Saw some people comments here that he was underrated... Nooo way he was underrated!!! Back then he was pretty famous especially for his shooting ability. I remember that even in Greece when we saw someone shoot from a long distance we used to say "who he thinks he is? Ronald Koeman?" He played for top clubs, and won major trophies. He was no way underrated. He's been always considered a great player!
Here in Holland he is way underrated and everyone considers Jaap Stam the best defender. Jaap stap is just a good defender. Koeman was a great complete player who won games for you, had magnificent passing and defending skills. It's sad that the Dutch totally forgot him as player.

He wasn't a defender properly, he was a defensive midfielder. It was Cruyff who started to make him play as a sweeper in Barcelona, that Barcelona played with 2 true center backs (in fact, the 2 were more a right and a left back playing as markers which was and still is odd) and another one who was a midfielder. Cruyff vision was crazy and Koeman responded in an outstanding manner to such a tremendous challenge

Greetings from Sweden. I remember the 1988 European Football Championship final tournament in West Germany in June 1988. What a tournament! Ronald Koeman was absolutely fantastic. He must be one of the best - if not _the_ best - free kick taker ever. What an attacking defender he was... He must have had a rocket launcher in his right foot.
Koeman was sensational, but the best free kick takers are Juninho Pernambucano, who the europeans already know, and Marcelinho Carioca, a great attacking midfielder that played for Corinthians, Flamengo and Vasco in Brazil. Marcelinho Carioca was the best at swerve (i don't know how to properly write this in english).
Although Koeman is generally remembered for his ridiculous range and accuracy, he was also such a consistent all round player, dozens of incisive inch perfect passes every game.

After playing soccer at my neighborhood street With friends I decided to join my first team age at 13. I was always watching him closely and be like him the best defender.at first I was substituted for months and the chance wasn’t given me to be on the field for a while but when my time came i was on the field on the 2nd half and we were losing 2-1 . We had a corner kick and I decided to take my chance as I was one of the tallest guy in my team and see what I can do . After corner kicked As I was running,I saw the ball coming at me when i was about standing at penalty arc and I had a headshot goalie. I can never forget that moment as I was so happy and couldnt believe that I had an amazing goal.after that game the number 4 was giving me and I wasn’t substituted for two years.
