  • Although levels may not have been at its highest, I am stoked that these guys decided to still make the Ldub race happen. The levels may have been low, but it's still such a fun race, and the lower levels makes it super challenging to keep it smooth. So many rocks to miss, moves to hit, and tricky lines that you can't get lazy with over the 16 minutes. It might have been a smaller year, but it was great racing with everyone again, and can't wait for the rest of the season!

I was amazed at how you kept your bow straight ahead all the time. A true sign of a winner. I'm worn out just watching your race video! Thanks for sharing the real thing with us regs.

God this looks so fun. My fam goes on way milder rapids in longer kayaks and I love it, but the way you zig zag around the rocks, making all those intuitive calculations on how to confront a boulder in the next few seconds in real time, it's impressive.

I can't believe how strong and well conditioned your shoulders are !
I did dragonboat for a 4 seasons and the longest races I would do (with 19 other paddlers) was a 2 km and it would take 8 -10 minutes and it was bruuuutal, I hated them so much haha, and you just paddled hard for 15 minutes and didn't seem phased 👌
World class man ! World class

Just watched the whole vid - would be really cool to see a commentary afterwards where you go through your mindset on each part of the river. I was trying to get in your head on your lines but I have no skill to speak about. Thanks!

Dude, your paddle strokes are like brush strokes on a canvas, much as if you have memorized the pattern. I am guessing you have run this route many times before. You make this stuff look way to easy. Still, I understand and respect how good you are and enjoy watching the epic scenery of the rivers you run. As always, great work!

  • @Chompchompyerded
    @Chompchompyerded Před 3 lety +3

Ladies and Gentlemen, you have just received a master class in how to run a river, right down to how to say "oops" when you ever so slightly mess up and don't think you can pass it off as planned. Note how he leads into the word "oops" with a little "heh" just before. It's absolutely symphonic in it's placement and timing. In fact, this run is more art than sport. In fact, the mess-up could almost be considered a Jackson Pollock moment. Let me try to get an interview with the the man, the legend, and see if he will answer a few questions for us.
Mr. Jackson, if it's not too private a question, may I ask, how old were you when you learned to read? Did you start to read water before you started to kayak, or has it been more of a continual development over the course of your career?
You seem so natural in a kayak. Can you describe to your fans what it was like being born in a kayak? Were your parents both kayaks? (not kayakers, kayaks). Forget that last question. The way you are one with the boat makes you seem part of the boat, whereas you really just zen the boat.
Do you have as much fun kayaking as you seem to have in your videos? Because if you do, I think we need to start looking into the legal aspects of kayaking. Usually things that are that stimulating are either illegal, or not good for you.
If you were kayaking the Rio Claro and saw an unopened bottle of beer on the bottom, would you bail and get it, or would you think, "Fuck it. I can get a beer in town, but I can't get the Rio Claro in town"?
If God descended from on high and told you that day after tomorrow you will die, but tomorrow you can spend your day kayaking any river you choose, what river would that be? You can choose a river in which there is a high likelihood of death, and thereby die kayaking if you prefer. The God of Kayaking won't deduct points for dying a day early if it's done kayaking.
This next question goes right to the heart of what it is to be a kayaker. Have you ever felt excited at the prospect of getting on a big rubber raft in the middle of a lake on an absolutely becalmed day on which there was absolutely no beer or food?
Can you enlighten your audience with a discussion about why all kayakers homes and motor homes, vans, campers, cars, etc always tend toward entropy?
What river left you with the most fear? Could it have instilled more fear into you if there had have been phalanx of six Kodiak grizzly bears in the water in front of a gauntlet of crocodiles?
Can I have your credit card number and social security number?
    Why not?
For our older viewers, how do today's kayakers do a propeller since there's always a go pro on their helmets?
In your opinion, would it have sucked to have been born in the mid-1940's and spent your entire kayaking career without a Go Pro, or would it be totally awesome because every descent of most big rivers is likely to be an all-time first descent by anybody in a kayak?
What's the difference between a duck?
If I were 60 years younger, would you let make your babies?
What do you mean "what kind of question is that"?
Yeh yeh yeh, forget I said anything.
This Q & A is quickly devolving. Let's call it quits for now, and I'll edit out the last part.

@@TheJellybean2319 It is? Then I have failed at what I hoped to do. Quite simply I intended to say what an amazing run it was, while also introducing a little levity into it. Most of it, beyond the first paragraph is not meant to be taken seriously. In the first paragraph I described what I saw in terms I know best; art and music. Well, I am also well acquainted with nature, and therefore there is much which goes unsaid because anyone who is that good a kayaker/athlete, knows it implicitly on some level.
I apologize. Perhaps that first paragraph went too deep, and/or outside the boundaries of the topic. The rest was meant to be tongue in cheek silliness. If it came off as creepy, perhaps I should delete it, since it was not at all my intent.
