Just like my Grandma used to make! Now I absolutely must try and make this. It's been over 10 years since I tasted her sea bass. ❤ Thank you for sharing!
So happy it brings back fond memories of your grandma’s cooking. Enjoy 😊
In my opinion, this is the quintessential dish of Cantonese cuisine. Thanks for sharing!
lrnlrn love steamed fish!
I followed your instruction, it turned out perfect, it's like eating in the restaurant. In the past, the fish was either over cooked or under cooked. Thanks so much.
+T Anderson Awesome! So happy to hear that. Thank you! -Ling
The effect of ginger is positive,
The spice and remedy contains healthy essential oils,
The tuber is also rich in vitamin C and also contains magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, sodium and phosphorus.
Ginger has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
It can inhibit the multiplication of certain viruses. greetings from the crazy kitchen
I love fish, especially steamed fish because its healthy and delicious.
Good Stuff, Great Tips😃👍🏿
Having less of those ingredients (oil and sugar) doesn't make it unhealthy.. We need a little bit of those anyway. I love this recipe! Keep posting more videos.
sexy
I do my steaming wrong,.. usually I just put all the ingredients from top & bottom then steam it.. I had no idea that the fish should steam without the sauce & it should simply pour once it cook... thank u for this recipe.. now I know.
Looks great overall, just a tiny tip I want to share, try pour the soy sauce around the fish instead, you’ll definitely taste a difference , better
This was wonderfully done...thank you for this tutorial 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼
Thank you 😊
I never know I should let the fish continuing cooking by covering the dish after steaming for 10 mins. For sure I'll give it a try! Thanks Ling!
I used to cook the fish in a pot with hot water instead of steaming it. This method is way better because the seasoning and marinade is infused into the fish while cooking. Love this healthy and easy to make delicious recipe. Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
I was told about fish too, another way to make it. Thank you 😊
Steamed fish is one of my favorite recipes especially using codfish. l appreciate what I have just seen.Thanks.
thanks for posting this recipe. I've always wanted to make steamed fish. I think I'll try this out for New Year's.
Wow! This was super delicious! I couldn’t fit my 2 pound striped bass in the wok, so I baked it instead with a pan of water for 35 minutes at 425. The fam loved it! I didn’t have enough and will have to get 2 pieces of fish next time!
Good job 👏 👏
Simple and Delicious!
Thank you very much for the recipe .I also liked the elegance and clear ,simple explanation ,subscribing .
+Bom bogor Thank you so much!

Looks very good. I need to find some whole fish. All we get here is filets.
Hi Ling! Where can I buy the steam rack ? Also, I checked the wok on Amazon and it doesn't include the lid? or does it? Thanks!
Going to surprise my mom with this next month :D
Yay, Chinese New Year is coming next month 😊that will be a sweet surprise 👍
OMG! I went to our chinese new year party I eat this fish and wondering how they cook this. After 9 years the answers found. Thanks you got 1 subcriber now
Thanks for subscribing 👏
Great!. I prefer to put the steamed fish on a clean plate so I left in the steamed plate the liquid and cooked ginger and green onion. Also, I like to use more hot oil (double amount) so fresh ginger, cilantro and green onion that I place on top of cooked fish get a touch of as if they were slightly cooked.
Good point, thank you!
my mom made fish similar to this. i'll try this recipe.
Just needed some chili:) looks yummy:)
This is a Cantonese dish, normally without chili. However, you may make your own version 😊
thank you
Love your videos
+Shanty Pirgayanti Thank you!
Do you use ANY plate to put inside the steamer or it has to be a special glass? ceramics? Thanks! :)
***** I would avoid glass plate. Thanks!
you can actually just use a bamboo steamer this will make it turn out much nicer and it is not very hard to find and it is also really cheap
I love it!
Looks good. One correction, never pour the soy sauce on the fish. Just pour it gently on the sides.
nah i pour it on the fish cuz i like da flavor LOL
Why not?
Mark BestBuddy directly absorbs it, it’ll be too salty and overpower the flavour of the fish
Thank you for the recipe I tried yesterday it came out pretty good
+Winnie Edme So glad to hear that. Thank you! -Ling
Thank you... Simple & healthy.
Very Nice!
This looks good. Can't wait to make it. Yum!

