How to Make a Wooden iPhone Amplifier. Cool Pallet Wood Project!

- How to make a wooden iPhone amplifier from pallet wood. This pallet wood project is a really cool pallet project as you can make it from one pallet board, it’s super easy to make and it’s virtually free. The extra sound that comes out is quite surprising. Having said that, don’t expect it to sound like a fully-fledged designated speaker or you’ll be disappointed.
If there was one improvement I’d make, that would be to run the router through the full thickness of the second board so that the sound bounces immediately off the back of the speaker. Watch the video and you’ll see what l mean. By doing that l think you will get a bit more volume.
Before l go on...

Materials:
One length of pallet wood.
Paint of your choosing.
Wood glue.
Tools:
Router.
Straight router bit.
Hammer,
Dropsaw, or handsaw.
Hole saw. Size depending on how big you want your speaker. I used an 89mm hole saw.
Jigsaw if you don’t have a hole saw.
Drill.
Clamps.
Time to Complete.
One Weekend.
Skill level.
You need to be confident enough to be able to use a router which is fairly simple to use. Just do some practising on some practice wood first.
Well, l hope you enjoy the tutorial and l’ll see you on the next one.
MERRY XMAS!
Cheers, Uncle Knackers.

Love the way you finish your projects. No matter how simple they are, once you grab your paint and varnish they're elevated to beautiful works of art.
Thanks Beetlewing. I really appreciate the comment. Cheers
The old Boom Box... that's a catchy name, should trademark that...
🤣...🤔
I listen to Talk Back Radio all day long. I am a sucker for listening to people express their views and opinions. A fine piece of work Shane.
Thanks Ed. I'm addicted to it. There's some pretty interesting people out there. By the way, happy bday for today. Cheers mate
Thanks Shane. Cheers mate.
Good job Shane, I like how you recycle timber from a pallet to create something useful, well done Knackers and thanks for taking the time to share your work with us.
Too easy Allea. Thanks for the comment. Cheers
Great project. I use some of that non slip drawer liner stuff to support my work when routing. Works a treat.
Yeah that non slip stuff is great. I'll have to get some. Thanks for the tip and the comment. Cheers
This is GREAT. going to try this out this weekend. Thanks for the video.
Great Pallet Wood Up Cycle Shane, Appreciate you for joining in the fun, Best of Luck To our Mate Down Under
Thanks Sterling. You have some great entries and well done on organising the comp. You have a lot of people talking about it. Cheers mate and Merry Xmas to you and your family.
i like the Stratavarius context...nice phone gadget!
Hahahhaha...cheers mate 👍
Thanks for showing the mistakes/accidents as well - your videos are giving me confidence!
No worries Pat! 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Great work as always mate!
Love how chuffed you looked when you first dropped it down into place :D
Thanks Dave. That was the first time l'd tried it so l was pretty happy with the result. Cheers mate
Uncle, your the best !!!
Cheers mate! Glad you liked it 👍😁🇦🇺
best show on youtube! more pallet projects please :)
Great project. Loved the green mixed with the natural wood as well
Thanks John :-) Yeah the green really went well with the natural timber. Cheers mate
I keep a small roll of double sided carpet tape for quick clamp small projects to do my routing. Works great and easy to use.
Great tip Steven. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
nice addition to add to workshop i think...will have a crack at that when i can get back in the shed
Thanks Shane. Merry Xmas mate. Cheers
shaneconlan1 Happy new year Shane, trust you will have a creative one
Cool project Shane! I dig the colors!
Thanks Steve and well done on those drumsticks that l just saw on Steve Ramseys Channel. Cheers mate
Hey I watch your video
Brilliant little project so basic but very effective.
Thanks Paul:-)
HA HA HA! You had me totally buying that fairy tale about Stradivarius, what a knucklehead! Pallet wood rules, eh? Your films are great fun and the ideas and terrific. Well done Shane, I mean Uncle Knackers.
Yeah good old Stradivarius hahahaha...thanks for watching Bruce :-)
Nicely done! I really like the look of the back piece if wood! It has some nice character. This is yet another project I want to try!
Yeah the back turned out really nice. Cheers mate
Turned out great, and made a big difference in the sound too!
Thanks Badlands. Glad you liked it. Cheers
I think you should have used the middle board as the front so that the phone can be dropped into the slot from the top like a slice of bread into a toaster.
Also, you don't need to rout the back of the front panel as the phone is in line with the middle panel and the speaker is at the bottom right corner of the phone. You just need to rout all the way through the middle panel. This will allow you to rout a nice round edge around the hole of the front panel without wrecking it.
I’ve seen other designs on CZcams where both the front and middle panels have a phone cut-out, but while the middle panel allows the phone to slot in from the top, the front panel cut-out is slightly smaller so the phone doesn’t fall out while still allowing access to the screen.
I hope you like this suggestion.
For those who can’t be bothered making something, I’ve found that placing the phone in a plastic breakfast bowl works really well. Especially as a spur-of-the-moment thing.
I have one of these on my to do list!! Nice entry!
Thanks Chris. I guess your list is a long as mine :-) Cheers mate
LOL..good project and fun to watch. Thank you Shane.
Cheers sixxxpack. Thanks for watching.
love the wee nails tip
Nice job, really liking the final result.
Thanks Paul
Cool little project, I like it. I'll be making one of these for myself with a little tweaking on size to fit my iPhone 6Plus and I'll make it so that my phone will lay sideways in order to watch CZcams. Thanks for posting
Jeff Furr Thanks Jeff, and laying it on it's side would be a great idea. Cheers mate
+shaneconlan1 Not really. There are buttons on both sides of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, so that would mess with the access to those buttons.
Cheers uncle knackers your the man
+Darrin Nelson Glad you like it Darrin. Cheers mate
Nice project :)
Thanks for that Fabian. Appreciate the comment. Cheers
Absolutely brilliant and so simple! You bet I'm gonna try this tomorrow right away :-) Thanks mate
Appreciate the comment funkyclubber. Good luck with it. Cheers
That was super awesome! thanks for the idea.
No worries mate :-)
Thanks mate! Super easy, and useful. I might add a hole for a charging wire. Or maybe not, my wife uses her phone for an alarm clock, already to loud at 6 AM.
Thanks for that Charles. I was actually going to incorporate a hole for my charger but l thought if l added a channel for the cable it would be a spot for the sound to escape so l abandoned the idea. Cheers mate
CZcams is fantastic. I'm sitting here thousands of miles away and yet, I feel I have a number of friends entertaining me from around the globe.
I'll never meet you or the others that take the time and effort to produce the short entertaining videos.
Thanks mate. And a very happy Christmas.
Thanks Grumpywoodiam. I appreciate all your comments this year and may you and yours have a Merry Xmas and a great new year. Cheers mate.
Just love it ! What a great idea !
+Martyn Clarke-Smith Thanks mate :-)

