The team now in Winnipeg were the second team from Atlanta (and they want to try another franchise (what a joke)), it was the Flames who moved to Calgary and kept the name and changed the logo from a flaming A to a flaming C. The second incarnation in Atlanta were the Thrashers from 1999-2011 and that team had to relocate to Winnipeg and got rebranded as the Jets, and they changed the Jets logo to the current one rather than go back to the WHA Winnipeg Jets logo when the team joined the NHL in 1979 when the WHA folded, and four franchises moved to the NHL: The Quebec Nordiques (who ended up relocating to Colorado as the Avelanche), the Hartford Whalers, who moved to Carolina and became the Hurricanes in 1997, and the Edmonton Oilers who still remain in Edmonton and are still called the Oilers. So, the Coyotes were not a young team. There were a transferred franchise to another city.

I am an LA Kings fan myself. However, I always considered myself a fan of this team also: they were my second favorite team. During the 2012 Stanley Cup Run, had the Coyotes beaten the Kings, I would have thrown my support behind this team as Shane Doan was my favorite player during this period. I will always miss the howling during the games in Arizona, it made for an exciting experience that was only available at the Coyotes games. With great sadness, I will miss them. P.S. One question still bothers me: Why did the Coyotes feel that they needed a new arena? The LA and Denver teams have shared the same arenas to this day.
I lived in Arizona for 6 years, and there’s definitely a market for hockey. The fans are there. They just need some competent in the front office and in management. I went to 8 games between 2011 and 2017 and they were always a blast
For some reason the howling sound they play in the arena made it even more emotional for me... Because even though they've always played it, this time the Coyote sounded like it was howling out of sorrow or loneliness :( ... Like it was lost and alone in the desert...

Ranger here too, imagine losing the rangers for a min? I'll go crazy. I like the Giants the Yankees, the knicks, but i don't watch them like that. My heart and soul is with the rangers. When they win or lose i feel every bit of it. So this is a good year, since late November i been telling my friends & family I believe the rangers are finally going to win the Stanley cup this year.

Flames fan here despite all the shots the hockey community take at Arizona it was people like you I thought about last night. We were on the brink here for a while back around 2000 and I don’t know what I’d do without them. We used to have a triple A baseball team in Calgary and I cried like a baby when they left. I’ve been there. Tried following them afterwards but it wasn’t the same, they weren’t my boys anymore. But keep that jersey handy, there’s always hope ❤

I know it's not the players fault, there's still an inclination to root for the team because of them, but behind the players is the management that ought to be rooted against. Can't separate the two.

As a Kings fan, I always saw the Arizona Coyotes as worthy adversaries. The Kings faced them a couple of times during the playoffs and they were indeed a tough team and the fans were truly united everytime we had to face them at thier place in the playoffs. As someone that went to a ton of Coyotes games, Avs games were some of the most fun. I remember the Detroit/Ducks/Avs/Sharks games in the 2010s back when we were all pretty decent and it was always a blast. Good luck in the playoffs, dude.

They needed to be quite literally _extricated_from its bumbling owner, and I know that Bettman wants to add another team in Arizona under new leadership and without the bad reputation (not to mention credit rating). But if there's one thing for sure about all this, Bettman proved one thing: Hockey CAN girl in the desert. Seeing the fans come out to say goodbye is one big sign, but perhaps the biggest of all is Austin Matthews, one of the greatest players in recent history. And he's only here because of the Coyotes. I'm really happy you got a new team in Seattle last! I really like the Kraken. I'm not too worried right now because it took 6 years for the Knights to win. It may take a bit longer, but I doubt it's going to be as long as some people think it is.

To follow up on myself, the fact this can happen is just insane to me as an Englishman/European. To just lose your team to another city, i’m heartbroken and i’m not nearly the Yotes no 1 fan. My feelings go out to every Yotes fan in AZ, i really hope the clause will be triggered and we get our team back!

