chariah alexander In my opinion, Vikings is one of the most entertaining show. Fast but not too much, battle when it's needed (with real weapons, you feel the battle), but it's not just about battles, a good story that reach your heart, with characters to whom you can identify yourself and finally this whole Norse/Christian opposition which add another dimension to the show ... Plus, it's fucking badass vikings ! It's not just about good guys against bad guys. The season 1 is good, but you NEED to watch the 2nd season. I've seen an interview with Einar about this song. He said it is very important to him. He always takes the runes he sings about close to his heart. Naudir means need in sense of ultimate need - on the edge between life and death. It's a spark, that brings one back to life and thus makes him stronger. Without it one would die. While recording this song Einar went to the mountains alone, wandering in the cold, not having any warm clothing. When he felt, that the power of life abandons him, he started singing. After I've heard this, I've started to like this song and Einar's perfomance in general much more.
Kvitrafn, the lead singer, said in an interview regarding this song, that pre-recording, he fastet for two days, then walked almost naked up a mountain during winter, to reach a stone refuge. He did the recordings in that refuge.
bohemianwriter1 I went up a mountain in Tromsø in T-shirt in February. Got too warm due to the steep incline - so it's definitely possible, if you're build for cold climates (meaning, you get warmth easily). But i don't think it is possible if it's too windy.
Northern85Star "But i don't think it is possible if it's too windy" Only if you're strung up on mushrooms and mead. Army training in winter is always fun. Jumping onto ice cold winter water, and change in the freezing cold. What warm memories.
Música de excelente factura. Puedes escuchar instrumentos ancestrales y lo más impresioonante es el trabajo de las voces con armonias muy antiguas. Me proporciona mucha paz.
***** I will be glad I hear they I heart and last.fm play their albums. I haven't tried yet but am going to. I have not listened to any other music in the last week and a half. Lol
I am so sad Vikings season is over, but they really opened our minds to their world. If it wasn't for the show I would have not known about Wardruna =)
This music is amazing, for few months im listening to wardruna without break, listening to this music makes me feel awesome and powerfull. Im proud of this part of humanity !
As an Australian of Swedish descent, I love relaxing to this music that comes from my cultural roots.I look back on my ancestors and I see what a proud people they where, strong, brave and daring. Truly fearless people.
You dont know how awesome the ancient viking "feel" is before you have tried to eat Psilocybe semilanceata(liberty cap) while listening to this music! It is mind blowing! You awaken something dormant in you and you just want to go out in to the pine woods and feel the rain on your body while the thunder roars over the distant fjords.. It is something sacral/metaphysical about it
Dron Red lol, yeah, but Peter K has a point. It can suck rather hard to live here for like 6 moths of the year. Even though we are kind of used to barely seeing the sun when its winter ^^ But we appreciate summer like crazy though
you can feel winter when hearing this piece. It's warm here in Southern Ontario and it dropped 5-10 degrees when I put this on. beautiful work Wardruna! Love from Canada.
Man this music has such an impact on me, i feel like my life has a purpose,a calling even though i know life is boring as shit. But still, this music is so powerful god dammit
+mweh kweh You don't need to die in battle to be liked by Odin, that is a myth. Follow these noble virtues and you will be OK. Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Industriousness, Self Reliance, Perseverance. Odin does not demand that you kneel, he demands that you stand.
+mweh kweh No me digas que todavía hay gente como tu que cree en esos dioses paganos, por favor amigo es mas factible que exista Jesucristo, Ala o buda, esa religión no hace ni el 1% de la población
I was going to listen to just one song. I haven't moved away in over an hour. It's Christmas Day and this comes up and and through all of that. Thank you. PS. My genetic testing shows northern contributions that aren't reflected in our family history. That pleases me. A homecoming then.

***** Your labeling of Jesus as the "stick nailed Jew" only (and clearly) shows your lack of understanding of Christian teaching. But let me ask the following: who created the forces of nature? If there is no creator of them and they somehow "just came into existence", why are they respectable at all? How can you equate each old (be it Norse, Greek, Egyptian etc.) god to a "force of nature", when they in multiple cases represent aspects of mere human nature, or human ideas about the structure of the world?
Respect to our Nordic cousins from your Celtic Pagan cousins in Ireland. Our bloodline has been entwined through the paths of the old paths. Stay true and follow the old ways of Mother Nature, Morrigan, Odin and Bridgit. Saoirse
Ja. Vor allem weil die meisten mit völlig falschem historischen Wissen (durch Vikings) darauf kommen und sich für Wikinger halten, obwohl sie von völlig anderen Teilen der Erde kommen.

Agreed. but sadly one of the most misunderstood cultures in history. Savage, blood thirsty, rapists, axe wielding maniacs with "horned helmets"... is what comes to many uneducated minds. and we have Hollywood/media to thank for that...
TheShaunken Oh how I agree. Our ancestors were farmers, poets, skalds, lawyers, traders (got as far as the Silk Road at least) mystics, magicians and so much more. The losses that sadden me most are the martial arts (It's pretty obvious that the Norse had their own version of martial art) and those of the seidhr.. (The latter of which we are working to reclaim.) It was a very rich and complex culture and I sorrow that so much of it was lost to the memory of time. The sad thing about history is that literate (writing) traditions make history rather than oral trads. Oral tradition is fantastic for strengthening the memory, but the moment you kill the last person WITH that memory, you destroy the tradition itself.
I am a Tatar from Tataristan (Russia). This melody is very similar to our battle songs. I can say that it is the same melody which we chant and some words what he sings I can easily understand. Is it an old Viking song? This is kind of Altaic culture. Whatever Perfect performance!
+Kamal Karimov It is a interpretation of an old viking song. There may be a historic and etymological link between the two people. The viking Rus would have traded and probably fought together against other invaders. That is a very good and informative thing to post my friend. Cheers!!!
+Kamal Karimov Scandinavians have nothing to do with tatars, neither does any other european folk, except maybe for hungarians, but even they aren't greatly linked to you. It is not an altaic culture, don't mess them up. There could be words that have influenced your language, but they should have gone through great changes by now. Be sure you are positive about the meanings of the words you claim to understand, I doubt that words could have stayed the same for one thousand years.
Well, there you have it folks... It is pretty clear we aren't dealing with an expert in linguistics and etymology in that last post. Nor are we dealing with someone who has working knowledge of Latin. Yes, it is not unusual for two cultures that border one another for millenia to have words that are borrowed from one another. As Latin demonstrates, for one quick example, it is not only possible for a word to remain the same over a thousand years, it actually has happened quite a bit. As Latin clearly shows to be the case. That is irregardless of the difference between the two cultures; or even the crossing of language families.
That's because Latin was used throughout the years in the catholic church. In our case we have a dead language called Old Norse. Maybe you should keep that in mind and perhaps you misunderstood my reference that scandinavians aren't linked to tatars. I meant that they do not share the same culture, they have traded with each other and that ofcourse is not a matter of debate. There is no need for unnecessary insults
I don’t know why this is but every time I listen to this I have had visions and/or thoughts about the great dinosaur extinction and what it must have been like for them. Must be because of the foreboding musical tone this song has.

A Masterpiece this album.

Well it's fitting that it reminds you of metal because if I'm not mistaken most of Wardruna's music is classified as Norwegian folk metal. C:
hehe i found out about vikings the tv show threw wardruna they are great! :D
I got to "if I had a heart" to "Viking" music and now I wonder if the show is actually good

Exercise to this and the song's meaning will appear to you in each breath.
