    Thanks. I learned more in 15 minutes here than I have everywhere else I've gone. Total beginner in ON1 here; I've been playing in PS for decades, though. I'll take any help you want to give on how to use ON1. (Using bracket keys makes the brush smaller or larger, but I'm guessing you know that and didn't want to confuse people.)

    • @kieranhayesphotography

      Thank you and glad it helped a bit, there is a full lisst of shortcuts in the menu and you can even customise them which is very handy also. Great for people that use other software also. Ya, I just didn't want to overload or confuse people, you can get way too technical about these demos very quickly and lose a lot of people. Anyway thanks again and have a great holiday season.

    Great! Your slower pace and careful, complete explanations are greatly appreciated.
    I have the Nikon Z50 and On1 Photo Raw 2024, both fairly new so trying to learn these higher, more complicated tools at 78 seems much more challenging to me. My Nikon D 800 and Photoshop CS6 felt like my left and right hands. Thanks for your more thoughtful method.
    Often in Photo Raw 2023 I relied on duplicate layers. Sometimes I’d have 4 or 5 layers. My focus on each layer often just one part like the head, another the body and perhaps two for different background areas. Then I’d paint out the unwanted parts in each layer adjusting the desired area to my precise liking. In On1 PR24 it seems more emphasis is on using adjustments, filters and styles in one layer as you did in this and your previous tutorial.
    I subscribed. Looking forward to your tutorials.

      Hi Paul, yes just like you I was always a layers man and that's what I have been used too. Over the last two years I have really tried to streamline my workflow and keep it as simple as possible and this usually works for me. I am of the thinking that I would prefer to spend the time taking the photos then editing them :-)
      Really glad it helped a bit and enjoy the Z50 that is a great camera.

      Hi Mark, thanks for the feedback and yes I have a portrait editing video on my to do list for next week, I am not sure I will get into that much detail in a single video as it would be like two hours long knowing me.... I will do a basic one first (which will cover a few of the items you mentioned) and I will do a more in depth video or videos on the other features as I go on. I have a backlog of videos to do here atm and not a lot of time to do them sadly.

    Is this the way you proceed, in editing your images?
    I still have a lot of crashes, the program quitting unexpectedly.
    If I use Ai, I have to turn it down quite a bit to make the effect look natural (sometimes the image is better without it).
    How do you use Noise & Sharpening? What do you do to get the optimum sharpness? I like to apply both (noise & sharpen) to all my images. But most times the picture are too sharp.

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi Stan, no I don't edit my images in that order it was just me editing while talking and just showing a few of the features etc... I am putting up a video on how I edit my landscapes in ON1 in the next 3 days or so and that will be a bit more like how I normally edit my shots. Brilliance is still a work in motion is the way I see it, its good sometimes and other times it's not so good but I find often times it gives me a good base for an edit. Every now and then I try a shot and think wow that just worked. In a few years I am sure we will all be editing this way. I have a section on sharpening in the next video also which might shed a bit more light on that. I am not one for a super sharp look most of the time.

    im with ON1 Photo Raw for some years now and always liked it . I even gave up LR 2 years ago. Now with 2024 I first thought there's something wrong with my desktop , but NO !!!
    I have serious speed issues even on a otherwise fast machine. Crashes too unfortunately . Can only hope that things will improve with the next updates as it appears that I am not alone.
    Else I must consider going back to 2023 as that worked better for me.

      Hi, Sorry to hear that, not sure what's going opn there... Are you a PC or Mac user. I am running PR24 on a PC and it's working perfectly for me and noticably faster than PR23. In saying that I built it 4 year old machine but it's still pretty fast, running on 5.2ghz on all 8 cores with 16 threads, it's running off an m.2 ssd drive and I have 64gb of ram with an RTX-3080ti as my GPU. Has it finished updating your catalog? That can be a bottle neck at the start.
      Maybe reach out to them or if you want to send me on your system specs and issue I can pass it onto them.

