The big fish wanted to stay in a small pond and used his friend and the Lakers to get a raise to stay there.
Nick was 100% right. The Lakers front office continues to be a disgrace
How, they offered, he declined simple as that
@@terrelmcdonald24They lowballed.
Totally low balled
he’s spot on with a lot of stuff including thid
They can’t pay top dollar they don’t have the money for it.
Hurley was like "nah im good" 😂😂😂
Kinda insulting they offered him less than uk that's craazy
6/85 they would have been able to get him.. 6/70 nah I'm good.
Nobody wants to babysit Egos and become LeBron's Yes People !!
California taxes would’ve took almost half that money
And hed probably have drug addicts in tents right outside his front door.
“Picking our coach via spotify”😂💀
As a Lakers fan, I don't blame Hurley for not coming.
If the lakers really wanted him they would have offered 8 years $120 million. Hurley would have to coach 20 years at UConn to make that money. Even if he were to get fired from the lakers after only 2 years he would get to sit home and enjoy time with family and collect 100 mil for free! No way he would have said no to that. I would be happy to be fired and get paid generational wealth not to work. Don’t we all?
Smart move by hurley
Why go up the league to manage the egos of multimillionaires when you can be a in charge completely of a bunch of college kids -- with less practices, less travel, less games and less pressure...easy decision.
@@AinttrippinYou mean no players union involved.

When the lakers lose it’ll be on Dan. And he’ll be fired in 2 years.
Haha, 🗣️💯
It don’t matter what happens they will blame LeBron for everything. People are saying he turned down the job because LeBron.
@@stephenclardy5820 he’s smart then
Facts
@@stephenclardy5820Stop arguing with emotional Lebron haters it actually lowers your IQ. Everything is his fault and if they happen to win a championship it doesn't count for this reason or that reason. They forget that nobody wanted to come to Lakers before LeBron did and it's not hard to see why with the way this fanbase acts. Other NBA players can see this and will steer clear or just go to Clippers.
Smart call by Hurley!
Firing a coach in their 2nd year is bad taste.
7 or 8 for 14 years is wow!!!
Hurley would be taxed half of that salary just for living in California, and probably taxed more for the LA city tax.
He would. He will be making more at UConn after he renegotiates his contract.
Connecticut taxes are just as high
U do know Connecticut state taxes are higher.
CT taxes are a nightmare but CA taxes are at another level
@@mobrocket California is closer 14%
Connecticut is closer to 7%
If you Google it there is plenty of sites that will tell you the same.
Props to Nick. He called this perfectly.
Don’t give that low life praise
of course he did. Lebron probably told him to say what he did with all the insiders info.
That contract offer by the Lakers showed me that they were not SERIOUS enough, They didn't even offer him 15 plus to offset those California taxes. Had that offer been 5-6 yrs 100 mil Dan IS NEVER TURNING THAT DOWN.
He would have been one of the 6 highest paid coaches with the deal he got offered but that doesn’t include the context of him uprooting his family across the country to perform with heavy criticism in a high cost of living area. I wouldn’t have Taken the deal either
He would have had the 6th highest contract among NBA coaches you mean? California taxes cut his contract in almost half so he would have well below the top 20 in actual pay.
Top 10*** not 20 lmao
@@gregjross852other states charge taxes too, so if you’re going to factor in state taxes when looking where he would rank, factor in all of them
@@gregjross852No one knows what the final offer was. The word is there were other incentives built in that brought it up to 100Ms. I don’t think it had anything to do with money. Lakers are one the most challenging franchises in American sports. Lights might’ve been too bright. The calculation might’ve been he didn’t need that pressure in his life.
Dan Hurley was not going to coach Lebron, Lebron was going to coach Hurley 😂
That last take was spot on. If a Coach says I'll think about it to what is supposingly the best franchise in sports, that's a no in my book.
Am I the only one that doesn’t think 11.6m/year for a college coach with no NBA experience is a lowball?
I also don’t think he would’ve left UCONN for any offer. He wanted to stay and go for a historical 3peat. Nothing was taking him from that. And if he doesn’t 3peat this year, he knows he’ll still be a sought after coach by the NBA
Lakers management is toxic!
Yes you are cause you don’t pay attention. 20 years ago they offered 8 million to coach k.
@@sniperpaintcorrection6790 this guy is not coach K….

It’s not the money, it’s the roster.
Does NOBODY know that Hurley turned down probably the same amount of money from Kentucky, who are basically the Lakers of college basketball? Of course he is turning down Lakers, too. When he turned down Kentucky, he said money is not a factor.
Money isn’t a factor until it is. 11M a year is not enough to get him to think about it for any length of time.
@@jaden5843also a massive nba contract will always be available for him so it makes little sense for him to coach a team being lead by a 40 yr old diva
Comparing the Lakers to a college team is hilarious. Lakers are a top 5 most valuable franchise in the world lol
@jaden5843 it's actually 6M with California taxes, which makes it even funnier

8:05 Ha ha, I love that swipe at JJ Redick and that crew guy in the background laughing. I love Nick.
That laugh was GOLD
No one wants to coach the Lakers and respond directly to LeBron James. Besides, the Lakers need to rebuild (that's why Hurley was offered a 6-year contract) but they have no picks left. It's not a good option right now.
Absolutely 💯
I love the Casino and Godfather quote
Dan Hurley was never interested in leaving his collegians for a lebron james emotional roller coaster 🎢
Why did he turn down Kentucky?
Do you really think LeBron is the issue…. With incompetently cheap Jeannie Buss, lying Rob, the grossly inept Rambis family, a poorly constructed roster, not good draft picks….. lol
So he created a massive distraction for the university and flew his entire family to LA in the midst of training camp. No interest at all.
@@madea1012he's the main issue if u can't see that than u either delusional or ignorant to the facts
Proving nicks point. You're already saying it's lebrons fault, not the fact that they lowballed to just say "they tried". Now they can get jj freaking reddick, and when that fails, you'll be the first to say lebron sucks
Why would anyone wants to coach an old and brittle Lakers team?
Lakers really aren’t an old team other than Bron
Lebron gets every coach fired. That’s the problem
LeBron didn't get Ham fired, AD did.

I agree with Nick, what was Rob Pelinka thinking? It's like the 2012 firing of Mike Brown all over again, no experienced coach is excited about this job because all the BS that comes with the job and the superstar has passed his prime.
Yet they have 2 All NBA players? Very few teams can say that.

Every coach that has coached lebron has been a scapegoat and most of them have been fired even if they had won a title. Even if they didnt get fired it wasnt for lack of trying on lebron's part. No one wants to coach him.

Looking more and more like a Classic One, Nick.
Considering the tax rate in California, 6 years, 70M is cheap for a coach of his caliber.
Adam Driver always knows his stuff
As a Lakers fan I am genuinely pleased by the front office’s efforts to get Hurley. We offered to more than double his yearly salary. If that’s enough then I think a deal simply was not going to be done.
His most recent UCONN deal is 6 years for $32m. Going from that to a top 5 highest paid coach in the NBA with no pro experience is insane
