  • The C5 gets new Bilstein front and rear shocks. My friend Tre took charge and did all the hard work.
The car drives differently now. It feels much more sporty, which means you feel more imperfections on the road. It was much more comfortable before, but, thats the tradeoff I suppose.
    Equipment used in this video:
    Hardware:
    - Rode Videomic Pro
    - iPhone XR
    - Manfrotto tripod and phone clip
    Software:
    - iMovie
    - Logic Pro X; I export the audio from the the completed video and a basic EQ plugin to take out some of the harsh frequencies. I start by cutting everything below about 150hz, because we dont need that anyway in this video.
Then, I pull down the 250 and 500hz areas to reduce the throaty sounds in vocals.
I use two light compressors to bring up the quieter sounds and take down the higher ones.

FYI you don't have to take out the rear tie rods to get the shocks out. Might make it a lot easier as I did have to wrestle the socks out, but it was not necessary.

I just did all 4 corners on my C5 with the same Bilsteins and only removed the shock bolts, did not undo tie rods or arm mounts on the fronts. Just had to compress and get them out. Wasn't super hard. You start removing tie rods and arm mounts etc., you NEED TO get an alignment. Also be VERY CAREFUL with the rear shock lower mount bolt. The torque spec listed by GM is WRONG. Listed as 162 Ft Lbs but should be 107 Ft Lbs. It was updated in the early 2000's. Those bolts are Grade 9.8 and you can't just go to a hardware store and get them. GM discontinued so you have to source online used-

I've done my C5 shocks twice now and thanks for trying but this leaves out so much of the process and really misses the mark on some important parts of the process. There are much, much better vids of the process on youtube that are so much more thorough and accurate. This just kind of got my goat as it's well, awful really.
Rear shocks - How to compress the shock to get it out, and compress the new to get them in, is a big part of the install process (hint: zip ties). You left out the fact that there's a white dot on that upper bracket that should face out when installed which means it is in correctly. Also how to remove that nut from the old shock to get that top bracket plate off - you used vice grips?? There's a tool for that that costs about $3.00 and makes it so much easier.
Fronts - Again with the vice grips to hold that rod while unbolting, UGH.
No torque check of the bolts/nuts you reinstalled?
    Again, thanks for the effort.

I saw a video where he just took the shock out in the front and didn’t do any of that other disassembly. Oh well !

Unbolt the tie rod?? No, no you don't. I just did my rear shocks in my driveway in less than an hour for both. If you think this job is complicated you need to stop working on shit.

Exactly, right? Can't dis a Vette in comparison to a Civic! , C5/Z06s are categorized as Supercars. That's why I bought one.
