Oh so many tips in this video. Firstly it was great to see where you actually pick up pallets and how you select the good ones. I have been guilty of just taking the whole pile, but has definitely been getting more picky lately. Also your methods of breaking down and cleaning them up are world class. I have just recently gotten the Air locker, what a difference! I was great to see how much 19 pallets can actually produce, and I can't wait to see the last magical pallet. Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰

Given that my nearest Green Shed is a cut lunch and water bag away, I'll have to make do with that old blackbutt and jarrah shit that's been lying round for half a decade. I reckon it'll scrub up OK! I made a pallet buster like you have with flat bar and a pipe at the rear to rotate on, I found the easiest way is remove outer edge of boards first then move into the middle and remove the middle. The boards lift if the middle is off first but the middle you have both sides of your pallet buster to lift it off and it's even pressure.

I look just casually at your pallet selection and I noticed what great condition they're in. It's important to start with the best product possible, even when the product is "free", when you're going to end up spending/investing soooooo much additional time into preparation. I live within a few hours of many small lumber yards that produce lots of different types of lumber for various purposes. Sometimes it's easier to get supplies from those guys, than it is to find 25 "perfect" (or at least mostly usable.) pallets.

Just for people in the UK (I am not sure anywhere else) but the blue pallets are Chep Pallets. They are a special company that insures the pallet so if items on that pallet breaks because of that pallet they will pay out for it.
The wood on them are amazing BUT they are owned so you have to check before grabbing that you can take it.

What I'd like is someone to sit under my house with me, drink my beer, eat my food, and give me a enough confidence to know that I'm on the right tack and that it's worth me doing something like this, by knocking out a couple of things and getting them sold. I've got all the tools (with the exception of a planer/thicknesser, and some are even hand me downs from my father-in-law) but lack the confidence to sit under the house and work away. I work at a paper company so I have access to lots of pallets, which I’ve used for years to make stuff. I get to high grade them and use the work truck to take them home. Recently I was picking up pallets from the pallet mill itself because we sell them retail to customers. Anyway I saw a large pile of wood and it looked like scrap. I asked the guy loading me and he said I could have all I want, they just grind them and sell the chips for fuel. So now I get my wood without having to break down pallets. That’s my tip. Find a pallet mill and see if they will allow you to take scraps. Good stuff man. You definitely make the most of those pallets. Cheers!

Could you imagine slicing the slab like a loaf of bread. Lean all these slices over at 45 degrees and glue them back together again. That would make a triangular bumpy slab. Then you cut it like you were going to put a burger in a bun and you have 2 shelves with a flat top and a decorative triangular pattern underneath.

@@dainermade Emco star is one of those old, multi function machines, disc and belt sander, bandsaw, table saw, thicknesser/planer, lathe, grinder etc. It's a useful old girl. I had to sharpen the planer blades which are the originals from 1970!

I'm interested in starting my woodworking journey as well. You've convinced me I think pallets are a good place to start. Subscribed! P.S the CZcamsr "martincitopants" sounds like your son! 😂

    09:56 $924 of "labour" time ... with $5k of equipment. 💰
still awesome to see and way more environmentally friendly than buying virgin lumber. ❤

Lol.. 20 pallets at the start of cyclone season..... me too.... I'm building a shaded potting structure from my collection.... I have full shade until 8.30am so I'm up out at 5.30am!
Then I can make an extended shade area so I can work outside... I'm also going to buy a denailing gun.... my shed is a container for now so I need shade area to work under.

As I have discovered, Wood Glues are, and can be marvelous tools. When used properly or even mildly abused, they're quite forgiving. They've saved many a project of mine over the years.

`Great vid Mark! I've been stalking your channel for a while and am about to start unashamedly ripping your ideas off :) It's been about 30 years since I last did anything in the way of woodworking but your videos have inspired me to have a crack using pallet wood to relearn. It also doesn't hurt that I can afford good tools now!!
Thanks for all your content, as seeing an Aussie doing this sort of stuff is soooo much more enjoyable than yet another American

So helpful to see 19 pallets broken down. Thank you again for doing this! Probably could speed things up if we choose similar style pallets...would it be easier or harder to use newer pallets?