@@jamessimpson4160 well to be fair, if this happened to a team in the north east, there would absolutely be riots in the streets, a lot of this goes along with the whole “does hockey belong in the desert” thing. Because as you say, if this were the Penguins, the Bruins, the Leafs, the city would be on fire as I type this. I think the NHL overall has done a great job to grow the game beyond the confines of Canada and the northeast US, Florida had a rough start with both of their teams, but the owners never gave up and invested into the teams, and now they have a large and dedicated fanbase. Phoenix never stood a chance, the owner never invested in the team and didn’t expose new fans to a good experience. I think if the owner actually put effort into the team, and got the arena deals, I think Phoenix would have taken to hockey like any other big city.
My first NHL game was Blues v Coyotes... Yotes won, there was a fight between goalies... it was amazing... great memories, sad to see them leave the Valley

Coming from a Hurricanes fan, this reminds me so much of when the Whalers left Hartford in 1997. Alot of heartbreak and emotion among the fans who supported the team. Arizona deserves to have a NHL team.
With all the family that I have in CT, I probably would have become a Whalers fan. I was 10 when they left. Growing up in NY, I got to see the Rangers final game at the Civic Center in 97 on the Whalers telecast (happened to be in the area that weekend) with Forslund calling the game.
Was at the final game in Hartford. I was 12. I still have the final homestand program and a sealed team photo. I remember the energy in the building and nobody wanting to leave.
Man, a lot of people forget that Wayne Gretzky was one of the first owners of the Pheonix Coyotes and then coach for a number of years. I remember how much excitement and promise I had for this team, but I guess not everything goes your way. I watched the Coyotes play in Nashville years ago when Gretzky was one of the coaches and he came out after the game and signed autographs. He signed my game program. One of my most memorable moments as a hockey fan!

I'm an Avs die hard, but my friend and brother in arms is a yotes fan. Arizona is the only opposing team NHL arena I've ever attended (not mullet) and I had an absolute blast even with my avs getting shut out that night. The atmosphere was amazing and was only overshadowed by how kind, welcoming, and fun the home team fans were, I genuinely feel for every single Arizona fan.
As a Red Wings fan at birth, the Coyotes were the team I CHOSE to be a fan of. Since 2005 when I had enough brainpower to like something, I went Coyotes. I watched tonights game from Michigan and from the last 1 minute 30 seconds until the end of the broadcast, it was water works. I'm 23 now and have been a Yotes fan by choice since I was about 5. Will always love the Coyotes and I will never forget disobeying my parents bedtimes to watch the 2012 playoff run with Vrbata as my favourite player. Thank you Coyotes, and I pray that one day you'll be back.
Another wings fan here. Didnt start to pay attention to the yotes till I got back into hockey a couple years ago. This really sucks. The NHL is so bad at marketing this sport. I'm sure they are some what to blame

