So pumped that you enjoyed this one, Chris! Kate and I saw it on opening weekend and had a blast. I was even reminded of a couple classics: Citizen Kane with the news reel opening that catches you up on Jack’s career and personal life, and the end gave me strong 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes.
And dude-thank you for the shout-out! It hit me by surprise and totally made my night. Just when I thought this community couldn’t be any more supportive 🙌

I knew I was going to love this movie as soon as I heard Michael Ironside providing the opening narration. David Dastmalchian has come a long way from being “that creepy guy in The Dark Knight”.

Just got out of the theater and loved it ! Did anyone else notice the Halloween 3 references with the skull, witch and pumpkin that keep popping up through the movie and it even has the vibe of the silver shamrock commercials with the devil trying to come through the tv ???

He was also in the dark knight as a small part when dent kidnapped when of the jokers men, crazy how far he’s come.
I like those slap in the face glitches of the camera to show the devils presence is known. But this is the first demonic possession performence since the exorcist where the possesion wasn’t a comedy car crash, the ability to merge 2 voices in one was creepy as hell, and throwing another voice in there to make you go, with was that? . Such a shame this wasn’t as promoted to a wider audience like they did with the few recent horror films. Now I don’t know if it was intentionally, but the wide view shots of the twin towers almost gives a vibe that what happened wasn’t going to end well
I didn’t see any trailers, didn’t know what it was about and came out of creeped out by the film, if nobody has seen it don’t watch the trailers

Great film checked out today. Great review. Not sure if anyone else did but i felt the Lilly character had a sort of a demoinic Jan from Brady bunch mannerism vibe. Great to see something new and refreshing.

Really enjoyed this film it reminded me slightly of an Inside No.9 episode (British series done by two of the league of gentlemen), specifically series 3 episode 1 called The Devil of Christmas coincidentally set in 1977. Really worth a watch if you get a chance. As for this film totally agree with you and love when a film sits in your head for a few days after.

I worked with the guys from Sharp FX on this film. Everything worked out fantastic and fit the film perfectly.

Great flick. I loved the Bohemian Grove references. Obvious issues was the use of AI (I mean in a movie that’s paying homage to the 1970’s, like really?) & the ending felt chaotic & rushed. Other than that, solid

Actually man, now that you mention it, there was a bit of “iffy” looking black vomit that threw me off for a split second! But it happened so fast. Not sure if that’s what you were referring to 😊

@@chrisstanleyofficialMy bad, I had a typo- I meant the use of AI.* The interstitials featured AI art & the set also had AI generated artwork (this was done years ago prior to the strike & the large amount of discourse concerning its use in the industry). Either way, I loved the film & David Dastmalchian & am super stoked to order the 4K Blu-ray from Umbrella. 👍

    Spoilers ahead……..
I feel like the title is a fun Easter egg in that yes he communicates with the devil on stage , but it’s also a fun poke at David’s character himself that he himself is the devil to the people around him.. he participates with the cult stuff in the redwoods , making his wife sick and getting his whole crew and some audience killed all just to get his ratings up. He has created his own hell by inviting the devil into his (and everyone around him ) lives

I saw this last night. I have to say, it was one of those films that left me looking for a video to explain the ending, which is never good. I found it a bit slow until the end. I felt that the film didn't really work. They set it up as a found footage film, but then had footage that we would not have seen (the commercial break scenes) thus breaking what they had setup in the first place. I would have loved to have see it just be a found footage film, but I know why they didn't do that. It was just a little weird to set it up as a found footage and then break that rule. But I guess they were going with the "Know the rules so you can break them" approach. It was a pretty good film over all. i was lucky enough to have a private screening at the last showing, which was cool.
