    Legend has it that old man Mahay ran a boat all the way up thru the canyon, no one else has succeeded or had the balls.

      The boat is very special and was designed specifically for this purpose, by a local Alaskan who knows the river very well. The boat needed a very strong engine, the ability to travel in shallow water, and to be able to withstand hitting lots of large rocks.
      It is an amazing boat. Thanks for watching.

    They have been running for years and I have never heard of them having any safety issues. Camped in Talkeetna just a few weeks ago actually for a little weekend trip. They had the boat parked while I was there.

    Back in the late 50's Don Sheldon landed his airplane above those rapids and floated backwards through them to rescue some military boys who thought they could run a motorized boat up the river. "“As the plane backed into the first of the combers, I felt it lurch heavily fore and aft. It was like a damned roller coaster, the water was rolling up higher than my wing tips, beating at the struts, and I could barely see because of the spray and water on the windows. All of a sudden the engine began to sputter and choke, and I knew it was getting wet down pretty good. If it had quit, I’d have been a goner, but it didn’t.”

    Boat I wish I could take up the Ottawa river rapids snd into the great lakes or the ocean for some big wave testing. I
    think it would be a perfect boat in 10-12ft of waves to move people around efficiently.

      Thanks for watching! This jet boat was specifically designed by locals in Alaska who had lots of experience with the river and the rapids. The boat's hull was shallow and flat - and it had a very powerful engine plus a very experienced driver. I don't believe any other boat could manage these rapids.

    The boat has 3 motors,1000hp ,44ft long .. would take allot to sink and chances of 3 engines failing at once is pretty slim..

    For a second I thought he was going to gun the engines and attempt to take the boat into the upstream rapid. I was thinking that wouldn't be a very good idea.

      @81STAINLESS  Před 4 lety

      Glad you enjoyed this. It was Mahay's Jet Boat Adventure - Devil's Canyon. In Talkeetna AK. We will check out the Shot over jet boat. Looks like the New Zealand trip is a bit wilder and wetter. This one spends a lot of time cruising through the Alaska wilderness to get to the rapids (which have been "ridden" only twice, with near disastrous results) - no people, lots of wildlife and early settler stories. I think there are too many big rocks in the Alaska river to go really fast.

      daman 71 they been out of talkeetna this a long long time. It’s not that dangerous really and a boat that size is pretty safe. And they do shuttles for fisherman at 60$ per person and drop you off at clear creek which is a quick trip. These devils canyon trips are probably only certain times.

      Thanks for watching our video! (There were life jackets on board.) While most of the excursion was the boat ride - we did get to sit on the open window within 10 feet of the rapids which was amazing. Had to totally rely on the sturdiness, power and design of the boat and the skill of the driver.
