St James, Fowlers Pass, Stanley & Edward River Valleys Loop

- This is a long video, of a stunning ride through South Island high country. I felt any thing shorter wouldn't have done the route and scenery justice.
If you're contemplating doing this route, remember it's not a cycle way, replacement for the St James cycle way, while the McArthur Bridge is out. This a horse and tramping track not intended for bike use, so treat it with the respect it deserves.
I'll be taking Sue into the beautiful Stanley Vale but by the easier Lake Guyon route both ways.

What an epic ride and scenery to match. Very enjoyable watch.
Yes it was rather an epic. Finishing in the dark wasn't in the plan. I did have a head light which helped. I won't be rushing back too do the Stanley in a hurry. But Fowlers pass and going out through Stanley Vale, via Lake Guyon and out over Maling pass is what I'll do next time. Thanks for the comment, it's greatly appreciated.
Did you have any worries about enough battery charge or some of those river crossings.

We carried an extra battery each, which we put in before climbing Peter's Pass. Yes the river crossings we're becoming a worry as the river got bigger as we moved down it. I'm so pleased there was the 3 of us all with river crossing experience from tramping days. I was a NZ mountain safety council instructor many years ago so one what to do. It's an awesome trip but not for the inexperienced, as it isn't a bike track it's a horse and tramping route, not even a track. If I was to do it again, I'd spend the night at Stanley Vale hut, I'm editing a video at the moment of the ride I did over Fowler's, spending the night at Stanley Vale hut then out over Makings pass. They did make it hard work, when ma handling them. Yes unless your wife is like Rachael, it would be best to take her in and out via Lake Guyon, which is what I'm going to do with Sue sometime. Thanks for comenting.
