- Building a smartphone wooden speaker. I turned a 4ft oak board into a passive speaker for my phone. When you place the phone in the speaker, the sound is noticeably richer and louder. The speaker is made up of four- 9 1/2 oak boards with two-2 1/2 inch holes drilled in them. I also used a scroll saw to router out two channels in one of the boards to allow the sound to come out. Hope you enjoy!

Just a tip, Chad: A holesaw like that suffers from lack of chip dispersal. That's what causes burning and dulling. My solution: Score your work with the saw and then drill 3 (or so) 3/8" holes just inside or just outside the score (making sure you intersect the score), depending which piece you want to save. Now drill it, slowly, and the chips will fall through the holes. Drilling 3/4 of the way through the board and then inverting it for the finish cut makes removing the plug much easier. I like your simple design and the care you took with the details.
Great tip!
Great video! Thanks for sharing the idea and "how to" without moving the camera all over and making this video 30 minutes long. I love watching "how to" videos that are done as well as you did this one and equally informative.
Thanks Bruce for the comment. I always try to make my videos easy to follow and straight to the point.
That DIY sanding mop is brilliant!! I can't believe I never thought of that. How much time I've spent trying to sand a shape like that by hand or with a dowel! AAARRRG!
Well now you know a trick for next time!...thanks for watching!!
Great video mate! I love the finished product, and really love the sandpaper on a bolt idea! I'll be giving this project a go for sure 👍
I have an awesome speaker in my shop but I still enjoyed your build. Found your channel today and I’m liking it so far. 👍🏻
Glad you like the channel Dr. Frankenstein!
Good use of many nice garage power tools. I’m always looking for projects like this.
Thanks Derik, tools can really make projects like this fun!
DIY! Cheap and easy to build! Only needs a $15,000 full woodworking shop
This is a nicely made version. Looks beautiful. -Chad
Thanks!
Adorei o trabalho e o vídeo bem explicado, você tem as medidas para fornecer?, felicidades e sucesso amigo!
This looks like a great project but newbies like me will need a little more directions. Specially on those cut in the middle for the speaker. Dimensions and angle of cut. Other than than it looks easy.
I love ur shop dude ..wow ...by the way great job in the box ....A++++
Thank Dimitrios!
4:00 THAT IS FREAKING GENIUS!!!!
Got to get creative trying to sand!
nice tools
Great Video!
Thank you kind sir!
Very cool! Do you think the sound quality would be different if you only used 3 boards as opposed to 4?
I don't think it should matter too much...go for it and have fun with the build!
nice design. you made it look very easy with those tools. question, How did you put that sand paper on your power drill?
Thanks!...I just cut strips of sand paper, stack them all together and then put a bolt through them. Works great!

Finally someone who has all the same shitty tools as me, making something beautiful. Get tired of seeing the $3000 table saw next to the $4000 bandsaw. Nice job. Gonna make one of these.
Love the comment! I used to get a lot of hate for having so many "expensive" tools. But now so many guys on youtube have all the big money tools...I am just the average guy again.
Lol. So in order to make a DYI speaker you need to own some obviously expensive tools.
I was looking into how to do something like that, thanks for the ideas!
Hi Chad
nice project thanks to show us.
joao
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job Chad, subbed yer channel! T
Thanks! I really appreciate it!!
I want that
I'd really like to make one of these but they seem so big and shouldn't there be a power cord option? Pretty good video though, I gave it a thumbs up.
Thanks for the thumbs up! Yeah, i have seen powered option, but this was nice and simple compared to some of those.
rogener my boi
I'd like to buy it from you.
Please incluye shipping cost to Monterrey México
Hello, I just made one of these and I use it in my shop every day so I will probably just keep it. Thanks for watching!

It ain't actually a speaker, but nice job anyway..! A "passive acoustic amplifier", would be a better term.
Ha, thanks! Yeah, the passive acoustic amplifier is more accurate...I didn't really know what to call it :)

Anyone tell you that you look like Mark Zuckerberg?
Great job by the way.
Yeah, I get that from time to time:) Thanks!
so true
Yeah!! I´m sure that everybody has the same tools in theim houses. ; )
These Mickey Mouse tools???
“theim”
i watched the whole add thinking it was the video
Ha, I've done that in the past as well!
Most people who watched this probably does not have those type of tools you have so I suggest you do something that most people can do but still cool
You can technically do this using a normal handsaw, a cheap $5 holesaw and a drill, file, and sandpaper. $2 spray paint. Would take a little more time but this is an easy project ;p
Kailey: excellent project that everyone can do with whatever power tools they have in their garage. Great plan.
You’re a girl with as much talent for disguise as a giraffe in dark glasses trying to get into a polar-bears-only club
Why two holes????
The music is in mono!!
Seems a bit pointless having two holes.
If you want it louder use a bigger hole and a bigger box!
Yeah, One hole probably would have worked better. This is the first one I built and just thought it would look cool with 2 sound holes. I just enjoy the building process the most!
Yeah, build is good. I was just not sure about the two holes. keep up the good work
Woodglut plans are amazing!
rogener sr💩