Hi do you have a lobster sauce recipe for lobster stir fry or hot plate style dishes?
Sorry, currently I don’t have either recipe.
Awwww awesome:)
Stella T Thank you! -Ling
Thanks for making this video. I appreciate it!
However, let me just ask. If you are going for "healthy" food, how about a no-oil version?
Point taken. Cooking healthy or not is subjective :-) Thanks!
wupeide ipty
sorry but what can i alternate with cooking wine as i cannot consume it. please reply as soon as possible,
do we pour away those water that coming out from the fish after we steam it?
Yes. Thanks!
***** may i ask why we need to get rid of the fish's water? my mom used to tell me to pour it away but i forgot why, thank you
fancy house That fish water is good for stock, so you can reserve, however, it leaves a strong fishy taste to the dish if left in.
fancy house
it gives it a cleaner taste if you take away the water. you are replacing it with soy sauce anyway. but yes you can use it for stock for future recipes. At the same time you can keep it and your soy sauce + fish water taste more fishy. cooking is VERY versatile. just depends how you prefer to cook stuff lol
fancy house You can keep the water if you clean the fish by rubbing it with salt to get rid of the slime. I prefer keeping the water. It tastes better. Steaming the fish with ginger slices, green onion and a splash of cooking wine will get rid of the fishy taste.
hot oil at the end is ESSENTIAL!
how to make vegatable dishes
hi,

Wich souces need adde pls
What if I don’t have a steamer? How can I make this?
+R X You may use a steaming rack. Thank you!
What non alcoholic ingredient can I use instead of the cooking wine? Thanks:-)
Hi, any non alcoholic substitute for shaoxing wine?
You may skip it or try lemon juice or ginger ale based on my search online 😄
@@ChineseHealthyCook thanks 😊
if follow exactly the dosage of salt and soya bean source as the film shows, the fish must be very salty
Wilson Wong It wasn’t salty though. Please try. Thanks! -Ling
why do you have to pour the oil on the fish at the end?
is that rack a steam rack. Can someone help me?
Yes, it is.
Have anyone try this recipe?
can you use other oil besides canola oil? can you also add some spices into the oil? any suggestions? thanks!
canonguy no only canoli
I think peanut oil is better

+cynthia abogado will you marry me
Tani Shi - Marry me!!
hahaha why not learn the dishes yourself?
Forgot the sugar LOL hahahahah
need I control the time well?
Yes
are you sigle prety gurl 👼🙈😂😂
Why did u pour the gravy away? That's the best part of the steaming process 😔
+Pseudonorm It's not gravy but liquid and may taste fishy if you try. Thanks!
i agree chinesehealrhycook its lqiuid for the fish of taste its not much
You pour fish sauce on the sides, not on top of the fish.
great vid, but i wouldn't use canola oil, it is genetically modified corn. cheers!!
No need to salt the inside of the fish
fish is way over cooked. 7 Min top.
You need to get rid all the water first before pouring the oil.
You need more oil, at least a quarter of a cup.

Do you need to buy a live fish?
+Annie Chong No, it doesn't have to be. Thank you! -Ling
No need live fish
If you got frozen fish
Just detaw the fish first to room temperature and follow her instruction to steam the fish

In London this is sold everywhere, but they call it bamboo bass, because the steamed bamboo?
Bakerfield Christophee Really, bamboo bass? A nickname? 😁
No, not nickname, actual name. It was bass, like what you did on your video, with steamed bamboo as garnish, so the dish contained bamboo, young sprouts I think, my favourite garnish!
Bakerfield Christophee Ha, I wasn’t thinking property. It is the dish name, bamboo fish. Sounds yum with bamboo. Thank you! -Ling

I want to eat like a skinny chinese
+Tau Yang Haha 😆 we don’t need to be skinny but healthy. -Ling
Is it okay to make the fish in an actual steamer?
Ms. A. Pickett of course. Thanks!
Is it normal raw ginger or pickled ginger?
Raw ginger, thanks!
the soy sauce should be added to the oil together then heat it up. Raw soy sauce does not tast good. Your recipe is incorrect.
+Fred Lee You may do that but we don’t have to heat up soy sauce.
Don't cut the fish...looks like got radiation
Agttc .

Steaming is supposed to be healthy but not if you use too much oil. this is an irony I find in ALL the steamed fish recipes. they ALL use lots of oil.
+Truman1201 you don't have to follow recipe , add as much as you want (or little)
Oil in itself isn't unhealthy, especially if it's non saturated. Also, she used it sparingly for flavour. It's not like this is fish and chips fried in pork lard.
my friend's father cooks this all the time. But he just steams a fish with ginger, no oil. Simply adding soy sauce and serving. It's delicious! Always fresh fish from the market though, never frozen.
It wasn’t really a huge amount of oil. The fish will be shared between 2/3 people so per serving it’s nothing, esp if non saturated as mentioned. Enjoy!
thank you