I'm a Rangers fan first but I was born in Arizona so I've always had a place for the Coyotes as well. I feel for the fans. Losing your team has to suck. Sorry to see them go but hoping they find success in the new location. Hoping they can manage to get a new team in the desert again someday.
I feel terrible for the org. and fans. I lost my North Stars in 93 and even though MN got another franchise within a decade later I still miss my original team I grew up with. Good Luck you guys and I mean that.
Even if you aren’t a fan of the team you just feel for all these players, fans, management, arena workers, etc. this is THEIR team and they all deserve to forever be a fan of the coyotes a franchise they continued to support even though all the downs. As a kings fan just know coyote fans that you guys will always have support from us fans! Sucks to see your team move but hopefully those memories last a lifetime!
Thank you for mentioning the arena workers! They're low level compared to the players and management for example, but they're still important and as someone who is an Arena worker for the Abbotsford Canucks I couldn't imagine if my team were to just leave and relocate. Thankfully I'd still have a job as the venue is also used for concerts, but still, I can only imagine how much this sucks for all of them! At least the players still have a job (they just have to move, and I don't doubt they'll be compensated for the move by the team owners) but it sucks for all involved and the fans too, gonna suck going from having a team in your town, to not having one in their town
@@MsDesignDiva The one bright spot to that is Mullett Arena isn't going anywhere, they still have Arizona State college hockey there, maybe some other events, too. But definitely is one thing that's always overlooked is how this affects the people who work in the arena, since that's one less event for them to do. There still could be concerts or other things held there, but a team like this is guaranteed so many home games a year that you get to work.
You remember that 2012 semifinal Yotes vs Kings dude? That was wild. One of my favorite Coyotes memories was making it that far in the playoffs even if we ended up losing to you all.
Can't help but feel like this franchise has been cursed. As a Winnipegger, I feel your pain. Kinda wish we'd been given the same support and as many chances as the Yotes fans got but I understand it's a totally different world we're living in now. Our city was emotionally destroyed for an embarrassingly long time after we lost them. I remember as a 14 year old kid, contributing 100 dollars to the eventual 13mill we collectively raised in a few short days in a last ditch effort that effectively got us one final season (and prevented the team from going to Minnesota). Thanks for taking good care of them, and for bringing the NHL snipers like Matthews. The Coyotes will be missed.
Scum have taken my only hockey team away from me. I’ll always have memories of Keller, Doan, Hanzel, Yandle, Vrbata, Kuemper, Smith and Cooley. But now now I’ll sit and wait and hope to see another team take it’s place in the desert. It won’t be able to fill the hole left by this team being taken away though…

From an Islanders fan, a team that is all too familiar with the uncertainty of where they're going to play the next season (The Nassau Coliseum debacle still stings as that arena now sits barely used), I say thank you Arizona for supporting the Coyotes. At the time, I thought that bringing a hockey team to a desert state was a risk, but it turned into one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports. I only started watching the NHL about three years ago. I’m a Sabers fan, but I always had a soft spot for the Coyotes and was rooting for them to do well. A gritty team of underdogs who could beat the best teams in the league on any given night. Hopefully Arizona gets another team in the future and we can all start howling again.

@@ryans413 That was part of the Deal with the Owner and Bettman. Arizona has the rights to the name Coyotes for the next 5 years as they will welcome Arizona back if they have a stadium/Arena ready to go by then. So they can come back as the Coyotes.

Lifelong Flyers fan living in Phoenix. Loved going to Coyotes games growing up even though travelling to the West Side was always a painful venture. I am gonna miss watching them on TV and am hoping that Arizona gets another chance in the NHL in the future.

Yotes fan from Australia, been a fan since 97 and watched them play down here against the Kings. When they won the first game on aussie soil that i could see in the flesh, i honestly had a few tears. During the 2012 Stanley Cup Run, had the Coyotes beaten the Kings, I would have thrown my support behind this team as Shane Doan was my favorite player during this period. I will always miss the howling during the games in Arizona, it made for an exciting experience that was only available at the Coyotes games. With great sadness, I will miss them.
P.S. One question still bothers me: Why did the Coyotes feel that they needed a new arena? The LA and Denver teams have shared the same arenas to this day.
I lived in Arizona for 6 years, and there’s definitely a market for hockey. The fans are there. They just need some competent in the front office and in management. I went to 8 games between 2011 and 2017 and they were always a blast
For some reason the howling sound they play in the arena made it even more emotional for me... Because even though they've always played it, this time the Coyote sounded like it was howling out of sorrow or loneliness :( ... Like it was lost and alone in the desert...

When they win or lose i feel every bit of it. So this is a good year, since late November i been telling my friends & family I believe the rangers are finally going to win the Stanley cup this year.