Thanks 14 sq......glad you found the vid useful 👍👍
Love all your videos!! Best channel on CZcams thanks for all the helpful hints
Awesome!! Thanks for the feedback Joel 👍😁
Hardwood pallets are the best if you can find them. I got some mahogany, something that looks like rosewood and what might be some maple. Made a mandolin.
This looks like a good project for using up the scrap left over. I'll have to borrow a phone from the guy I work with.
Thanks for your feedback Claude. Tha mandolin would have turned out great. Well done. Cheers
cool idea mate
Cheers Gaz
like your idea... simple and efficient... to round that edge of the speaker already glued with the router, to avoid the problem You mentioned of ruining the wood with the router.... use a round over bit with a DREMEL... same roundness on a much smaller and controlled bit
Cheers Juan!....appreciate the tip mate 😁👍
Parabéns!Deus abençoe ricamente sua familia.
Súper. Gracias por compartir. Saludos cordiales desde Medellín Colombia
No te preocupes en absoluto Luis! Gracias por mirar desde Medellin Columbia 👍😁🇦🇺

A few years ago I bought a pair of bluetooth speakers for my workshop but this looks way cooler!!!
Ok, I'm waiting for you to build a violin out of pallet wood. ;) Nice job as always. After the holidays, I need to make one for my GS5.

Hey shane, like the projects, the iphone speaker block is cool, just thinking of an alteration for it.
How about making one that allows the iphone to lay sideways to allow to watch youtube vids etc on a bigger screen and place the speaker circle in the middle then have a cut out on the other side to allow the iphone to stand upright like you have it. 😊 Thx Jase
Great idea Jase! Wish l had have thought of that myself. Cheers mate. :-)
Brilliant!
Thanks MrSlodez

So simple and yet so cool - thanks for sharing, Shane. I would like to suggest that the base could have been cut on a bit of an angle so that the speaker would be pointing up rather than straight ahead. I am going to do this project with my daughter - she will get a kick out of it!
Best from up here to you and yours down under...
Thanks Craig. I cut a 10 degree angle on the bottom so that the phone wouldn't fall out. I didn't want to cut much more of an angle just in case it became a bit unstable. It's a good tip though. Good luck with the project and a Merry Xmas to you and your family. Cheers mate
Thanks for the reply, Shane! Cheers!
Craig Hartel :-)
i like the idea. But was thinking of routing an edge for the mobile on the face plate so that It doesnt fall off from it even though you gave a 10deg angle. You might have to route a a bit from the middle 'plate' as well
Good tip Terry. Cheers mate
@@diyforknuckleheads - hehe - I am still around!!
