- We finished our pre-season campaign in fine style by thrashing Sevilla 6-0 to claim the Emirates Cup, with Gabriel Jesus making an instant impression on his new supporters by grabbing a hat-trick.
A capacity crowd were treated to four goals in the opening 20 minutes, courtesy of braces from Bukayo Saka and Jesus, with the Brazilian striker completing his treble on 77 minutes before Eddie Nketiah got in on the act in the final minute.
The performance, clinical finishing and clean sheet ensured it was a wonderful afternoon’s work for Mikel Arteta’s men, who look well-prepared for the Premier League starting in six days’ time.
The atmosphere was buoyant at Emirates Stadium before kick-off, which only increased during the opening 20 minutes as we ran riot and found the net four times to stun our opponents.
The scoring began in the 10th minute when Martin Odegaard clipped a ball over the top for Saka to chase, who was inexplicably pushed over by Karim Rekik, leaving referee Andy Madley no option but to award a penalty, which Saka stroked home.
The lead was swiftly doubled two minutes later when Ben White’s crossfield pass picked out Jesus on the left touchline, who then found Granit Xhaka. After edging his way into the box, his low cross was parried by Bono into the path of the onrushing Jesus, who had the simple task of tucking the chance away.
And after giving the majority of supporters their first glimpse of his famous telephone celebration in Arsenal colours, he was at it again two minutes later. Again the threat came down the left but this time through Gabriel Martinelli, and with the Sevilla defence sleeping, a teasing cross allowed Jesus to race in behind and dispatch the delivery into the net.
Sevilla had completely lost their heads, and that was typified by our fourth goal. A routine pass back to Bono saw the goalkeeper fluff a weak clearance straight to Saka, whose first-time effort trickled through the shot-stopper’s legs to cap off an incredible start.
Glee was spreading around the stadium, and none more so than on the pitch, with Arteta’s team producing plenty of slick passing and looking threatening every time they entered the final third.
During a couple of rare forays forward for the visitors in the first half, Youssef En-Nesyri flashed a shot just wide before heading straight at Aaron Ramsdale - a feat Thomas Partey repeated following a corner, before a remarkable half ended with Bono clawing back some redemption by making a double save to deny both Jesus and Odegaard, and then denying Martinelli one-on-one.
It was a much tighter affair immediately after the break, with Rekik heading a corner just wide 10 minutes after the restart, but we were working through the gears again and after Jesus dragged an attempt from 25 yards wide, Oleksandr Zinchenko picked out Odegaard in the box but he blasted over.
Midway through the second half there was almost a delightful goal to cheer when Partey chipped a ball over the backline for Xhaka, and his side-footed volley narrowly missed the top corner, but on 77 minutes the long wait for another goal ended.
A Martinelli corner caused havoc as Gabriel forced Bono into a close-range save, but Jesus was on hand to drive home the rebound, complete his treble and register his seventh goal in just five pre-season outings.
White almost put the cap on the result when a clever free-kick routine saw him attempt to lob Bono but it drifted wide, but in the final minute a sixth was added when Xhaka showed good skill to play in Martinelli, and after carrying the ball 40 yards the Brazilian unselfishly squared to Nketiah to complete the rout.
The final whistle was greeted with rapturous applause by those in attendance, who stayed to watch Odegaard get his hands on the Emirates Cup trophy to mark our sixth triumph in the competition’s history.

Gabriel has always had this knack of scoring goals. If you remember when he first came to City, he scored a flurry of goals and Agüero for the first time had his place threatened, which ultimately led him having to adapt his game for Guardiola. He'll be able to showcase more at Arsenal simply because he'll play more games. I wish him the best of luck.

Every single goal Gabriel was involved with gave me goosebumps. It’s not that they were anything insane, not howlers from outside the box, not dribbling through the whole team, just being EXACTLY where he needed to be and pushing into that position with MENACE. That second goal of his… perfection in timing, perfection in positioning, and perfection in the finish. Having a team that shows this drive, the energy, the desire, it makes me proud to be a fan of this club. So hopeful for the season, looking forward to see the new young front three, Saliba being a rock star at the back, and just having fresh, young, eager players, esp ones that come from our youth clubs, to watch and cheer on. The Gunners are looking fearsome this season. Proud of my club, proud of Arteta for bringing these boys together and for injecting some much-needed Arsenal vigor into this club, and i can’t wait for some CL play next season 😈 COYG!!!!!

As a Chelsea fan, I've gotta say, before Jesus was signed I was saying to myself "he's gonna be unreal for them" as soon as the rumours were circulating I could picture him in that red shirt being LETHAL up front.
The club has done GREAT business this window and they're looking so good.
Props to the ownership and boardroom for having faith in Arteta when things were looking rough. It paid off in the latter half of last season and it's already paying dividends before the next one has started

Xhaka's redemption arc has been phenomenal, despite everything he stayed a consummate professional and has always loved the club even when the fans did not love him back. With hindsight now it's clear to see that he was simply a scapegoat for what was a terrible team that didn't allow him to play to his strengths.
Xhaka plays well as a number 8 and not the pivot. There his mistakes are well covered and not costly.
I remember Wenger's instruction on xhaka years ago that he just shouldn't tackle bcs he's not a good tackler lol but man he just too love collecting cards

As a Brazilian I came to see how well Gabriel Jesus is adapting to the team and what I saw was a very familiar play style with precision crossings and quick pressuring attack. I'm not going to lie, if arsenal plays like this it's easy to cheer for this team 😂

He’s not offside because he manages to stay inside his own half when the ball is released by Granit Xhaka. Pause and see when Granit releases the ball, Martinelli makes a diagonal run to stay inside his own half. Offside rule counts only when you receive the ball in the opposition’s half. :)

I can see the Brazilian flair in this team. That fast and killer attack with quality crosses and good individuality. It is good to watch, it flows. It is not perfect, not all games will have space and let Martinelli cross so comfortably, Gabriel won’t be let alone so much, there are games they will put two glued on him. But is good to see Arsenal doing so well, good job by Edu and Arteta.

Y'all don't want to appreciate xhaka coz some of y'all be hating on this guy alot but if u watch this game and previous games this guy has been evolved in most of the goals scored and in this game at some point I thought he was a striker coz he was in the box most of the time. He is good leaving other factors constant

@@ibrahimwaka3916 yes from a city fan I know he could become the best number 9 in the world but he could never find the confidence with other world class players around. He was one of if not my favorite players at City.

What a performance from Martinelli. I loved his movement, passing, and unselfishness (4:40). Our left-hand side is pretty solid with him and Zinchenko (if Tierney remains injury-prone). Even though it's a friendly, we're up against a club that won the Europa League before. It may be different from people's perspectives, but each game must be taken seriously to improve team chemistry.
martinelli might secretly be our best player imo

Yall dont know what its like being a korean arsenal fan… everyone cheering on sonny like theyve been spurs fans all their lives. I do love son for his contributions to the korean national team, but this is the club i grew to love since i was a kid and will forever be my team.
