This is the final tribute to the Sovereign of the Seas of 1987 - 2020 of Royal Caribbean/ Pullmantur Cruises.
MS Sovereign (formerly MS Sovereign of the Seas) is one of three large cruise ships of the Sovereign class operated by Pullmantur Cruises and formerly by Royal Caribbean International.
She sailed on her maiden voyage on January 16, 1988, and was initially based at the Port of Miami.
In 1998 and 1999, the Royal Caribbean International cruise company was fined US$9 million because Sovereign of the Seas had repeatedly dumped oily waste into the ocean and tried to hide this using false records, including fake piping diagrams given to the US Coast Guard. Because the company was and is incorporated in Liberia, Royal Caribbean argued that this case was not in the jurisdiction of US courts.[6]
Her refurbishment in November 2004 was the subject of the Travel Channel mini-series Dry-Dock, A Cruise Ship Reborn.[7] Throughout her time with Royal Caribbean she sailed cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean out of Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida. These cruises visited Coco Cay, one of RCI's privately owned islands, in the Berry Islands group.
In November 2008 Sovereign of the Seas was transferred to the fleet of Pullmantur Cruises, a Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd subsidiary, and renamed MS Sovereign. Sovereign set sail on its first voyage with Pullmantur Cruises on March 23, 2009.[4] Similar to other ships in the same class, Sovereign has a multi-deck atrium lobby and a top-deck, funnel-mounted lounge with panoramic views of the sea. The ship's facilities include nine bars, five restaurants, four pools, a spa and a casino.[8]
In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the interiors of this ship and the MS Monarch were partly dismantled. According to reports, "everything of value" was removed.[9] This follows separate reports that the Pullmantur fleet was being moved into "cold lay-up."

The year 1988. I won a Snap-on- Tools contest and we set sail on "Sovereign of the Sea" by Royal Caribbean International January of 1989.What wonderful and friendly crew. The ship had 90 % of the people on it that week where Snap-on-Tools contest winner with there wives or girlfriends. We owned the ship for a week! Special gala events onboard. Had a blast. Shot 10 out 0f 10 skeet of the stern of the ship. They were taken bets on me ! Nobody else could hit any targets. The ship was beautiful inside and out. The Champaign bar was amazing. Coming into port was beautiful every morning. I will always treasure our time on her. Rest in Peace ole girl you will be missed. A part of my youth just died.

Our first cruise ever was on this majestic ship (pre-refurb). We loved the week, and loved that ship. A souvenir Sovereign magnet is stuck to our refrigerator, to this day.
Sovereign and that entire cruise experience were perfect - just the right mix of alone time, making friends, lounging in the sun, and entertainment. Just the right size and offerings on board for seven wonderful days. Years later we cruised on Oasis. It was fun, offered more bells and whistles, but delivered an in-your-face, sensory overload atmosphere that had us thinking back to the perfect Sovereign experience. (OK, some of that might be age, but I can't help that ...)
So sorry to see her, and that cruising experience, go. And a beautiful job on this video - wife and I got choked up watching it. Thanks to all who had a hand in producing it!

I know there are newer ships that are this, that, etc. But, I still say the Sovereign class is one of the most beautiful ships made. The Oasis is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but just the Sovereign was I guess classy and elegant. To compare, like the classic Mustangs, Firebirds, Chargers, beauty is timeless.

First and only cruise ive ever been on so far. It was in 1998, i was just a 13 year old kid. I had the time of my life. Royal Caribbean/Sovereign of the Seas was so beautiful, the crew was amazing and i will NEVER forget it. Seeing how old it is made me realize how old im getting. Didnt realize it was built in 88, i think it said as i was looking this ship up. I was going to see if i could go back on the same ship.. So thats sad, but thats just the way it is. I really remember the super still smooth glass like water somewhere in the middle of the ocean. I never knew the ocean sat still like that. I remember we were behind the Disney cruise liner and could hear their music over the water about a mile away. One of my favorite parts of the ship was the huge glowing blue anchor symbol that lit up over the water from the top of the ship. If i remember correctly it had 14 floors and the cafe, breakfast place was called the Wind Jammer i think. Reading these comments it was great to see how many others enjoyed this ship as well. God bless

My first cruise was on a small ship (S.S. SeaBreeze) in 1992. The Seabreeze was docked directly ahead of the Sovereign of the Seas. I remember looking up at the bow of the Sovereign towering over the stern of the SeaBreeze and thinking "what a monster!" Little did we know what was to come as years passed and newer and larger ships appeared. But Sovereign was the first of her kind and the beginning of a new era of cruising.
Farewell, Sovereign. You will live on in the memories of those who sailed you.

One of the few cruisers to actually still have a ocean liner like design, with her design partially based on the SS Normandie, mainly below the waterline and a bit on the stern. At least Majesty survived 2020 though she’ll inevitably meet the same fate as more 10000 people floating apartment blocks are built.

This is sad for me to see, i was one of the Honduran Crewman for this ship in 01/20/88 i did not sail it, i stayed undocumented in the U.S but i had the opportunity to watch it docked at Miami Cruise Terminal, while i was residing at 17 Avenue Northwest and 33 St in Miami, eventually i became a U.S citizen in 9/22/2004, and i had wanted to sail it as a passenger, too bad she's gone since 2020!!

A shame as the Sovereign Class ships were some of the last to incorporate elegant curves in their exterior design. The 'Normandie' inspired stern was beautiful-something that no new cruise ships will have due to the cost. Hopefully the last Sovereign Class ship Majesty of the Seas has a few more years of service ahead but in today's crazy world that may not happen.

The joy and happiness that these ships have given loyal customers over the relatively short carreers is heartbreaking . Decision to scrap means that despite many other uses that the ship could be put to , the owners are so strapped for cash that they accept the first stupid silly offer from a breakers yard .......Its criminal . The sooner Carnival, royal Carribean and Norwegian are bankrupt , the better the world will be . Ships like this with her passenger capability could surely be put to use as an accommodation ship for , migrants, prisoners, quarranteen. theaters of war , hospital ship, disaster area fast response ships , and equipped with hospital on board , could be usefull in any situation but no......scrap metal price now if you please .
