Beautiful, I can almost see Anne dancing in the corner whilst casting a roving eye across the audience at the handsome ladies 😏great song, great series and great Suranne at a beautiful portrayal 💙💜💙
Personally i watch very little TV , possibly 3-4hrs a week, so when i stumbled across this drama, i thought this may be worth a watch, purely for its historical connection to a real person, im glad i did , quality drama and this song , so catchy .
It's sometimes refreshing to see a band or duo that allows their voice & a simple musical instrument to better convey their artistry instead of a phoney auto-tune processor to do all the work & singing. *Real talent here.*
Just saw the oping episode to the show immediately went to google the song and found this AWESOME song ladies and the show is something i look forward to seeing more of
Purely by accident I found this series yesterday and I watched Season 2 episode 1 without realising what I was watching. I was captivated immediately then I searched online for Anne Lister and read fir ages about her. So then I went to Season 1 and started at the beginning. Purely addictive stuff and Suranne is absolutely spell binding as Anne Lister. The whole cast are absolutely phenomenal and one of the most exciting series I’ve seen in a long time.
These two are so in love 💞 I was once until the church made my partner choose church or me , she chose the church,we were happy and I still think about her,I have a great partner now, been together 10 years,
Its not far from the The Brontë Sisters home as its if ur gonna come visit make sure u do both Ann Lister and Brontë Sisters and stay couple nights as the area is so beautiful
🌈🎩 fabulous song and the drama is just bloody brilliant .... Suranne and Sophie have touched my soul , so beautifully portrayed ... great song girls ... good luck on your new travels x
The piano score in this is so simple and beautiful, dramatic, heart wrenching. To hear it start up at the end of certain episodes, my heart was in my mouth. Your song suited the series so completely, almost as if made for it. Your song was so prescient! I'm in love with the whole thing. Well done, ladies. :)
…..I stumbled across this series surfing the net ….and I simply must tell you …. It’s fabulous, brilliant…. Thought provoking…. Entertaining….. at times , I found myself howling like an idiot. I love this show. By the way , I’m 66 years old male, and Gay, but not proud if it…. But when I watch this show, and see how this character could care less , it reminds me of myself…. It’s also a good thing that I’m 6’ 7” tall….. it helps a bit . I was born and raised in the ghetto and I hope I’ve lost my ghetto mentality…. But if provoked, I’m happy to say that it kicks back in very nicely…..LOL… methinks I’ve revealed and told to much …. I don’t care… I love this show!!!
Awesomeness! Great song! I hope to hear more from O'hooley & Tidow here in the USA. Love Anne Lister & Ann Walker. Love Suranne Jones & Sophie Rundle too!
The beautiful voices, the words, the tune...it's such a good song. I'm addicted! And one of the most compelling theme songs to a drama series; I usually want to forward through the openings, but this song leaves me wanting more whenever the show begins.
So tonight is the last episode of the current series (I'm sure it's been commissioned for another series). Meanwhile I predict: Sally Wainwright BAFTA for original screenplay, Suranne Jones BAFTA for leading actress, Sophie Rundle BAFTA for best supporting actress, O'Hooley & Tidow BAFTA for best theme tune. Glorious series. I've loved every second and watched each episode at least twice. I've done that once before with Fleabag and we all know how fantastic that was
1st time ive come across and i really like this song from new T.v series. I hadn't heard of Anne Lister either, she was a fascinating character, ive checked out so more music from these 2 and i really like them as i do like folk music
I watched the first episode twice! This is going to be a great series and what great song to accompany it. I wouldn't be at all surprised that Ann Lister knew she was called Gentleman Jack - and relished that moniker!
The cypher used in her diaries was deciphered by the last inhabitant of Shibden Hall, John Lister (1847-1933) and a friend of his, Arthur Burrell, two closeted gay men. When the content of the secret passages was revealed, Burrell advised John Lister to burn all the diaries. Lister did not take this advice, but instead continued to hide Anne Lister's diaries behind a panel at Shibden Hall.

Can’t wait for the next series . Hope Suranne gets an award for her part as Anne
Iister.
Unfortunately for Suranne, Glenda Jackson popped up in TV-land after a 27 year absence. Glenda won BAFTA best TV actress. Bad timing.
I agree 👍
Once you hear it ..it stays with you
Beautiful, I can almost see Anne dancing in the corner whilst casting a roving eye across the audience at the handsome ladies 😏great song, great series and great Suranne at a beautiful portrayal 💙💜💙
Suranne Jones never puts a foot wrong. She's an amazing actor

The recorded version uses auto tune, too, that's the greatest irony

I really like this duo, they've written some great songs. I'd love to see them live.
I love this song and I love the show!
Great job ladies, loved the theme from the BBC drama. Glad to have found you. 🌟
theonlycontessa, the song predates the TV show by about a decade! The show used the existing song!
Dorothy Young if you’re ever performing in London, I’ll come and see you.
Dorothy Young apologies, if you’re not one of the musicians!
Awesomeness! Great song! I hope to hear more from O'hooley & Tidow here in the USA.

My wife and I sing this together at the end of every episode. Anne Lister might have been the most extraordinary person living in England in 1830.

Behind her back she's Gentleman Jack
A Yorkshire lady of reknown
Ever so fine
Won't toe the line
Speak her name, gentlemen frown
At Shibden Hall she had them all
The fairer sex fell under her spell
Dapper and bright
She held them tight
Handsome Anne seduced them well
Gentleman Jack
Oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back you're under attack
The husbands are coming
You'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass
No-one likes a Jack-the-lass
The code is cracked
Your bags are packed
The knives are out for Gentleman Jack
Proud and stout
And full of clout
She played the fellas at their game
Sharp of mind
She's one of a kind
Devilish ways the men couldn't tame
Hidden away
Revealed today
Loaded words in the diaries found
Wants exposed in a baffling code
Lusty letters all leather bound
Gentleman Jack
Oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back you're under attack
The husbands are coming
You'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass
No-one likes a Jack-the-lass
The code is cracked
Your bags are packed
The knives are out for Gentleman Jack
Behind her back she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Behind her back she's Gentleman Jack
She's Gentleman Jack behind her back
Gentleman Jack
Oh Gentleman Jack
Watch your back you're under attack
The husbands are coming
You'd better start running
For nobody likes a Jack-the-lass
Jack-the-lass
