It is a reference to Odin, one of his names was the wandering one, he sometimes picked up people that he liked on his travels (he was also the god of death) and as the leader of the Valkyries (and father to several) he made sure they followed him after their death IE Your Dog is now following Odin on his travels as the wandering one.

As a Scandinavian american, I love studying my ancestors, the Vikings, and their almost forgotten religion. I find it interesting how Valhalla is still used in movies and TV shows even though the culture itself is almost unknown
Putting the warrior on a pedestal and giving them a special place in the afterlife is partly because of needing men to fight and die to protect ones nation from its enemies and the reason some tribes and nations remained free and other where conquered even genocided and such warriors where needed for all the ages even the most ancient including the times of nomads before it was warm enough to farm in Europe and in modern times long before the earth warmed and farming beginning allowing the rise of civilizations and empires. Civilizations rides on the backs of farmers and the reason the gods of the hunts could be the oldest gods worshiped and in the age of the Germanic tribes Freya and Thor where believed to be the most favorite gods of the people . Thor bringing thunder and rain and Freya having to do with the fertility of the soil. gods that have connections to farming and what we know in the modern ages as being practical .
Valhalla is just one of the many afterlife of the ancient Germanic peoples that is designed for the chosen warrior who fall in battle who will spend the ages training for ragnarocks and the first pick of the fallen warrior belongs to Freya. goddess of fertility. who is said to make the soil fertile for farmers with Thor bringing the storms and rain and Thor is known for fighting the ettin/giants and growing angry when men forsake their oaths being one of the more honorable and wrathful gods and woman who die or fall in child birth go to Odins wife. My Haida Ancestors had a place like Valhalla for our Warriors that died in battle to go to. It was called House of Sun, considered a highly honourable death. Naturally they too burned the bodies of the ones who fell in battle. The bones put in Bentwood Boxes and buried. The Chiefs however had their Bentwood Box high on their Totem Pole. Haida were described as "Vikings of the North West Coast".

I haven’t been able to stop watching this ever since I found it a couple of days ago. Forgive me if this sounds crazy, but this song speaks to me. A couple of nights ago I found out from my grandmother I have Viking ancestors that settled in York, so I have Viking blood and it’s part of my heritage. This is the part that sounds crazy, but this song has awakened something in me I didn’t know was there. Amazing song!!
