#ESASummer19 Speedruns - Quake II [Any% (Easy)] by brainfluid brainfluid / brainfluid This video was recorded live at ESA Marathon. ESA Marathon is a Speedrunning Event held in Sweden twice a year.
Story: You're the lone marine named Bitterman who was diverted from main landing party by Some Cowboy. Bitterman must reunite with the other squad leaders to resume the assault against Planet Stroggos, home of the cyborgs called the Stroggs. The Stroggs are the enemies who first attacked Earth, prompting the Marines to mobilize towards Planet Stroggos and attack the Stroggs directly via the ballistic Drop Pods. PS: Nice radio man impersonation, Brainfluid and dynamic duo!
Hmm. For the runner it took about minute and twenty seconds to reach the part I've managed to get to before dropping the game. I remember trying to play this game as a kid. The default controls were basically unplayable for wee me and I wasn't able to rebind them at a time. And the atmosphere scared me. Dim lightning. Screams around. Similarly to Unreal, I've dropped it in a few minutes top. When I've returned to the game over a decade later, the game still somehow seemed scary. Took me a while to realize it's because the original Q2 somehow was missing from my version and instead of an action music I was hearing only screams and ambience. Couldn't continue playing after checking how good Q2 soundtrack is on youtube. The thought about how much I was missing was too much. Good times.
What kind of mod is that? I've been playing Quake II for years and my game never ran this fast. Here this dude can run basically twice as fast and can also twice as high compared to the original game
It's not a mod. It's a form of strafe jumping that is used to generate a lot of speed. It's the core method of fast movement dating back to the original Quake game. Look up "Quake strafe jumping". This guy probably has thousands of hours in this game and has perfected the strafe jump for maximum movement speed in most situations.
@@Zo_So96 Yep. I'm glad you refer to it as strafe jumping. A lot of people thinks that bunny hopping is what gives you extra speed. But I think this looks really fast because the FOV is so high as well.
Love those 16bit voice
4:30 “what’s the story?”
“I dunno”