      Also I only have my chrome browser & ON1 open and wanted to check a help file in ON1 Photo Raw 2024 max. I was in the process of editing just one picture with 2 layers whilst attempting to open the help file. The program just closed without any error message . That is a first one for me ....

      I would highly reccomned you contact ON1 support, they will probably ask for your Log File which could very well help them diagnose the issue you are having. I had a weird glitch before with a Beta version and sent in the Log File and they sorted before launch then.

    For what it is worth to those experiencing crashes, that problem with 2023.5 went away completely when I replaced my 7 year old I7 desktop with an more expensive I9 MSI gaming notebook computer. By completely I mean no crashes, period. Now with 2024, I also have no crashes and Brilliance AI works very fast as advertised. These On1 Raw programs are very processor and graphics power needy, which eliminates their use on my six year old Dell notebook that does work with 2022. So progress and performance comes with a price.

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Philip, that's exactly it. You need a sold CPU and a nice GPU to really get PR2024 at its absolute best. Then again most advanced editing platforms are nearly the same now. Thanks for watching.

      @fenraven Před 6 měsíci

      Reading about all the crashes here, I'm glad I was finally forced to upgrade my laptop. It's not gaming speed, but I have 32G of RAM, which really helps with graphic processing software. I have not ever experienced a crash using ON1 or any other program.

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi, I am not having any real issue with Tack Sharp AI being slow. Has PR2024 updated the catalogue already or have you just installed it? It could also be down to the processing power or Gpu in your computer. Is your computer fairly new?

      actually they are so excited about all the great features they overlook the file management, how to save the edits if you want to come back to an image, integration with LR, since i am heavily invested in my filing system with LR, etc. Perhaps i am overlooking the obvious, but some clarity for file managment would be helpful.thanks,

      I am so glad to hear someone else complain about hearing and understanding this guy. I try to follow the tutorials and videos to give myself a better understanding of the program but this is a total waste of my time. Looks like the "upgrade" is a total waste of my time and also money. Money factor is even worse after I convert from Canadian $ to US $.
      Very doubtful if I will get much out of this program. It used to be fun using Photo Shop and working with ON1 to do my sublimation work but, I am getting too old to learn all this and find that I invested my money AND trust in programs that are getting more expensive or like Photoshop where they use what I call Ransomware to keep you paying for a subscription every year. I will give it a try but for now I am shutting down and may try again next year to learn a bit from this program.

This also isn't my day job, my day job is being a photographer. I only do this as I love talking about photograph and getting people interested in it. Never for one moment did I think people would really start viewing my videos and I am fully aware they are not for everyone. Sadly, just opening the program is PAINFULLY slow.Mac and PC. And the AI crop/fill is terrible, terrible, terrible at filling in area, like simple backgrounds in portraits. Otherwise, I do like the new version. Oh, and healing, and other brushes are pretty terrible at filling in areas... always blocky/blochy

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi Rex, yes opening it is not instantaneous by any means. I just tried it several times there now and it takes about 17 to 19 seconds to fully open and be working on my PC, as a contrast I tried Lightroom and it takes on average about 16 seconds to open fully. So while it's not faster than LRC it isn't too bad either, Like you I wish it was a bit faster though. The AI crop/fill has issues in it alright. I have noticed that one myself. The healing brush so far has worked fine for me but I am only using it on small areas. All in all though the software is certainly going in the right direction with a great aray of tools in it. Thanks for the feedback, I will pass it on to them.

      I have no issues using the software. A 13 Gen I7 with 16gb RAM along with Nvidia 4070 Ti opens quickly. Going from browse to edit is quick and edited images are a breeze. My only complaint so far is the company announced that custom camera profiles aew to be included in this version. I have .dcp files that were created for 2 of my infrared Nikon's that are needed to expand the latitude of color temperature. So far, the white balance is not quite tight. Whenever I red-blue channel mix, the colors aren't satisfying. For editing my raw IR images, it's back to Lightroom 5 and CS3 to channel swap.
