside Felwithe.

you've got to go to the common lands tunnel after getting a bind in freeport, there's people to give you strong buffs and damage shields to make the leveling more entertaining.

Do you know if DayBreak has any timelock servers that wont go past velious?

Not sure! Hopefully someone else will come along and know the answer.

I don't think there are any timelock servers from Daybreak, I've only seen them do progression servers.
If you haven't yet you should look into Project1999. They are free private EQ servers that don't go past velious. There are currently 4 servers
      Blue - Timelocked in velious
Green + Teal - Progression servers that will stop at Velious (currently at classic eq)
Red - Timelocked in velious pvp server
Here's a link to the website www.project1999.com/ and here's a link to their setup guide www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651
I've played on these servers off and on for some years, sooo much fun! The community is pretty much the same as old eq days.

@@justinwilson1526 Yeah I was in Taken a long time ago! I LOVED P99 around 2012-2014 :) The raid scene got a lil drama stinky with the guild-rotations & the quality of life setbacks (to keep it classic) felt unnecessary ... but I do log on every now and then

The only progression server that they have that's Time Locked is locked to "Planes of Power era"... It unlocked Kunark, Velious, Luclin, Planes, Lost Dungeons, and Legacy of Ykesha, but will not progress past that point to GoD. The server name is Agnarr

It's entirely possible I went overboard with the GM commands and caused snow where it's not possible. I honestly don't remember at this point!

It's been some time but I seem to remember a time when snow fell and the orcs in the area were different. Not sure if it was an event or what, I still can't find any posts about it so maybe I am misremembering.

Turn the speed down to 0.75 and its just like EQ2s version.
