- Here's the review of the San Martin SN0129-GC. Could this be San Martin's best watch so far, or at the very least their best GADA watch?

San Martin kills any other microbrands out there. Price and quality is unmatched
They certainly do offer fantastic build quality and finishing for the money.
Great rwview James. I am aboout to go on holiday so wont be handling this for a while but I must say Im on the fence with this one. The crystal seems to lack clarity and the bezel height and width seem over powering...but as I say just my first impressions 😊
Cheers mate. Hope you have a good holiday.
Nice review, beautiful watch, but I agree if the date was at 6, colour matched and a Miyota 9015 with slimmer case it would be outstanding and well worth an extra £100.
You never know, if enough people want it, then perhaps they will.
That intro! Great vid!
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fine looking watch. Much appreciate the review.
It sure is. Thanks for watching.
Awesome review! I have the red one on the way :) It's cool that they are making a GADA watch, my previous GADA is the sn020-g2 limited.
I prefer the date at 3, much easier to see when it peeks out of the cuff. Date at 6 isn't for me. 13.1mm is due to the dome crystal that allows all angle legibility.
Blue AR wise, it's much less reflective than the Clear AR which helps us see the dunes more.
Cheers. I'm glad you liked it.
That's fair enough, we all have different preferences. I don't hate it at the 3, I just like the symmetry of it being at 6 though.
SM is killing it recently. Want to get one of their summer divers.
Absolutely.
mamacoo You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much
Best SM watch to date for me. Perfect dimensions. And non GMT.
Have you got one then?
Damn it. Shut up bro. I’m not supposed to be buying any more watches.
Kind of exceeded my quota for the year already. 🤣
@@tohian 😆 I won't tell anyone 😉
Great review and great watch! I believe they are coming out with another version with different dial patterns and date at the 6. 👍🏼
Ooh are they 😄
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Yup. Gary from I Like Watches got a sneak preview of them. 👍🏼
@@adk7962I’ve heard this ; sans the wave pattern ( good) , 6 at bottom .. and something else I forget 🤔. I’m waiting for that and will but in red.
My opinion, they’re chasing the Erebus sales due to the criticism of the Erebus prices when delivered but gas admiration for the dual designs etc so SM see the gap in the market . Very clever if so !
Mine should ship in the next 2 days (red dial) cant wait to get it in hand. Great review mate 👍⌚
Nice. You won't be disappointed. Cheers mate 👍
I see a lot of complaints about the thickness, but it seems ok to me, I'd rather keep the price down and stick with NH35.
It would be an auto-buy if it came in 36mm with NH38, and skip the date altogether.
My wrist is 7.25 inches and 36mm is just a sweetspot for gadas and dress watches. I'm not really interested in 39mm anymore unless it's divers or chronos.
I agree, I think it wears its thickness quite well.
Swap out the NH35 and replace with PT5000 to reduce thickness and it's an auto-buy for me. It's just too thick. I know you addressed that in your video but SM needs to make thinner watches. Addiesdive, Kraken, and recently Cronos have figured this out but SM are obstinate for some reason.
It would be nice, wouldn't it?
They did it with SN0107-B4 and it was a good choice. I want to see more of the 10.8 mm thick watches from San Martin.
@@persona-non-grata it’s a bit thick on paper but in person it’s totally fine. Although I’m a big worsted fella.
I got the GMT version.
Beautiful case.
Now i order the sn0130.
I like this even more!!!
They're making some great pieces at the moment aren't they?
For that price, I think they should upgrade the NH35 movement to a Miyota 9000 series. As is, I think it's a bit overpriced.
That would be a nice upgrade.
Good luck with a miyota 9 on a Ali watch. PT5000 more like
@@multipl3 I'd be alright with that too.
NO PT! Pure crap.@@multipl3
@@multipl3they’re bringing out a Miyota movement on their next GADA watch that looks really nice.
The cronos version fixes some of the flaws, its thinner, the bezel is slimmer and has a more detailed bracelet, and more brushing, and it was cheaper during the last sale, like 175 even less with all the extra discounts, I think I got it for like 150. It even has better more detailed hands and more detailed hour markers too. The only downsides are the clasp isn't a on the fly adjust, and the dial options are limited to two textured dials in black and white. It's sort of a toss up, the cronos is cheaper, but you can tell the savings is the clasp and dial.
Am so getting this
Which dial colour are you going for?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR this one.
Thanks for that .To my mind the hands and applied indices are very similar to the SN0118 which does have a lumed second hand though . That’s not a criticism , anything other than a Mercedes style suits me .
I'm glad you liked it. I think we're all getting tired of Mercedes hands now.
Yes, I agree it is one of their most nice looking pieces. If not the nicest.
And it was in my cart, twice. Yet with the Ingenieur and the Tissot Gentleman in my collection- I don’t see it as a necessary edition, for now😉
Their making some great pieces lately aren't they?
Good looking watch!
I think so. Are you thinking about getting one yourself then?
I'm inclined to agree, I think this is their nicest watch to date.
My only criticism is indeed the thickness, I've not held it so I can't make a fully informed judgement but over 13 mm of thickness makes it a fairly chunky boy!
I hope San Martin develops this design further, perhaps difference dials, maybe even a good quality quartz movement and a much slimmer case.
The only thing that puts me off is the chunky case.
