Currently balancing High school work, community college work, my one ongoing extracurricular, and now practicing on drawing(just started yesterday), and now I'm registering for my SAT as well plus my Job, all during my second half of my senior year. I haven't even started my portfolio yet...
Gonna be in a process of asking artists for help so I can get better efficiently and effectively just in time for due dates in June(things going to get hectic now xD)
thank you for this! i am a freshman in high school and i am starting to prepare for collage and kcai is my dream school! this was very helpful!
Awesome! So glad to hear
hey twins!! we're both sophomores now wanting to get into kcai
I also want to go to kcai! Did you guys make it?
Next year will be my last year of high school and I now have like half of my portfolio done. I love ur art and your explanation of everything was rly great, I’ve seen hundreds of portfolio videos but I think that this is the 1st one that took pressure off of applying to art school. Thank you so much!!
Same!! Im so scared😭
HOLD ON! NOT ART RELATED BUT YOU SOUND SO SWEET ;-; Your voice is so calming, it's like... a medicine to keep anxiety away. Sorry, I have to say positive things when I see it. Thank you for the tips!
I love how you explain the importance of what classes you should worry about such as AP or IB. Incoming my senior year of high school, I am stressing on if I should do the extra AP math and science classes or not. I’m worried on if it’ll affect the chances of getting admitted to my dream art college :’)
I really don’t want to go to a regular college since I feel like I won’t feel the drive of other art students around me wanting to achieve a similar goal if that makes sense? Even though others around me recommend community college, I just don’t know if that’s right for me.
Btw your video helped so much and you are so kind to include your journey and experiences. Lovely earrings too💕💕💕☺️
Thank you so much! Now having graduated, I think there’s so many different paths that could have been right. I’m grateful for my time at kcai but I know I would’ve also had a fun time at a state school for the other clubs they offer (like an orchestra or theatre club). Picking a school can be stressful but at the end of the day you gotta do what’s best for you. Good luck with your last year of hs, make sure to enjoy it as much as you possibly can lol, and I believe you’ll do the thing that’s best for u!!

Thanks! Ofc, I hope it helped ya out :]]
Thank you so much for this. So MUCH. I hate how underrated you are. This video has been by far the most helpful one I've seen among the last couple of months. I'll start working on my portfolio now ") Thanks again! ✨ Also do you have any tips on applying for art majors at non-art based schools? Tia
Yo thanks for your kind words! I'm glad that it helped ya out, I know the application process can be extremely confusing. I didn't apply to a ton of non-art-specific schools however from what I picked up, they are focused more on grades and less on having a portfolio. Probably show your passion for art in the essays and why you want to attend that school specifically (like specific programs, clubs, or curriculum that they have that you like).
@@AftonLin aaa thank you so much! You're a gem

Hey everyone, I hope this video helped to give you insight on the application process for art school! Just know that this is what worked for my particular school and that every school is different when it comes to scholarships. Most schools will have a page online showing what scholarship opportunities they have! And if not, you can always contact the specific school that you are interested in. There are so many options and I know that it can be overwhelming, however, websites like niche.com and others help with navigating this. Also, I can only speak for my experience as a US citizen applying to a US school and I unfortunately do not know the process for international students. I am not an admissions counselor or someone who admits people into colleges. Please contact the specific school you are curious about for more in depth information regarding the admissions process 💗
Thank you for making this video. I've subscribed. Bravo for getting all that free funding for your education. And I really enjoyed your colourful portfolio. Your very talented.
We are in the UK. Hopefully we can find something similar for our Arty Daughter.
Ahh thank you! Your video made me feel a little better considering the fact I have no experience on making a portfolio. My sketchbook a the moment is filled with all pencil drawings, so I definitely need to work on adding some ✨pizzazz✨ I love how humble you were and how calm your video was. I’m starting my senior year in high school and I was stressing because I bombed my ACT. My dream school is SCAD and I’m hoping it won’t interfere with my chances. Anyways, you’re an awesome person and I hope the best for you 💕
thank you so much for making this video! your camera quality is soo good lol which one do you use?
Thanks! I used a canon rebel t6i for this vid!
Oh my god I'm so scared I'm in 10ty grade and I want to be an artist but I'm really worried that my art is not good enough can you give me some advice plz it'll be very appreciated
Hey! I love this video😊 Im a rising senior who starts school in less than a week🙃it really calmed me down with the whole college applying process, so thank you😅 do you have any tips on where to find good scholarships or researching art schools in NY?
I’m glad it could help! I’m not from NY but scholarships.com has a lot! A lot of college websites also show scholarship info. And tbh I just use google/niche.com to find schools and things lol
@@AftonLin thank you😊
Nice
Thanks bb
I honestly like how cool and collected you are. I'd definitely want to be friends w you if we met 😌🌼
Hi can you recommend me a sourse for e portfolio and making a website is blow my mind and end up not doing it there's no one to help me I'm worried about e portfolio i learned a lot through your video thanks
Canva is a great website to arrange photos and text for free along with google slides. For photo editing, picsart, polarr ($25/year), and gimp work well!
@@AftonLin actually I don't have a laptop and it seems not working on andriod . 😓😔
Dang. Pics art should work on an android! Also for your portfolio, it doesn’t need to be heavily edited anyway. A free photo editing app should do the trick. Most schools will have you submit one file at a time in slideroom
Who painted that painting in the top left is it like a famous painter?
yeah, it cost me like 1 billion dollars.
Did you paint that?
@@sfrancoeur4332 no iggy painted it for me on the day we started dating
@@AftonLin oops, I thought I commented on his comment. That's what I was asking

Does KCAI balance school and work well?
Hey! That’s a great question. It really depends on what department you go into because some departments, such as illustration, require more credits than others. I think it definitely is a lot of work and they do ask a lot of students, however, I have been able to work throughout my time here (though I did take a break from work junior year and the 2nd semester of senior year). Most people at KCAI have part time jobs and do things out side of school, but they do definitely require a lot of credits and unless you are transferring some from high school, people usually have to do 2 18 credit hour semesters. The latest classes end at 10pm, but depending on what you sign up for, you can avoid that. Most studio classes, along with the earlier liberal arts and electives, start at 8am. KCAI’s website has a whole breakdown for major requirements if you’re curious as well!
Are varsity sports at all a good thing for applying to an art school?
Tbh my school didnt have any athletic teams besides a rec soccer and volleyball group, however, I have seen some schools that have more “professional” or “serious” teams that might consider varsity more. However, I think if you wanna do it for fun then you should! It could def make u stand out I think