Flames fan here despite all the shots the hockey community take at Arizona it was people like you I thought about last night. We were on the brink here for a while back around 2000 and I don’t know what I’d do without them. We used to have a triple A baseball team in Calgary and I cried like a baby when they left. I’ve been there. Tried following them afterwards but it wasn’t the same, they weren’t my boys anymore. But keep that jersey handy, there’s always hope ❤

As a Kings fan, I always saw the Arizona Coyotes as worthy adversaries. The Kings faced them a couple of times during the playoffs and they were indeed a tough team and the fans were truly united everytime we had to face them at thier place in the playoffs. As someone that went to a ton of Coyotes games, Avs games were some of the most fun. I remember the Detroit/Ducks/Avs/Sharks games in the 2010s back when we were all pretty decent and it was always a blast. Good luck in the playoffs, dude.

As a Seattle fan, we saw what the greed of owners did to the Sonics and understand and sympathize with you all in Arizona.

They needed to be quite literally _extricated_from its bumbling owner, and I know that Bettman wants to add another team in Arizona under new leadership and without the bad reputation (not to mention credit rating).
But if there's one thing for sure about all this, Bettman proved one thing: Hockey CAN girl in the desert. Seeing the fans come out to say goodbye is one big sign, but perhaps the biggest of all is Austin Matthews, one of the greatest players in recent history. And he's only here because of the Coyotes.

To follow up on myself, the fact this can happen is just insane to me as an Englishman/European. To just lose your team to another city, i’m heartbroken and i’m not nearly the Yotes no 1 fan. My feelings go out to every Yotes fan in AZ, i really hope the clause will be triggered and we get our team back!

@@jamessimpson4160 well to be fair, if this happened to a team in the north east, there would absolutely be riots in the streets, a lot of this goes along with the whole “does hockey belong in the desert” thing. Because as you say, if this were the Penguins, the Bruins, the Leafs, the city would be on fire as I type this.
I think the NHL overall has done a great job to grow the game beyond the confines of Canada and the northeast US, Florida had a rough start with both of their teams, but the owners never gave up and invested into the teams, and now they have a large and dedicated fanbase.
Phoenix never stood a chance, the owner never invested in the team and didn’t expose new fans to a good experience. I think if the owner actually put effort into the team, and got the arena deals, I think Phoenix would have taken to hockey like any other big city.

Coming from a Hurricanes fan, this reminds me so much of when the Whalers left Hartford in 1997. Alot of heartbreak and emotion among the fans who supported the team. Arizona deserves to have a NHL team.
With all the family that I have in CT, I probably would have become a Whalers fan. I was 10 when they left. Growing up in NY, I got to see the Rangers final game at the Civic Center in 97 on the Whalers telecast (happened to be in the area that weekend) with Forslund calling the game.
Was at the final game in Hartford. I was 12. I still have the final homestand program and a sealed team photo. I remember the energy in the building and nobody wanting to leave.

Man, a lot of people forget that Wayne Gretzky was one of the first owners of the Pheonix Coyotes and then coach for a number of years. I remember how much excitement and promise I had for this team, but I guess not everything goes your way. Coyotes were an important part of my childhood and life, and I will miss them dearly in the desert.

Not with the kind of city government and funding issues. It was horrible place for an arena and not well thought out from the beginning. It is a really sad story.
I'm an Avs die hard, but my friend and brother in arms is a yotes fan. Arizona is the only opposing team NHL arena I've ever attended (not mullet) and I had an absolute blast even with my avs getting shut out that night. The atmosphere was amazing and was only overshadowed by how kind, welcoming, and fun the home team fans were, I genuinely feel for every single Arizona fan.

As a Red Wings fan at birth, the Coyotes were the team I CHOSE to be a fan of. Since 2005 when I had enough brainpower to like something, I went Coyotes. I watched tonights game from Michigan and from the last 1 minute 30 seconds until the end of the broadcast, it was water works. I'm 23 now and have been a Yotes fan by choice since I was about 5. Will always love the Coyotes and I will never forget disobeying my parents bedtimes to watch the 2012 playoff run with Vrbata as my favourite player. Thank you Coyotes, and I pray that one day you'll be back.