Due to the design of the case, it wears thinner than you'd think though. With a good amount of that thickness being the caseback, so it sits into your wrist.
Do you find the bezel being a tad bit too thick? Or are the proportions just right for the bezel thickness versus the dial size?
We have the same niggles. I would like to move the date to the 6 and color match. That would be better for the symmetry of the dial. I would probably also remove the red tip from the seconds hand.
No, I don't have any issues with the bezel myself.
Nice review! If you had to choose one, this or the Baltany Explorer?
Thanks. That's a tough one, as they are both great. But if I had to choose, I'd probably go for this one. As the case finishing is more detailed, plus you've got the on the fly adjustable clasp too.
nice overall watch but i don't like the counter balance on the second hand they seem to be using it on all their recent model's.
I agree that this is one of San Martin‘s best watches. I do not agree that female end links and the clasp work very well with this watch.
First, female end links tend to twist in some ungainly angles if the caseback is quite thick as it is the case here (it can be seen in the video). Male end links would integrate visually much better.
Second, the clasp is not only unnecessarily big, with long links it also often does not provide a perfect fit and some adjustment left at the same time. This is due to the links being longer than the adjustment leeway.
Ah and third, I do not agree with the notion of a date at the 6 being better. The case is asymmetrical with a pronounced bulge at the three. It makes perfect sense to put the date right there.
I realise this is a San Martin made watch and it has good finishing and style with a Seiko 21,600 bph movement but that fumee is just plain wrong for this watch. San Martin have used this sand dune dial on other models and they are near perfect with no fumee so why spoil this one. I believe San Martin ought to start using a hi-beat movements from Seagull or preferably Miyota. Every damn watch is a Seiko movement. It's cheap and works well but a hi-beat movement would attract more customers.
I'm with you on the movement... But I disagree about the dial.
Please do a lume test that is longer than 6 minutes after a UV charge. It's not representative at all.
Nice observation about the caseback making it wear thinner. How brown does it look in person? I feel like it looks pretty burnt orange in the AliEx photos and in review footage on CZcams
Thanks. It depends on the lighting really. As you can see from the difference between the indoor and outdoor door shots.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR ah right, thanks for the info
You could grab this for £156 in the recent sale.which was a steal. The date window isnt working for me on this one. No date would work better IMO.
I think it was too. A no date version would be good too, but I'd personally just prefer a colour matched date wheel myself.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR yes agreed. Would like to see mock up of colour wheel at 6. Very close to a great watch. Love the fume dials.
Too thick for a 3 hander IMHO. Wish they would slim this down under 12mm, which would also reduce the weight (GADA's for me should be under 12MM and under 140g sized up)
It does wear smaller than the measurement suggests, due to the crystal and case back making up some of that. The actual mid case isn't that thick.
Depending on your wrist size, and how many links you remove, it could be around 140g... It's about that for me.
A very 1970's dial. I could imagine that on the wrist of Gene Hunt.
I do love the 70's... Despite being born in the 80's myself. I love Motown as well.
Or Jody Musgrove 😏
Thank you got red one on way 👍
Nice. Had you already ordered it, or did this help you to make your decision?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR had already ordered. These vids help but having it in your hand is totally different 👍
Same!
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR turned up today I’m very impressed will definitely be getting another one ☝️
@@davidcopeland5409 That's good to hear. Do you mean another dial option of this one, or just another San Martin?
Get rid of the crown guards and shrink the case to 37mm or 38mm…
That could look good too.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR also fix the logo keep the hexagon but get rid of the “San Martin” text and just put an “S” or “ “SM” inside the hexagon would look more clean in my opinion…
I think it looks great. I kind of wish they threw some Delphine hands on there instead to give it more of a dressy aesthetic
That would have made it more dressy. But I personally think it's good with these, as it makes it more of a GADA watch instead.
Ummm ... did they just homage the Erebus watch???
The erebus watch is also a hommage of an hommage of an hommage of an hommage..so.
It is.
Are you tempted then? If so, which dial?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR lava then moon
@@drebarthelotte5712 You can't really go with any of them though can you?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR true that, have to buy all them. Seriously good.
They’ve done better ones imo I like the gmt Aventurine dial
They are on a great run lately, so it's difficult to pick just one.

@@Doty6String I told you you wouldn't be disappointed. It puts the likes of Seiko to shame doesn't it?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR the price doesn’t make sense. Even compared to my other San martins this thing is nuts in the finishing DEPT. I may just wear this thing downtown and see how it stacks up to some Swiss stuff. I’m very curious.
Should be nicked named the les paul, great tobacco burst!

I just wish they would move away from this handset already, they've put it in like 100 watches and I'm not a fan of it.
