I mean I've never had super long hair as a dude but I did used to have that almost Justin Bieber hair from like 2012, and fortunately I have dense hair that curls a little as it gets longer naturally so I didnt have to do all that much, but brushing it kept it super clear of any potential issues and I feel like it also made it have more volume and was softer to the touch. Basically just gotta brush it once or twice a day all the way through and you're good to go (I also asked my sister and she said the same).

Had long hair for a few years myself when I was a teenager, I actually started growing it out when I was 12 I think. Then I let it grow till I was 18, after that I made it into dreadlocks which I finally got rid of when I turned 20. xD I was even hesitating just going to the hair stylist. xD Never ever did I let someone else touch it, not my siblings, not my girlfriend and not my parents. :P
In retrospect this all sounds like some kind of insecurity, and after I cut the dreads off I've never let my hair grow out again. :)