Thank you for mentioning the arena workers! They're low level compared to the players and management for example, but they're still important and as someone who is an Arena worker for the Abbotsford Canucks I couldn't imagine if my team were to just leave and relocate. Thankfully I'd still have a job as the venue is also used for concerts, but still, I can only imagine how much this sucks for all of them! At least the players still have a job (they just have to move, and I don't doubt they'll be compensated for the move by the team owners) but it sucks for all involved and the fans too, gonna suck going from having a team in your town, to not having one in their town
@@MsDesignDiva The one bright spot to that is Mullett Arena isn't going anywhere, they still have Arizona State college hockey there, maybe some other events, too. But definitely is one thing that's always overlooked is how this affects the people who work in the arena, since that's one less event for them to do. There still could be concerts or other things held there, but a team like this is guaranteed so many home games a year that you get to work.
You remember that 2012 semifinal Yotes vs Kings dude? That was wild. One of my favorite Coyotes memories was making it that far in the playoffs even if we ended up losing to you all.

Can't help but feel like this franchise has been cursed. As a Winnipegger, I feel your pain. Kinda wish we'd been given the same support and as many chances as the Yotes fans got but I understand it's a totally different world we're living in now. Our city was emotionally destroyed for an embarrassingly long time after we lost them. I remember as a 14 year old kid, contributing 100 dollars to the eventual 13mill we collectively raised in a few short days in a last ditch effort that effectively got us one final season (and prevented the team from going to Minnesota).
Thanks for taking good care of them, and for bringing the NHL snipers like Matthews. The Coyotes will be missed.

From an Islanders fan, a team that is all too familiar with the uncertainty of where they're going to play the next season (The Nassau Coliseum debacle still stings as that arena now sits barely used), I say thank you Arizona for supporting the Coyotes. At the time, I thought that bringing a hockey team to a desert state was a risk, but it turned into one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports. A shame that they couldn't get a new home there. I really feel for those fans, it's so sad. Good luck in Utah, Coyotes!

I only started watching the NHL about three years ago. I’m a Sabers fan, but I always had a soft spot for the Coyotes and was rooting for them to do well. A gritty team of underdogs who could beat the best teams in the league on any given night. Hopefully Arizona gets another team in the future and we can all start howling again.

@@ryans413 That was part of the Deal with the Owner and Bettman. Arizona has the rights to the name Coyotes for the next 5 years as they will welcome Arizona back if they have a stadium/Arena ready to go by then. So they can come back as the Coyotes.

Lifelong Flyers fan living in Phoenix. Loved going to Coyotes games growing up even though travelling to the West Side was always a painful venture. I am gonna miss watching them on TV and am hoping that Arizona gets another chance in the NHL in the future.

@@03focussvt943 Hope you know that people who moved to Phoenix from out of state in the late 90s/early 00s are the only reason people know Phoenix as a little more than a hole in the wall you pass through to go to California. Being a 3rd generation Philly fan those teams will always come 1st, I always rooted for the Coyotes unless they were playing the Flyers. P.s. The most popular Phoenix sports team is probably the 30th most followed team in Phoenix

Yotes fan from Australia, been a fan since 97 and watched them play down here against the Kings.
When they won the first game on aussie soil that i could see in the flesh, i honestly had a few tears.
It hurts to see this done, but i honestly feel more for the players especially the long term ones.

I have been a Coyotes fan from Pennsylvania for the past eight years and would go watch them play the Flyers in Philadelphia every chance I could get. Love my Coyotes and I'm going to miss them so much❤️❤️

Giving me goosebumps as I watch this. Hate this for the fans and all the people involved making the game happen. Most now without a job. LOTS of people losing out tonight. Thank you for the memories and thank you for bringing/making hockey in the desert REAL!!!!

Despite everything that happened since the last couple of years and how dreadful it was for the team in this situation, from getting kicked out of Glendale to what we see today (and as someone who also wants a team in Quebec really bad), I'm saddened to see this. Lots of sympathy for AZ fans.
